INTRODUCTION
New approach attempts to infuse subject

learning strategies.
New vision and approach for assessing
children’s progress.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES – UNDERSTANDING WHAT CHILDREN LEARN, WHAT THEY DO NOT
INTRODUCTION :
While teaching EVS it is important to
understand, its purpose , syllabus, and
how to assess it.
TEACHING PROCEDURE :
Firstly we need to
see how children
learn EVS.
Then what
problems do they
face.
Their
understanding of
the concept.
ASSESSMENT OF THEIR LEARNING:
By observing
By listening to them.
By talking to them.
By reading their
drawing and writing.
DEMERIT OF EVS:The concepts are too
abstract for children to understand at his early age.
TEACHING OF "AIR" IN THE CLASS III:
Testing previous knowledge by asking general question.
Demonstrating that air is needed for burning and is used during combustion.
Experimenting : To compare three different sizes of jars.
DEMERIT:
The classroom
activity didn’t
achieve the desired
learning despite
the best effort of
the teacher.
CONCLUSION :
Teacher found that
the concept is too
complex for their.
LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT IN EVS
Every child can learn if allowed to do so at
his / her own pace and follow.
Children learn through mistakes and error
they make.
Children at primary stage learn better and
more easily through experience, play and
different activities.
INDICATORS FOR ASSESSING
