Hi everybody! This is our lovely team, which is preparing EDISON in January 2014
First, what you have to know. How much money do you spend here?
I spend 4000 (160€) Crowns in a one month. I pay for my accommodation 2550 (102€) Crowns. The Czech Crown (“koruna” in Czech, abbreviated Kč) coins are in circulation: 1
crown, 2 crowns, 5 crowns, 10 crowns, 20 crowns and 50 crowns. The paper
money are available in: 100 crowns, 200 crowns, 500 crowns, 1.000 crowns, 2.000
crowns, 5.000 crowns. Cash machines are usually the easiest and the
cheapest way of managing money. There are lots of them located throughout
the Zlín town centre. You can also pay by credit card in most stores. Foreign
currency can be exchanged at any bank or exchange office; thought you might
check around to see which one gives the best rate.
I think you will spend something between 6.000 – 10.000 CZK(240-400€).

Your question was what is better: cook or eat outside?
Actually, when you will be in a host family, they can give you a food – we can´t
ask them. But I don´t think that they let you cook in their kitchen. It is half to
half we don´t know the situation in each family.
AIRPORT The MAIN STATION in PRAGUE The bus line AIRPORT EXPRESS (AE) connects Prague Airport with Prague Main

Buying the ticket directly from the driver. The cost is 60 CZK.
Public Transport in Zlín
Public transport in Zlín includes buses, trolleybuses and trains. To use public
transport you need a valid ticket (stamped in a machine immediately after
getting on the vehicle) or a season ticket. One-way tickets can be purchased
at many stands, in some shops or in ticket machines at stops. You can also
buy a ticket from the driver, but it is more expensive. You can buy two types
of tickets: transferable and non-transferable. Both are limited by time.
The basic non-transferable ticket for 20 minutes costs 12 CZK and the
transferable ticket costs 15 CZK for 30 minutes or 18 CZK for 50 minutes.
There is also the possibility of buying a one-week ticket which costs 180 CZK.
To get the student season ticket you need a passport size photograph(4,5cm x 3,5cm), a Student ID Card or another document to prove that you are a student (confirmation of study) and the address of your stay in Zlín.There are different types of coupons according to areas (zone A, B and zone C). Zone A is sufficient to reach all the buildings belonging to the University. You can get a month or a 3 month coupon on your student travel card.
Transport from one city to another depends on distance. When we assign which
group depends to which towns, I will send you more information about prices of
transport.
Emergency Services
In the Czech Republic there is a set of emergency telephone numbers. These

If you want try some extreme sports (like skiing, snowboarding, etc.) you need reinsurance. You can manage it in your country. It is not expensive.
One of you asked me which vaccines you need.
Czech Republic is not an exotic landscape. It is good to have vaccination against
Hepatitis A and B, if you do not have it never mind. You have to wait a half year
from first injection to second. It is not necessary.
In our country we have some routine vaccines, which are mandatory for us. Like:
Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR), Diphteria-Tetanus-Petussis, Varrialla vaccine
(Chickenpox), Polio vaccine. Again, if you don´t have it, never mind. Accommodation
First week, everybody will be in Zlin because of preparation week. It is nice, we
can better known each other ;). You can think that you will be in a hotel. It is
more expensive and we as LC cannot pay for it. If you really want to, you can pay
by your own.
At every Sunday you will go to the new host family in a new town, where you
start present on Monday till Friday. That places are near to Zlín. Do not worry if
you will have a problem.
In a host family can be a situation that you will have a room with someone else,
like a child from the family or you can sleep on a couch.
Question about weekends:
In every family will be different situation. The family can be with you on
weekend. They can show you some nice place in the town of in the neighbourhood.
If you really want go alone somewhere, you have to settle with the family. ;)
