A QUICK MESSAGE FROM ME

2014 was a giant year for us here at BREC! As well as presenting a massive selection of live entertainment throughout the year, we marked the opening of the Centre's new expansion with a month of celebrations and a fabulous festival in July. The celebrations included a Gala ‘black-tie’ opening, a sold out Community Concert, Natalie Barr as MC and a host of other amazing performers.

Now that we have two fantastic venues - our refurbished Stage One theatre and our new The Cube theatre - we are committed to presenting an even bigger and more varied selection of theatre, dance, music, comedy and other events throughout 2015.

Our Out of the Box + Into the Cube series launched in mid-2014 with numerous sold out events (my two favourite words!) and is set to continue throughout 2015. We are kicking things off in January with indie-electro trio Crooked Colours, while electric pop duo Sun City will perform at the February event. Jam jar cocktails, retro arcade games, great food and lots of fun ahead…

I invite you to read on and discover more about other amazing events coming to BREC this Summer!

Out of the Box + Into the Cube is back for 2015!

This innovative new program has put BREC back on the map for the X + Y generations across Bunbury and the South West, with sold out shows throughout 2014.

Indie-electro trio Crooked Colours will be headlining the January show, their follow-up South West performance from Groovin The Moo Bunbury in 2014. The band recently completed a national tour for their latest release Capricious, including a sell-out hometown show at The Bakery in Perth. Crooked Colours’ sound has often been compared to a combination of English indie-rock foursome Alt J and US electronic duo Crystal Castles.

DJ Sounds Legit will be spinning tunes in the Sky Bar all night long, keeping the crowd entertained as they have a whirl on our retro arcade games or challenge their mates to some ping pong.

The distinctive jangling sound of the twelve string guitar and the rich harmonies embellishing their immaculate vocals have without doubt assured The Searchers of a lasting place the history of popular music throughout the world.

From their early beginnings in the late fifties as a skiffle group formed by John McNally and a bunch of friends through to the heady days of the sixties as teenage idols, they have comfortably settled into a position well deserved by a band whose sound has influenced some of the most important artists of our generation - The Byrds, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Marshall Crenshaw and so many others. They happily acknowledge their debt to The Searchers.

The Searchers have contributed enormously to the British music industry, with record sales well in excess of 40 million.

The Searchers are returning to Australian shores for a special anniversary concert tour in 2015, performing their greatest hits live on stage.

Following sold-out shows and rave reviews across the country, the world’s boldest and cheekiest magic show The Naked Magicians is coming to Bunbury for one night only!

The show features magic, mirth and more than a touch of mayhem as these two hot and hilarious magicians say abracadabra and take magic to a whole new level.

Left without sleeves or pockets, The Naked Magicians’ saucy magic is baffling and entertaining, bringing a new meaning to “now you see it”.

This boisterous R-rated magic show strips away the top hats and capes, promising full frontal illusions. Good magicians don't need sleeves and great magicians don't need pants. This show proves just that.

ZACCARIA CONCERTS AND TOURING PRESENTS

Kasey ChambersMultiple platinum selling and Aria award-winning country artist Kasey Chambers performs all of her hits plus tracks from her new studio album Bittersweet in one very special concert event.

The music of Kasey Chambers feels like its buried in Australia's bones. On August 29 last year, the singer, songwriter and storyteller released her 10th studio album and first solo record in four years, Bittersweet. Produced by American Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, The Wallflowers, Powderfinger, The Living End) at Studios 301 in Byron Bay, Bittersweet is something of a departure for Kasey from the 'expected'.

Signifying a new phase in her exciting and expansive career, Bittersweet sees Kasey enter the

studio without her producer/ manager/brother and good luck charm Nash Chambers for the first time. Although that collaboration has sold 1.2 million albums in Australia alone, Kasey said, "I wanted to have an experience making a record that I had never had before. I wanted to challenge myself and I wanted to be excited".

At last! The sequel you’ve all been waiting for! The queens are back, with more feathers, sequins and glitter eye shadow than ever before. Dust off those lashes, put on those pumps and reach for the most fabulous frock you can find. Then join the cast in an evening of side-splitting comedy only a drag queen can get away with.

Having conquered outback Australia in the outrageous musical comedy smash hit Queens of the Outback, the queens now head for the glamour and glitz of the big city, only to find their home at The Gayhound Hotel is closing down. So after a wild night drinking the bar dry, sexy male strippers and once again ending up in the lockup, the queens decide to go their separate ways.

After not having much luck the queens join forces once again and decide to open their own club, “Drag City”.

The internationally renowned cast Simoana Luvzit, Emma Roids and Frayda Cocks sing live all your favourite hits from Madonna to Dolly Parton, Jimmy Barnes to Donna Summer. Witness stellar dance moves and a few hip grinds that will make your eyes water. WARNING! These shows include audience participation - dance shoes recommended!

For the first time in Bunbury, West Australian Ballet presents its iconic Ballet at the Quarry season.

Headlining the program is the Australian premiere of international choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Zip Zap Zoom, an energetic fusion of hip hop, ballroom, cabaret and other dance forms. La Pluie, also by Ochoa, is a captivating, fluid pas de deux set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, while the third piece, Steptext, brings the work of famed choreographer William Forsythe to West Australian Ballet for the first time.

The final piece, Hold the Fourth, by dancer and choreographer Daniel Roberts, uses a quote from George Orwell’s 1984 to describe the new work – ‘War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength’.

Zip Zap Zoom is an electrifying feast for the senses!
