DANIEL SIMPLEX ORIFICE PLATE HOLDERS -- Catalog 700
Daniel API 14.3 Simplex Orifice Plate holders are single-chamber fittings which use Universal Size orificeplates and removable sealing units. Sealing units may be the Daniel "DSC" Nitrile Dual Seal, the "TSC" TeflonSeal, the "MSC" all-metal seal or the "SNC" Snap Seal Ring combination of metal and Nitrile, each of which isinterchangeable. Body styles include Flangnek, Welding Neck, Socket Welding and Threaded. These fittingsallow you to remove or insert the orifice plate quickly and economically. Since Simplex fittings use one piecebodies, there is no spillage in liquid service, no rusted stud bolts and nuts to remove, no flanges to spread apart
and no line strain.
Operation of the Simplex is quite simple because of its few parts. The plate carrier ring is permanently attachedto the sealing bar so that the bar, ring, plate and seal unit are all removed at the same time. The only otherparts are the gasket clamping bar with its set screws and pipe plugs for taps and drain.
MATERIALSSimplex Orifice Plate Holders are made of cast carbon or alloy steels, and Types 304 and 316 stainless steels.Internal parts are trimmed in a variety of materials to suit every operating condition. When ordering, pleasespecify type of service.

SIMPLEX BODY STYLES
Simplex Plate ChangingThe Daniel Simplex Orifice Plate Holder isexpressly designed for fast, safe and easyplate inspection or change with a minimum ofline shut-down time. Only these steps arerequired:
De-pressurize and bypass or shut inthe line.
1.
Slowly loosen the clamping bar setscrews.
2.
Lightly tap the sealing bar to break thegasket seal.
3.
Slide out the clamping bar.4. Lift out the sealing bar-plate carrier ringcontaining the orifice plate and sealingunit.
5.
Remove the sealing bar gasket.6.
To resume measurement, install a newsealing bar gasket, then simply reverse theabove procedure. As the sealing bar-platecarrier ring is inserted, the index hole in thebar fits over a dowel pin in the fitting body.This indexing feature assures the operatorthat the orifice plate is fully seated andconcentric with the line bore. Replaceclamping bar and tighten set screws beforegradually repressurizing the meter tube.
Product Overview & Quality Control
QUALITY CONTROLLED MANUFACTURING
Material Selection: Daniel starts with the finest raw materials obtainable to make the best possible meter tubes.Seamless tubing from 2" to 12" is manufactured by leading steel companies according to precise specifications fromDaniel. These specifications control internal diameter, smoothness and roundness. Daniel 14" line size and largermeter tubes begin with carefully selected pipe which conforms to A.P.I. Chapter 14 Section 3 Part 2 (14.3)/A.G.A. #3.Daniel facilities permit carload storing so that proper sizes and quantities usually are on hand to rapidly complete yourorder.
Tube Preparation: Prior to fabrication, Daniel meter tubing and pipe receive surface preparation by an automatic,rotating wire-brush machine to remove mill scale and rust. If extra cleaning is required, Daniel sand-blast facilities canfinish each tube down to bare metal. Pipe then proceeds to either a cut-off lathe or automatic burn-off machine toguarantee its proper length and end bevel.
Fabrication: Daniel fabrication includes attaching the orifice fitting to the meter tube to make an integral primarymeasuring element. For welding operations, Daniel uses automatic welding machines and rotating positioners. Highlyskilled, "code qualified" welders are employed to turn out highest quality on each job. Special internal jigs and fixturesare used to insure smooth inlet and outlet surfaces without steps of offsets. All welds receive expert grinding byexperienced craftsmen.
Inspection/Testing: Daniel maintains rigid inspection methods on manufacturing of all meter tubes. Micrometerreadings are made and recorded for each tube and can be supplied on request. Customer inspectors are welcome atany time to check and verify the tolerances on each finished tube. Daniel facilities provide for special services such ashydrostatic testing and weld x-raying of tubes when required.
Packaging/Shipping: Daniel bolts together all meter tubes, when size permits, before shipment. This saves the usertime and field labor costs. Fittings are protected by heavy lumber, and the tube flanges by special-cut protectors.
Painting/Coating: The primer paint coat on Daniel meter tubes is applied by a special airless, hot-spray methodwhich assures uniform coverage. If desired, corrosion-resistant coatings can be applied at the Daniel plant.
General Features: The following are included in all Daniel Meter Tubes:
(a) Alignment -- On meter tubes, up to 300 lbs. ANSI, Daniel provides tube flanges and fitting flanges with threealignment holes and dowel pins. On 400 lbs. ANSI and higher rated meter tubes, Daniel provides extra largemale facing on fitting flanges and extra large female facing on tube flanges to insure true alignment.
(b) Connections -- One 1/2" pipe coupling and plug normally supplied on downstream tube. Additional couplingson request.
(c) End Modifications -- Meter tube ends can be beveled, flanged, threaded, or have reducers, risers, ells, etc.as needed.
(d) Fitting Styles -- "Senior" and "Junior" fittings available in flanged, "Flangnek," or welding neck body styles."Simplex" fitting available in "Flangnek," welding neck, socket-weld, or threaded style. Flanges are standardraised-face unless otherwise specified. Orifice Flange meter tubes are also available.

This catalog is a description of the Daniel Standard Meter Tube. Data is furnished on code and pressurerequirements, physical dimensions, and piping details.
Daniel Meter Tubes with all types of orifice fittings are described in detail. Tabular material herein is used forthe design or actual installations and meets all requirements of A.P.I. Chapter 14 Section 3 Part 2 (14.3)/A.G.A.#3 and ASME Fluid meters, 6th Edition. The material is based on API recommendations for FLANGE TAPpressure connections and Daniel standard meter tube lengths are based on A.P.I. Chapter 14 Section 3 Part 2(14.3)/A.G.A. #3, Figure 2-7.
Daniel Meter Tubes, incorporating orifice fittings or flanges and the orifice plate, are accurately designed andmanufactured to exacting requirements. Each tube is expertly finished to give the highest degree ofrepeatability and the lowest maintenance of any primary element.
GUARANTEEWe guarantee for a period of one year from date of shipment that all DANIEL products are free from defectiveworkmanship and material. Within this period any such products or parts will be repaired or replaced free ofcharge F.O.B. our factory, provided that such products were properly selected for the service intended, properlyinstalled, and not misused in any manner.

Heavy duty construction throughout enables the fitting to handle flows at 10,000 P.S.I.The body is made of high-strength cast carbon steel. A specially designed top closure seals off the fitting. Theorifice plate sealing unit material is teflon. An alternate metal seal is available on order.

DescriptionTYPE "T" TELEMETERING MODEL
The Daniel Type "T" Simplex Orifice Plate Holder has extra sets of meter taps for telemetering. It is made in 3"and 4" sizes, Class 300 and 600. The body style is "Flangnek" Raised Face and "Flangnek" Ring-Joint. Thebody casting allows taps positioned at 45 and 90 degrees and at line level when the fitting is installed on itsside. This provides separate taps for the buyer, the seller, and for telemetering.

Simplex Meter TubesFABRICATION--INSPECTIONClose quality-control at Daniel's plants guarantee highly accurate fabrication of Simplex Meter Tubes. Specialjigs and fixtures are used to assure precise alignment of tube and fitting so there are no steps or offsets. Allwelds are ground and micrometer readings made.
TESTING--COATINGRadiography and hydrostatic testing is available at Daniel, if desired. A special quick-drying primer coat of paintis applied as standard on Simplex Meter Tubes. Sand-blasting and corrosion-resistant coatings are available ata nominal charge.
