Principal’s Message
Bundarra Central School has had a great start to the term with the staff and students busily engaged in a wide range of teaching and learning events. It is lovely to see the students wearing their uniform with pride and being excited about school. Congratulations to Hannah Palmer whose entry “The Boab” has been awarded in the “Let’s Hang It” NERAM Art Gallery. Over seven hundred entries were submitted in the student art competition with the exhibition opening tonight. If you are in Armidale the exhibition is well worth a look. Jared Masterson is to be congratulated for his great run at the NSW CHS State Cross Country in Sydney. He placed 22nd out of over 101 competitors - a fantastic effort. Our girls touch teams and league tag teams continue to represent Bundarra Central in the knock out and gala day competitions held over the last two weeks. This coming Wednesday all students are expected to participate in our school athletic carnival which is shaping up to be a great day.
Ten excited pre-schoolers attended the first day of our Kindergarten Transition. It is a pleasure to work with Bundarra Pre-school to ensure the children get the best start possible at Bundarra central School. We are looking forward to many great years of schooling. The casting for the main characters and leads in the secondary school play “A Budget Cinderella” has occurred. Keep an eye out for our Prince Charming (ish), our independent Cinders, our trainee Fairy Godmother and Baroness Hard-up and her daughters Flora and Fauna. Primary students will be adventuring into the prehistoric era presenting ‘All Things Dinosaur’. The daytime matinee performance will be on Thursday 31st August followed by our gala Play Night on Friday 1st September which should be a night filled with laughter and joy. Congratulations to Mrs Jenny Dezius, Kimberly O’Donnell and Lindsay Groth who will be receiving awards at the Sapphire Community Education Week Awards on Wednesday night in Inverell. Their support, commitment to the community and enthusiasm is to be commended. Next week is Education Week with our assembly being held on Thursday at 11:40am. All classes K -12 have been involved in preparing items for the assembly to celebrate our school and the privilege to receive a quality education. Mrs Rebecca Langdon, Director of School Education, Barwon Network will be attending as our special guest. It would be wonderful to see everyone attend our celebratory assembly.

Secondary News
It is Showtime! Secondary students have been busy this week auditioning for a part in this years play, ‘A Budget Cinderella’ and it is wonderful to hear the buzz of enthusiasm amongst the students. The students who do not act in the play will have the opportunity to get involved in other ways from props, make-up and costumes. I encourage all students to get involved in this great opportunity. This week we welcome Mr Vickery onto staff for the remainder of the term. Mr Smith will also be on staff for a number of days this term. Next week Mr Budda-Deen will return from his adventures. During his absence, Mr Henley has stepped up to relieve in the Head Teacher Secondary position. Next Wednesday is our Athletics Carnival. This is a great opportunity for the students to show some team spirit and come dressed in their house colours. Remember participation includes cheering on your team. AGQUIP is also on again this term. This year the secondary students have an opportunity to attend on the Wednesday 23rd August, any student wishing to attend must return their permission slip and $30 by Friday 4th August. Year 11 will sit their Exit Exams and Year 12 their Trial HSC exams in week 5 this term. It is important that these students utilise study skills including notetaking, time management and concentration techniques to ensure they achieve to the best of their ability. Secondary students learn a variety of facts and skills in a range of subjects during their time at school. The learning process is as important as the mastering of the knowledge or skill. Learning to learn can produce competent, lifelong learners with the self-knowledge and confidence to acquire the skills they need to fit the demands of the fast-pace, fast changing 21st century.
Mrs Donna McWhirter Relieving Head Teacher Secondary
The school Athletics carnival is coming up on the 2nd of August. This is a school event and will be run at the Bundarra Sport and Recreation Club. All students are expected to attend and participate as much as possible. Wear house colours!!!
Activities in the sporting arena have been very busy this term already.
On the 21st of August, Jarad Masterson ran at Eastern Creek in Sydney. He competed in the cross country and gained 22nd position in his age group which is a great result. Jarad will also be competing in the regional athletics in Tamworth on the 4th of August. Good luck Jarad.
The U14s and Open girls league tag played in the Inverell Zone competitive League tag competition. The girls U14s gained a 3rd place overall on the day and the Open Girls went through undefeated. The Open girls now qualify for the North West final in Bingara on the 30th of August 2017. A huge well done to all the young ladies who played in these two teams, your commitment and effort were outstanding and your parents and school are very proud of you. Thank you to all parents and caregivers who helped with travel.
The Primary girls league tag side travelled to Gunnedah to compete in the regional finals. The girls played very well, they won two games, drew 1 and lost 2. They gained some valuable experience and look forward to next year's competition. Thank you again to our primary parents for transporting students to Gunnedah and for being such great supporters.
Coming up will be the next round of Primary touch games and the Open Secondary league tag finals in Bingara on the 30th of August. Please remember for students going to Dubbo Touch your deposit needs to be in by the 7th of August. Mr Nigel Henley Sports Coordinator

Welcome back to Term 3. With children settled back into class routine and plays already well under way the term has started on a very busy note. We welcomed Gwen and Jack Cowell and their Outback Scripture presentation this week. On 4th August the performance ‘Half Way Around The World’ will visit the school. We look forward to our new Kindergarten children from Preschool joining us for this performance. ‘School Safari’ with Alex Dudley will be at school on Tuesday 15th August. Mr Dudley encourages children to connect with wildlife and the environment in which we live.
Term 3 STEM enrichment camp is planned for Week 5. Again, Stage 3 students chosen to attend on the camp can look forward to an interesting, challenging experience with students from other schools. The Newcastle Permanent Mathematics Competition 2017 will be held on 23rd August. This competition is open to Stage 3 students. This competition is a great opportunity for Stage 3 students to challenge themselves mathematically. Looking forward to seeing you all at our Education Week assembly on Thursday 3rd August at 11:40am. Mrs Pam Doak Assistant Principal

2017 Canteen Campaign
Sydney Markets Fresh for Kids program will once again continue its popular fresh fruit and vegetable promotion this year, following on from the success of the Canteen Campaign in 2016. This year's Canteen Campaign will commence in Term 3 on Monday 7th August 2017 and run for 7 weeks, finishing on Friday 22nd September 2017. Children who make a healthy choice and purchase fresh fruit and/or vegetables will be rewarded. How are children rewarded? 1. Students are rewarded instantly with a tokens ticket, which must be placed on
the entry form, after making a fresh fruit and/or vegetable purchase. 2. Once students have collected two token stickers, they return the completed entry
form to the canteen where they receive a Fresh for Kids keyring. 3. After the campaign has concluded, all entry forms will need to be returned to
Sydney Markets where they are eligible to enter the draw to win some fantastic major prizes.
Note: Even if there is no canteen at your school, you can still take part in the Canteen Campaign. Instead of rewarding the students for making purchases at the canteen, reward them for bringing fresh fruit and/or vegetables in from home. Participating students will be rewarded with collectible F&V Gang pencils, and in addition, 30 lucky students have also won major prizes.
