General Information for Camp Todd Check in/Check out: Please check yourself in to your unit. If you sleeping unit is normally locked, access information will be sent after your reservation is made and prior to arrival. If you have any questions please call Joe McGinnis, Maintenance Manager at 302-526-9336. As a guest of a Girl Scout property be sure to follow the motto of “Leave a place better than you found it.” We expect that of you and your group. If a site is not in good condition upon leaving we will be in touch with you to either return to clean or the camping group may be charged an additional fee for cleaning.
Upon departure fill out the Camping Report and Checklist and email to GSCB at [email protected] Specialized Activities: For specialized activities such as Archery, Canoe, Kayaking and Zip Line you must reserve it in advance and make arrangements for the appropriate trained personnel.
SU and Encampments: Remember, if you have rented the "entire camp", this does not include activity areas such as the Adventure Wall, Adventure Trail, Art Among the Trees etc. These type of areas are still not available to other troops to come and use, but you must rent the activity to use it. If the SU or Encampment has not rented ‘Entire Camp’, any open units and activities such as the zip line, archery, kayaking may be rented to others. This allows for some day use of the camp to be available during the busiest times of the year.
Telephone: There are phones located in the Program Center 410-479-2101 and Lakeview Lodge 410-479-1530. All long distance calls must be made collect or by personal calling card. Equipment: Basic program equipment is stored in the cupboards in the unit shelters of tent and Adirondack units. Equipment for Lakeview Lodge and Choptank Lodge are kept in the indoor closets. Outdoor equipment at Choptank Lodge (buckets, shovels, rakes) is kept in the closet outside the building. The Program Center, Lakeview and Choptank kitchens are fairly well stocked with utensils etc. Go on line under Camp Todd/Facilities and look under the Kitchen Inventory for each to see a detailed listing. Please be sure to return equipment to its proper place. Each shelf is labeled for each item. Trash Removal: Before leaving, all garbage must be placed in the dumpster marked trash located at the Program Center before leaving camp. Please provide your own garbage bags. Place your recyclables (glass and aluminum) in the dumpster marked for recycle. Break down all cardboard boxes before putting them in the dumpster. Be sure all the recyclables are clean. GSCB is making every attempt to be green. Starter trash bags are in the trash cans in the Program Center, Lakeview Lodge and Choptank Lodge. When you leave, remove the used trash bags and put them in the dumpsters and replace them with new trash bags. You will need to bring three sizes - large 40 gallon bags,13 gal kitchen bags 2'x2' 4", small Walmart size trash bags. Water: The water at Camp Todd is of high quality and is tested every year by the Public Health Department. When the water is not used every day and sits in the pipes, rust can collect. Let the water run for 5-6 minutes and it will clear. We recommend bringing drinking bottles and refilling them, vs bringing cases of bottle water. Keys: Lakeview Lodge, Choptank Lodge and the Program Center use combination locks (like a real estate lock box). Inside the box will be the key to the door. Please refer to your confirmation email received a week before your camping trip for the access code.

Vehicles: Drive slow. Stay on the gravel. Due to the layout of Camp Todd, there is no need to have a vehicle in the unit area for emergency. Hideaway, Choptank, Lakeview and Whispering Pines, all have their own parking areas which are located within seconds of the units. The same is true for the Program Center, Shady Cove, Tall Timbers and Canvas Back. The main parking area is only a few seconds from each of the shelters, so there is no need to have a vehicle parked at the shelter for emergency reasons. By having all the cars parked in the parking lots provided, it leaves the unit areas free for, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. There is also an overflow parking lot just past the Pavilion field. It is also helpful, to put a 3x5 card on the dash of all parked cars, with a contact phone number, in case the car needs to be moved. Floors: The vinyl floors are to be swept and mopped using water and a SMALL amount of cleaner. (GSCB is responsible for heavy-duty cleaning and waxing of the floors). The carpeted areas of Lakeview Lodge must be vacuumed before leaving. The vacuum is in the kitchen closet. Please clean out the vacuum cleaner when done. Windows: Close and lock all windows and doors before leaving. In an Emergency: Call 911 first. Then contact Joe McGinnis, Maintenance Manager at 302-526-9336.
Health Care and Treatment: Please be sure to have the names and addresses of all participants in
your party as well as the emergency contact numbers, names and signed permission to treat or seek
treatment of all minors in your group. Be aware of any medical concerns such as allergies. Know your
group’s required treatment, restrictions and other accommodations needed. Place all First Aid and
Medical supplies in a safe and secure place. All prescription and nonprescription drugs should be kept in
a locked area until needed. All groups must have at least one adult currently trained in FA/CPR from a
nationally recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross, etc.)
AED: There is an AED on the wall by the main door of the Program Center.
Insurance: Be sure that you have the necessary insurance coverage for your stay.
Leave No Trace: Please do not carve on trees, bunks or buildings and no graffiti, please. If you would
like to paint or carve on things found in nature please bring them with you from home and take them
when you go. This includes rocks. (Rocks at Camp Todd are not naturally found and most of the rocks
that are there have been bought and brought in for fire circles, erosion etc.) So if you want to paint on
rocks, please bring them with you and take them home with you when done.
Camping Standards Please note that the standards given are established rules or principles intended to serve as a
model or example. These standards apply to all Girl Scout groups using Girl Scouts of the
Chesapeake Bay Council sites. If you have any further questions, please contact the council office
at 302-456-7150.
N:\Property\Camp Todd\Rental Forms 01-09-2019
GSCB Site Use Standards
Supervision: You are responsible for your group’s supervision and behavior while on property.
Troop Camping Report: ALL troops are responsible for turning in their report by emailing it to
[email protected] or by forwarding them to Council. This information is VITAL; we
need to know if repairs are necessary as well as keeping track of equipment damage and needs.
Please do your part and turn your report in. This will enable Troops to have the best camping
experience possible.
Leave at Home: The following are NOT PERMITTED on Council campsites:
Pets Trailers Power Saws Gasoline Lanterns, Stoves or Heaters (Lanterns,
stoves, heaters that use propane canister are permitted.)
Alcoholic Beverages Narcotics Firearms
Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in all of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay buildings.
Smoking will be allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas only. Please refrain from smoking
in the presence of children. Smoke in fire circles only. DO NOT LEAVE CIGARETTE BUTTS IN
FIRE CIRCLE.
Candles are NOT permitted on camp properties, except for during candle ceremonies.
Emergency Contact Person: Must have all appropriate names and phone numbers of those who
are in your party. All parties at home should have the Emergency Contact Person’s phone number
to reach them while they are away. The Emergency Contact Person will be responsible for
contacting 911, all family members of those involved in the emergency and Joe McGinnis,
Maintenance Manager at 302-526-9336.
Conservation: Leave moss, wild flowers and other living things growing in their own areas.. Do
not dig holes or trenches on any Council sites.
Equipment: All units have standard equipment provided see “Troop Checklist” for unit inventory”.
Do not move equipment from one site to another. If you move equipment WITHIN a site, such as
mattresses, tables and the like put it back before you leave camp.
Fireplaces: Make sure the fireplace damper is open. Before you light the fire, roll up a sheet or
two of newspaper and light one end. Hold lighted newspaper in the flue to warm the chimney. The
open damper causes convection (hot air rising) and the fireplace won’t smoke. Do not use water to
put out fires in fireplaces. Water on hot stone or brick causes it to crack. Plan your last use of the
fireplace to allow the fire to die and completely cool before you clean out the ashes. Ashes should
be put outside in the ash can. The fire must be attended to AT ALL TIMES.
Fire Circles: A fire circle is available at most units. Do not build fires except in established fire
circles. Girls and adults should follow all fire circle safety procedures when a fire is being used.
Sprinkle with water and stir with a rake to put the fire DEAD OUT. Leave unburned wood in fire
circle and do not remove ashes, unless dead cold. The next camping group or GSCB will decide if
ashes need to be removed. Please make a notation on your checkout form if the ash can needs to
be emptied. GSCB may limit the building of fires during very dry weather. The fire must be
attended to AT ALL TIMES.
Disposal of Ashes: If your site’s ash can is full, please make a notation on your checkout form if
the ash can needs to be emptied. Do not spread the ashes.
Wood Supply: USE ONLY WHAT YOU NEED. Replenish enough tinder and kindling and break it
into small pieces, for one fire for the next group of campers. Do not drag in large pieces of wood,
only small sticks to start the fire.
N:\Property\Camp Todd\Rental Forms 01-09-2019
Food and Equipment: Groups should bring their own kitchen equipment. Be sure that EVERY-THING brought to camp is packed when you are preparing to leave. Clean out refrigerators, unplug them and prop the door open with the foam block that is provided.
Dishwashing: If you are a Girl Scout group, please remember to use the three-basin method of dishwashing. Be sure plates are scraped clean before they are put in the dishwater. Start with hot soapy water, do a warm rinse and cold sanitizer with (capful of bleach to 1-gallon cold water). Dump rinse water down the sinks provided at the unit. Be sure to clean the sinks out before you leave.
Disinfecting Mattresses: This procedure is required by the State and County Health
Departments. Procedure to follow upon arrival: wipe each plastic-covered mattress with Clorox
wipes or other disinfecting wipes. For situations involving a bed wetter: The mattress must be
disinfected before leaving camp. Mattresses are to be stored on their edge in adirondack units
and flat in the tent units.
Visitors: If you are expecting visitors, please let Joe McGinnis, Maintenance Manager at 302-526-
9336 know in advance. Visitors must park their cars in the parking lot, not at the unit.
Lanterns: If you are staying in an ADK without electricity, there will be three battery operated
lanterns in the Unit Shelter. They are operated with 8 D cell batteries. They are LED’s and the
batteries last a long time, but it is your responsibility to replace them if they are low.
Bathrooms: Clean bathrooms upon arrival at the campsite, each morning and just before leaving
the site.
• A disinfectant is to be used daily to scrub lids, seats and floors.
• Lids and doors should be kept closed at all times, except during drying period.
• An agent to promote the bacterial decomposition process will be added to latrines as needed by
GSCB.
• Only toilet paper and human waste is to be put in the latrine.
• Please provide paper bags for feminine hygiene products to be placed in garbage cans.
• Please do not put feminine hygiene products, of any nature, or the paper bags in the latrine.
• Toilet paper is to be provided by the group using the unit.
Care of the Tents: Do not use aerosol sprays (deodorant, insect repellent, hair, etc.) in or near
tents. They destroy the waterproofing.
• Do not use pins in canvas. Pinholes become leaks. DO NOT WRITE ON TENTS.
• Loosen guy lines when it rains to offset tent shrinkage.
• Do not remove ropes from tents.
• Roll platform tent flaps down at least once a day so mice will not nest or chew holes in the tent
fabric.
• Platform tent door flaps should be tied with a half bow when you leave. Do not tie corners or flaps
to beds.
• Some platform tents have mats and/or beds. Be sure you leave them as you found them.
• All borrowed tents must be swept clean and COMPLETELY DRY before they are returned.
Placing metal tent spikes on the wet fabric causes rust and holes on the tent surface.
A Girl Scout is Courteous: When walking through or visiting other units in camp ask permission and please do not interrupt their program. This is someone else’s home for the weekend.
Parents Bringing Campers to Camp: Please make certain that the parents driving your girls to camp know the name of the unit you will be staying in and your Troop number. GSCB is not responsible for towing emergencies should a car be stuck or need service. Please call a local towing service if you need assistance.
Curfew: All units must be completely quiet by 11:00P.M. Remember, voices carry at night.
