This report isabout theSensitizationcumAwareness trainingprogrammesconductedwithasubjectmatterof“BetiBachaoandBetiPadhao”meaning“Savegirlchildandeducategirlchild”campaigninPuducherryUT.Thisisaspecialschememeantfortheempowermentofwom-en.TheSchemeisatri-ministerialeffortofMinistriesofWomenandChildDevelopment(MoWCD),HealthandFamilyWelfare(MoHFW)andHumanResourceDevelopment(MHRD).Hence,itwasorganizedasajointinitiativeofMinistryofWomenandChildDevelopment,MinistryofHealthandFamilyWelfareandMHRD.TheMinistryofWomenandChildDevelopmentwasdesignatedasthenodalagencyforthisinitiativetoimplementthescheme. ThepurposeoftheprogramwastotrainthegrassrootlevelfunctionarieslikeAnganwadiworkers,Healthworkersinordertocreateawarenessamongthepeopleinthecommunityabouttheimportanceofgirlchildandtodiscouragethemagainstthefemalefeticide,acancerforthesociety.TheprogramisfirstofitskindwashostedbytheSatyaSpecialSchool,PondicherryUT.Theprogramwasaimedatensuringgirlsareborn,nurturedandeducatedwithoutdiscriminationtobecomeempoweredcitizensofthiscountrywithequalrights.Therewasahugeenthusiasmamongtheparticipantsfortheprogrammes.Theworkshopwasakeyactivityfortheministriescampaigningtowardsempowermentofgirlchildreninsociety.Thisreportprovidesoverviewoftheworkshop,backgroundinformationandobjectives,summaryofthepresentations/sessionsanddiscussions.
Sexratio,asweallknow,isanimportantsocialindicatortomeasuretheextentofprevail-ingequitybetweenmalesandfemalesinagivensocietyatagivenpointoftime.InthecaseofIndia,thesexratiotrendshavebeenshowingadecliningtrendwitheverypassingCensussince1961.AsdeclineofthisdegreeisalarmingtosaytheleastI.e.,918girls/1000boys,thisisaclearindicatorofwomendisempowerment,reflectingbothpre-birthdiscriminationagainstgirlsman-ifestedthroughgender-basedsexselectionandalsopost-birthdiscrimination.

Background and Objective:

TheprincipalfactorsinfluencingCSRareSexRatioatBirth(SRB–calculatedasnumberofgirlsbornper1000boys)andmortality in theearlychildhood.Oursocialconstructdiscriminatingagainstgirls, furtheraidedby theeasyavailability,affordabilityandsubsequentmisuseofdi-agnostictoolshasplayedacriticalroleinincreasingsex-selectiveeliminationofgirls,therebyleadingtolowSRB.Andthestrongsocio-culturalandreligiousbiases,preferenceforsonsanddiscriminationagainstdaughtershaveaccentuatedtheproblem. Thus,alarmedbythesharpdeclineinCSRaspointedbyCensus2011,theGovernmentofIndiaintroducedaninitiativenamelyBetiBachao,BetiPadhao(BBBP–translatingintoEnglishas‘Savethegirlchild,educatethegirlchild’)withaviewtoaddressingtheissueofdecliningChildSexRatio.ThefirstprogramofthekindhasbeenfirstlaunchedatPanipatinHaryana,thestatethatrecordedthelowestChildSexRatiointhecountryasperCensus2011(834girls/1000boys).
Hence,therewasafeltneedforharmonizedandjointactionsbydifferentactorsthatin-cludesinformationeducationcommunication,behaviourchangecommunicationandcommunitymobilizationinitiativestohelpcombatthisconcerntoimprovethechildsexratio.Therefore,theoverallgoalofBetiBachao,BetiPadhaoSchemewastocelebratethegirlchildandtoenablehereducation.TheoverallobjectiveoftheSchemeistoimprovethedecliningCSRandpromoteEducationoftheGirlchild.Thespecificobjectivesofthenobleinitiativeare(1)Topreventgen-derbiasedsexselectiveelimination(2)Toensuresurvivalandprotectionofthegirlchild(3)Toendureeducationofthegirlchild.Thus,theprogramisdesignedtoequipgrossrootlevelfunc-tionarieslikeAnganwadiworkers,healthworkers,NGOstocreateamassmovementtoprotectandeducatethegirlchild.

Theoverallprogramwascomprisedandstructuredintovariousdifferentcompo-nentssuchasCapacitatingtheAnganwadiworkersandHealthworkersinordertocreateaware-nessamongthepeopleinthecommunityabouttheimportanceofgirlchildandtoeducateandprotectgirlchildandtodiscouragethecommunityagainstthefemalefeticide;Educatingandgendersensitizingworkshopsand lifeskill trainingfor theschoolgoingadolescentgirlsandboys in theGovtschools;Sensitizingyoungcoupleson the importanceofhavingaPlannedParenthoodtoprotectgirlchildrenandtheirrolesandresponsibilitiesineducatinggirlchild;toconductNationalgirlchildcelebration,toconductWomen’sdaycelebration;sensitizingmedicalcollegestudents;andtoconductpostercompetitiononchanginggenderrolesofboysandgirls.Thecompositionofthedifferentprogramswereaimedatcampaigningtowardsensuringgirlsareborn,nurturedandeducatedwithoutdiscriminationtobecomeempoweredcitizensofthiscountry.

TheparticipantsoftheoverallprogramweretheAnganwadiworkers,healthworkers,andyoungcouples,schoolgoingadolescentgirlsandboys,collegestudents,parentstheGovt.of-ficialsandNGOsrepresentatives. In total1854personsweredirectly reached,sensitizedandmadeawareoftheschemeandtheyinturnwouldincreasetheawarenessofprogramamongstthepublicandthecommunities. As part this campaign 9 different programmes were organized. In this connection it ispertinent to mention that BBBP has been included as a special theme for Special OutreachProgramme.The Anganwadi workers and health workers were invited from all communes inPuducherry.Sothemaincadreofparticipantswasthepersonswhoarealreadyinthewomenandchilddevelopmentbracketsintheirrespectivevillageswhoregularlycomeintocontactwiththecommunity.Itishopedthatonreturningtotheirstationstheywouldinfluencepeopleingen-eraltolearnabouttheimportanceofwomenempowermenttocreateajustsocietybyeducatinggirlchildandprotectinggirlchild. They could therefore influence essential management of information and knowledgesharingwith the targetpeopleparticularly theparentsand the familymembers.Thesuccess-fulimplementationofanyprogramdependsupontheknowledge,attitudeandpracticeamongfunctionaries.Hence,implementationofthisschemeaswelldependsonthekeyfunctionariessuchasAnganwadiworkersandhealthworkers.BecausetheAnganwadiWorkers(AWWs)andcommunityhealthworkersareafrontlinecommunityworkersassignedtoworkinthecommuni-tyandtocreateawarenessamongthepublicaboutthevariousrehabilitationfacilitiesalongwithdischargingtheICDSservices
TheAWWsarethemostimportantfunctionariesofthevariousresponsibilitiesinthecom-munity.TheAWWswhoarethemainresourcepersonandwhoseknowledgeandskillsdohaveadirectimpactontheimplementationofthevariousgovernmentalschemes.Hence,thetrainedAnganwadiworkerswillbeabletoperformbetterinprovidingthebasicservicesregularly,prop-erlyandeffectively.TheAnganwadiworkerassumesanimportantrole,sincesheisincloseandcontinuouscontactwiththebeneficiariesespeciallyfromruralandurbanslumareas.

Aspartofthecampaignactivity,capacitybuildingandSensitizationprogrammewasor-ganizedforAnganwadiworkersunderBetiBachaoBetiPadhaoatmeetinghall,WomenandchildWelfareatSaramPuducherry.Ms.Shanthi,DWCW,Ms.Malathy,DWCW,Ms.BinduModi,PresidentofSatyaSpecialSchool,Ms.ChitraShah,DirectorSatyaSpecialSchool,Ms.SitaRamkumar,Secretary Satya Special School; Dr. Nalini, MSW department Pondicherry University honoredthe firstprogramon theoccasion.About60Anganwadiworkers, the ICDSsupervisors,NGOrepresentativeswerethemainparticipantsoftheprogramme.Theobjectiveoftheprogrammewastodiscussbrieflytopreventgenderbiasedsexselectiveelimination;toensuresurvivalandprotectionofthegirlchild;toensureeducationofthegirlchild;andtoimpartknowledgeaboutActsandlawsrelatedtosafetyandpreventionofgenderbasedviolence.Ms.BinduModi,Pres-identofSatyaSpecialSchoolbriefedaboutthevariousactivitiesdonefortheempowermentofthechildrenwithdisabilities.Ms.ShanthibriefedaboutBBBPanditsimportancegivenforthegirlchildpromotion. Thus,theBBBPcampaignwaslaunchedinPondicherrytorestraindecliningsexratiointhestate.Duringtheprogrammetheparticipantswereapprisedaboutsurvival,protectionandeducationofgirlchildthroughpresentations,lectures,playsandsongs.Theywereinformedaboutfalloutofdecliningsexratioandfemalefeticideinthesociety.TheywereinformedaboutstepsbeingtakenbythestateAdministrationinthisregardlikeMasscommunicationcampaign,celebrationofbirthofgirlchild,monthlymonitoringofsexratio.ThecampaigninvolvesactiveroleofICDS,Health,Education,PoliceandRuralDevelopmentDepartment.

Thechiefguestsspokeandcalledforbringingapositivechangeinperceptionaboutbirthofagirlchild.Theystresseduponsensitizationatthegroundlevelandregularmonitoringofthecampaignbytherespectivepeople.TheyemphasizeduponbettercoordinationbetweenICDSandHealthdepartmentsandthepivotalroleAnganwadiworkerscanplaytomakethepromotionasuccess. TheresourcepersonMr.PerumalfromSamugamTrustSalam,startedbriefingwiththemainobjectiveoforganizingsuchprogrammes.HesaiditwastoinvolvemoreandmorekeyfunctionarieslikeAnganwadiworkersandhealthworkersingeneratingawarenessaboutBetiBachaoBetiPadhao,sincetheyareinthemaincentreofthevillageandurbanareasastheyof-tencomeintoregularcontactwiththecommunitymembers.Hesaidandraisedquestionsthatintoday’ssocietywhatistheroleandcontributionofthewomanorgirlchild?Andhewentontoexplainhowwomenweretreatedandwhattheirstatuswasinoldendaysandhowtheancientpeopleunderstoodwomenineveryaspect.

Healsosaidaccordingtothehistoricalresearchitwasthewomenwhoinventedagriculture.But,womenwererestrictedfromgoingforhuntingintheforestsandthenwererestrictedthroughmarriageknotandfamilyritualscustoms.Furtherhesaidthefactorsthatpreventedwomenfrombeinganequalcitizeninthesocietythatwomenhadtoobeyparentsandhusbandirrespectiveoftheprosandconsoftheadvicesandrestrictionsandrulesandregulationsenforcedonwomen.Duetoinferioritycomplex,superstitions,wrongthoughts,lackofsecuritywomenhadtocontin-uetofaceinequalityanddiscrimination.Peopleevenstartedtothinkaboutwomanasaninferiorbeingwhilegrowinginthefetusitself isaffectingtheimageofawomanasitstillhappensinUsalimpattivillageinMaduraidistrict.
Theresourcepersondemonstratedanactivitytoexplaintherulesthatarecreatedbymeninthesocietyagainstthewomenwithouttheconsensusofthewholesociety.Hedidthatbytyinguptheeyesonehastotouchtheflowerdrawnontheblackboard,hesaidandsohedidbutthereweresomemisleadingandwrongdoingoftheactiontotouchtheflower.Thus,itwasexplainedthatwhiletryingtotouchtheflowerintheblackboardmanydidnotfollowtheruleandmanyformedtheirownwayoftouchingtheflower,butitwasallwrongdoingandirrelevantwayofdoingitandapproachingitheexplained.

So,thisishowtheancientpeoplecreatedtheirownrulesandregulationsandcus-tomarypracticestobefollowedbythewoman,headded.Whateverthewomanfollowsasrulesitwasalldonebyenforcedbythemaledominatedsociety,heexplained.
Therefore, he insisted on early practices such grow up girl child from the earlystagewithselfconfidence,selfrespect,copingskills,problemsolvingskill,creativityandsupe-riorcomplexsothatthegirlchildwillgrowupandempoweredonparwithmalechildren,soallthiselementsshouldcultivatedfromthechildhoodonwardsinordertofaceanysortofsituationwithoutdependingonmalesociety,hesaid.Hewenttosayandexplainedthatthegirlchildrenareaffectedbythegenderbiasedattitudeeverywhereandineverywalksofthelifebycitingthestatisticsofgenderbasedviolenceinthestate.Thus,hewantedtofurtheraddontosayandsingasong.HesangasonginTamilthathaditmeaningwewillalsogetopportunityandhavelife,weshallhaveprosperitythatencouragedandmotivatedtheparticipantstogetonwellwiththetrainingandachievethegoalajustsocietyforall.

HealsoplayedanothergamenamelySmallpotandbigpot.Throughthisgamehetriedtolistoutthedifficulties,problemsandhurdlesfacedbywomanandtheirconsequencesindaytodaylife.Hence,heemphasizedonearlyinterventiontoempowergirlchildrenwouldbeveryessential.HesaidthegirlchildshouldgrowwithDecisionmakingskills;Problemsolvingskills;Criticalthink-ing;Creativethinking;Inter-personalskills;Effectivecommunicationskills;Copingwithemotion;Selfawarenessandunderstanding;selfrespectandselfexaminationonlythengirlswillgrowupwithmorepowerandstrengthtobeatequallywiththeircounterpart,headded.Healsosaidthepeopleingeneralathome,workingplaceandofficeshouldavoidthecomparisonbetweenmaleandfemalebecauseeverychildhasgotitsuniquenessanddifferentthereforeheorshehastherighttoloveandtobelovedandtoberespected,headded.
FEEDBACK: Theparticipantssaidtheyunderstoodgenderequalitywhichisveryimport-antaspect tobefollowedbyeveryone.Theyfelt thebothmaleandfemalechildrenshouldbetreatedequallywithoutanydiscrimination.Theysaidtheycouldverywelllearnaboutthehistor-icalperspectiveandtheirapproachesandbehaviourtowardswomanandtheywellunderstoodaboutthescheme.Theyalsosaidtheyhaveunderstoodthattheratioofgirlchildandlearntthatthedecliningoftheratiowouldcertainlyaffectthecommunityandthesocietyatlargeinmanyaspects.Theysaidtheywouldgobacktotheirstationsandrecallalltheaspectsandinputsandcollectthemandconsolidatethemandputthemintoactionandtheysaidtheywoulddefinitelygenerateawarenessabouttheimportanceoftheschemeamongstthecommunity

Aspartofthecampaignactivity,acapacitybuildingandSensitizationprogrammeforHealthworkerswasplannedandorganizedunderBetiBachaoBetiPadhaoschemeatthemeeting hall,Women and child development department premises at Saram Puducherry on10/12/2016.Mr.PerumalSamagamTrust,Salamwastheresourceperson.Ms.Vijaya,socialwork-er,SatyaSpecialSchoolorganizedtheprogramme.About60healthworkershadcomeandpar-ticipatedandbenefitedoftheprogramme.Themainobjectiveoftheprogrammewastohelpthemunderstandtheissuesarisingduetothegenderbiasedpracticesbythecommunityingeneral.Specificallytheobjectivesweretodiscussbrieflyaboutpreventinggenderbiasedsexselectiveelimination; toensuresurvivalandprotectionof thegirlchild; toensureeducationof thegirlchild;andtoimpartknowledgeaboutActsandlawsrelatedtosafetyandpreventionofgenderbasedviolence.

Theresourcepersonbriefedabout thecausesand theconsequencesof thedif-ferent approaches and discriminatory practices prevailing in the society. He said though ourcountryisprogressinginmanyfieldsyettoprogressinaneweraofdevelopment,hencetheresponsibility liesoneachoneofustoensuregenderequityandfullparticipationofwomentowardsthenation’sbuilding.Asweknowthewomenhavehistoricallybeenleftoutofimportantdecisionmakingbothathomeandinthepublicthecauseforwhichliesinthecultureofmakingdiscriminationagainstwomenandgirls.Hence,withoutbringingaboutachangeinthisculturalmindsethalfthepopulationofourcountrywillremainbereftofassessingequalrightsandop-portunities. Thereforethisnobleinitiativeofpromotingtheschemeofeducategirlchildandsavegirlchildwouldbeverymuchappropriateandworkingtowardsthegoalwillresultpositively.Hesaidtheentireprogramistochangethemindsetthatdiscriminatesagainstwomenthroughouttheirlife.Heexplainedhowwomenareundergoingvariousdiscriminatorypracticesinthecommunity.Hesaidrightfromthestageofconceptionagirl’slifeisatriskasparentsandsocietyhaveprej-udicesagainstgivingbirthtofemalechildren.Evenafterbirth,manygirlsfacelackofadequatecarefromtheirfamilies,posingaseriousrisktotheirsurvivalanddevelopment.Thisdiscriminationcreatesobstaclesforgirlstoachievetheirfullpotentialas theyprogress throughdifferentstagesof life.Hence, inorder tocombat thisproblemweneedtoinvolveourselvesandthecommunityatlargetohelpchangemind-setsinfavourofwomenandgirls.Thereforeheinsistedontheactiveinvolvementofthekeyfunctionar-iestowardscreatingajustsocietyforthewellbeingandempowermentofwomenandgirls.
Hefurtherexplainedthathowwomenarecomparedtothenatureflower,moon,riv-erthroughasonghesangfortheparticipants.Thesocietyhastheresponsibilitytoprotectthegirlsbutinrealitythatdoesnothappenandstillthediscriminationagainstthegirlspracticed,headded.Duetothisproblemtheparentsarereluctanttosendtheirgirlsoutside.Thesocialmediaandthewebsitealsomisusedtodegradewomenandgirlsandtheprintmediaalsospreadtheunwantedandwrongmessagesthegirlsthereforetheparentsaredepressedandworriedaboutthegirlslife.

Hesaid thegirlswereexplainedabout thegoodtouchandbadtouch.He insisted thatparentsshouldalsobeawareofthegoodtouchandbadtouch.Hesaid,intoday’sworldwomenandgirlsareaffectedduetosomedisturbingsocialfactorslikerelationshipwithfriends,schoolfriends,caste,religion,socialmediaetc..Whenthereisgenderequitycreatedorbroughtinthesocietyallthistroubleswillbesolvedandvanished.So,genderequityimpliesbothmaleandfe-malearetreatedequallyandthepowerissharedequally.But,thegenderdiscriminationisdoneduetosocialconstruction,headded.So,genderbiaseddiscriminationaffectsbothmaleandfemaleinthesociety,headded.Itisbelievedthatmanissuperiortowoman,manismasculineandstrongerthanwoman.Thefamilyalsoexpectsthatmanshouldbeabletoearnmorethanwoman,womanshouldacceptandtakeuphouseholdresponsibilities.But,infactwomancandoeverythingequallywithmanbutthesocietydoesnotacceptit. He also conducted a debate on the above said issues related to woman, some peoplefromtheaudienceparticipatedinthedebateanddebated.Itwasdonetohelpparticipantsbetterunderstandthestatusofwomeninthesociety.Thus,theentiresessionwasveryusefultotheparticipants.Theparticipantsalsoexpressedthatthesessionwasreallymeaningfulandgaveinsightsonthegenderequityandhelpedthemshifttheirperspectives.

ThesensitizationcumawarenesstrainingfortheeligiblecouplesonPlannedPar-enthoodandtheirrolesandresponsibilitieswasplannedandorganizedaspartofthecampaignundertheBBBPschemeon09/01/2017atVTPMahal,Embalam.Mrs.Kandasamy,MinsterofSo-cialWelfarewasthechiefguestfortheprogram.Mr.Mihirvardhan,IAS,secretary-Welfare,Ms.Shanthi,DeputyDirectorDWCW,Dr.Allirani,Ms.ChitraShah,DirectorSatyaSpecialSchoolandspecialinviteeMs.Oviya,socialactivistfromChennaiwerepresentandhonoredthepro-gramontheoccasion.About84peopleincludingtheeligiblecoupleshadcomeandparticipatedandbenefitedoftheprogram. Theobjectiveof theprogramwas togenerateawarenessamongst theeligiblecouplesontheimportanceofpromotinggirlchildandwomanempowerment;toeliminatethepracticeofgenderbaseddiscriminationandtomakethecommunityandthesocietytofeelthatthrougheducatingthegirlchildandprotectingthegirlchildthesocietywillprosper.

AttheoutsetMs.VijayatheprogramorganizercumresourcepersonfromSatyaSpecialSchoolextendedawarmwelcometothedignitariesandtheaudienceandexplainedthepurposeoftheprograminbrief.AtfirstMr.Kandasamy,WelfareMinisterPondicherryaddressedthegath-ering.Speakingontheoccasionhesaidtheselectedthemeforthecampaignwasveryrelevantandimportantfortoday’ssociety.Whilespeakingontheimportanceofthegirlchildandwomandevelopmenthesaideachandeveryfemalechildhasuniquecapacityandthatitisveryobviousthattheycanshineverywellintheareatheywanttoflourish.Henceitisnotwiseforanyonetodocomparisonbetweenmenandwomeninanyaspect.Itisnotalwaystosaythatmenaresupe-riorinalltheaspectsandareasoflifejourney. Hefurthersaidagirlchildisapillarofstrengthforherfamilyandprovidesallkindsofsupport,beitmoral,emotionalorfinancial.Shesupportsallherlovedoneswithallhermight.Normally,itisobservedthatwomenareabletomakerationaldecisions,whicharehelpfulinthelongrun.Shewillbethereareyouduringallyouratrocitiesandgivesconstantencouragement.Generallygirlsareoptimisticandcarryapositiveauraaroundthem.Frombeingawife/mother/daughter/sistertoalawyer/CEO/architect/managerandwhatnot,agirlmanagestoexcelineveryaspectofher life.Shehandleseverythingwithgraceandmaturity.Multitasking issomethingwhichcomesnaturallytothem!Fromworryingaboutthedirtydishestofillingpapersintheof-fice,nothingescapeshermind.Shegivesher100%inwhatevershedoes.Ononeside,shehastotakecareofherhousehold,rearchildrenandontheotherhandprovidefinancialstabilityandsupportherhusband.

SpeakingonthespecialoccasionMs.Oviyathesocialactivistcumjournalistsaidinto-day’sworld thewomenandgirlsare lookedatasentertainmentandpleasureobjects for thesociety.MoreoverduetotheimpactoftheTVadvertisementandmodernizationourcultureofdressingandapproachesalsohasbeenchangedfromthetraditionalwayofdressingcode.Thegirlshavebeenaffectedbythemoderndressandcosmetics.Therightwayofbringingupandnurturingthegirlchildrenlieswiththemothers.Mothersandfathershavetotakecareofsuchthings,sheadded.Motheralsoseemstoadvisethegirlchildfromtheearlystageslikelearntobeagoodmother,learntobegoodmotherinlawlearntobegooddaughterinlaw.But,thisisawrongwayofbringingupthegirlchildinthefamily,sheconcerned.Insteadnooneadvicesthegirlchildtobeagoodperson,tobeagoodhumanbeing,moreovertheTVchannelsandthebigscreencinemaalsoportraytheeducatedgirlasbadcharacter.
Themotherfeelshappyandproudofthemalechildborninthefamily,butsadaboutthegirlchildbecauseofthevariousreasonslikethesocietybeinganhindrance,lackprotectionandthediscriminationagainstthegirlchildetc.Therefore,shefeelsitsalwaysbetterthefamilygetsamalechildandlessenstheburdenofbringingupthefemalechild.Thesocietylooksatthemalechildandacceptsatanyconditionevenwithdisabilitiesbutitsnotinthecaseofgirlchild.Buttodaytheprideofthegirlorwomanliesinthetypeofjobsheisdoinginthesociety.Ifsheisdoingwellqualifiedjobsheistreatedhigh.

OnthedayofthecelebrationthechildrenfromthreeNGOs(SatyaSpecialSchool,JollyhomeandUdhaviKarangalgirlchildhomehadcomeandparticipatedintheSkitcompetitionheldtocreateawarenessamongparticipantsonthreedifferenttopicssuchasthedifferencebetweenthe lifeofSpecialchildrenandnormalchildrenathousehold level;Girlchildeducation;andwomanempowermentrespectively.FirstprizeofRs.10,000cashawardwaswonbychildrenfromUdhaviKarangalgirlchildhome,secondprizeofRs,5000CashawardwaswonbychildrenfromSatyaSpecialSchoolandJollyHomewonthirdprizeofRs.3,000cashaward.
Theoverallcelebrationwasheldwithamotivetopromotethegirlspositioninthesocietytomaketheirlivingbetteramongsocietypeople.Thecelebrationstressedontheneces-sitytoremovedifferenttypesofsocialdiscriminationandexploitationthatgirlsgenerallyfacein their life. Henceinordertoredeemthegirlchildfromallsortofinequalitiesanddiscriminationthisprogramofcelebrationasapartofcampaignaimedatraisingawarenessamongpeopleindiffer-entcommunitiestorealizetheimportanceofgirl’spromotion.Theoverallprogramemphasizedontheneedtomakeameaningfulcontributionofthegirlsindecisionmakingprocessesthroughactivesupportoftheparentsandothercommunitymembers.Theprogrammealsoemphasizedwomanwas,andsheisandshewillalwaysbeonparwithmalechildprovidedtheopportunityandnurturingisgiven.Hence,itwasfeltweallhavetobetorchbearertotreatthegirlchildequaltoboychildineveryaspectsoflife,i.e.academic,sports,economic,social,recreation,spiritual,etc.
Thespeakersalsonotedthatweneedtohavesuchprogrambecauseasperthe2011censusPuducherrytheratioofagirlchildwithboyis947per1000.Itshowstheratioofthegirlchildisdecreasing.So,inordertostopsuchdownfallintheratioofgirlchildinfutureitwasfeltstategovernmentandthecivilsocietieshaveneedtotakeefforttoeducatethecommunitytobecomeawareandcontributetocreateanequalandjustsocietyforgirlchild.Thespeakerscamewithshiftedperspectivesaboutgirlsinthesociety.Theirspeechestailoredtomotivatethesignificanceofgirlchildandstimulatedtosavethegirlchild.Thespeakersdiscoursedthatfrombeingawife/mother/daughter/sistertoalawyer/CEO/architect/managerandwhatnot,agirlman-agestoexcelineveryaspectofherlife.

It isawell-knownfactthatagirlchildismoreobedient,honestandsincerethanaboychild.Shediscoursedthatthegirlisnomoreinferiortoboysexceptonphysicalaspectrestalltheaspectsgirlsarefarbetterthanboys.Thisdifferencewascreatedbytheorthodoxsociety.Boysusuallygeteasilydistracted,withallthesportsandtechnology!Girlsappeartobemoremeticulousandhaveastrongersenseofresponsibilitytowardstheirfamilyandtheirownaspi-rations.Itisevidentfromthefactthatmostofthetopexamshavegirlsastoppers!Ifweneedtogeneralize,thentheyarequieterandhaveabetterconcentrationlevel.Herguiltyconsciouswillneverallowhertodisappointherparentsoranylovedone.
