New Video Series! Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick
Introducing … a new idea.
Moving way outside of the comfort zone, including videos now in all we do. To allow you another way to know who Pioneer Outfitters is, how and why we do what we do here in the remote Alaska bush.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Winter Horses
Join this Campfire Chat as we discuss the range horses that are a huge part of Pioneer Outfitters.
We will chat about how we care for these horses that spend the majority of every year running free and wild in the Alaska Wilderness as range horses.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Winter Comfort Wintertime in Alaska is an experience of a lifetime! The entire world is covered in a pristine white layer that gives each flash of color an inner neon glow. The crisp, clean air washes every shadow away and fills you anew with energy and joy.
It is also a time for stews and dinners next to a crackling fireplace. A couple of my favorites are Moose Stew and Bannock.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Guide Gradua:on
Pioneer Outfitters has been training its own Professional Guides since 1924, teaching ethics, values, woodsman and horseman skills, safety, logistics, survival, game, state and Federal laws and regulations, firearms safety, various hunting techniques, trophy care, aircraft familiarization, photography, cooking and camp cooking, attitude … and all sorts of other nifty skills that a Professional Guide must have in his personal arsenal. Pioneer Outfitters Guide Training is 100% and ALL, hands-on-training. We want our Alaska Guide Trainees to understand exactly what it takes to be a guide.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Bush Holidays
Join us as we talk about how we celebrate Birthdays and Holidays here in Chisana. Family is everything to Pioneer Outfitters. Family is a group of people, bound together by a common thread. Wikipedia states; “One of the primary functions of the family is to produce and reproduce persons, biologically and/or socially.” Pioneer Outfitters Alaska Guide Training is exactly that and so much more. We are family.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Monster Moose Join us as we talk about monster moose! The Yukon-Alaska Moose. So much about moose can be shared and I hope our Campfire Chat put things in be6er perspec7ve for you ~ although I will have to stress, yet again, there is nothing like being face to face, standing on the ground in front of a live and in-‐the-‐flesh, monster Alaska-‐Yukon Moose for the first 7me!
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
S’mores of Ques:ons
Come on over, it’s warm by the fire! Tonight’s Campfire Chat is s’mores of ques7ons!! Some of the ques7ons you have leI me are so easily answered, I thought I would answer them in a mish-‐mash (s’mores) Chat.
SPECIAL!! Campfire Chat with Alaska
Chick, The Northern Lights
Sharing this magical moment with you all, even without the welcoming heat from my campfire! The Northern Lights are a magical dance in the night sky and one I never 7re of watching, no ma6er how cold it gets! The tricky part is that I have to remove my gloves to take the photos! Thus, since I first figured out how to photograph the Aurora Borealis, I have frost-‐bi6en my finger 7ps so many 7mes that even chilly nights makes them hurt. ~ The price we pay… some7mes is paid willingly and with giddy knowledge.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Profound and Humbling
Join us around the fire this night as we answer a very revealing ques7on. Tonight, we discuss my most profound and the most humbling moments I have experienced in the wilderness we call home surrounding Chisana.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, On the Trail
Being out on the trail… it is an amazing adventure. Every day, every bend in the trail, every direc7on we choose to go, there waits something different, something wonderful. If you can imagine being at peace and energized at the same 7me-‐ that is how being on the trail feels to me. The air, the mountains, the rocks, the glaciers, the trees and all the wild cri6ers that we encounter here in the wilderness, this is all out on the trail.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Be Fearless Now!
This night around the fire, we were not chaVng about a ques7on asked. Instead we will share with you how we each feel about Fearless during the Year of the Horse (2014) as our focus.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Spring Grizzly
Tonight we are chaVng with Master Guide Terry Overly about the ques7ons that two young brothers in Michigan, Merek and Mikah have about Spring Grizzly! The brothers call themselves our “Fan-‐Club” and they had a whole bunch of ques7ons about Grizzly Bears in the Spring7me of Alaska. So oIen, the ques7ons we are asked are answered very easily as this is our life and Grizzly Bears are a big part of that life. But! This 7me, we were asked a ques7on neither Master Guide Terry Overly nor myself have ever had to answer! A bonus, for sure!
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Wilderness Pack Trip Adventures
We are chaVng tonight about the different Wilderness Pack Trip Adventures we offer here at Pioneer Ouci6ers in the Wrangell St. Elias Na7onal Park. The fact is that we offer some of the most exclusive and amazing Horseback Adventures in the phenomenally majes7c Mountain Wilderness in the world. The only piece missing is YOU!
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Supplies in the Bush
It takes a bit of planning, experience and know-‐how, but most oIen I feel when visi7ng friends in town that our pantry is much be6er stocked than anyone else’s I know! With growing children and hard workingmen and women living in Chisana, it is important to have nutri7ous meals and plenty of them. What is of the utmost importance to remember is this; everything is flown into Chisana. Everything. Everything that comes into Chisana is flown in by Master Guide Terry Overly or by a charter aircraI. A quick rule of thumb when considering the cost and price of anything can easily be doubled.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Wild Alaska
There is just no be6er way to experience real Alaska, a true wilderness and the wild places that surround us than the way we do it ~ on horseback. The majes7c mountains that loom and surround us, the glaciers that redefine all sense of size and the icy rivers that rage all the way to the sea. The wildlife is amazing and riding through the wilderness on horseback gives you a be6er view and unno7ced approach to get the photographs unlike the photographs taken from buses and tours ~ exactly like everyone elses.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Horseback Fitness Adventure
So many people, from all over the world have come to the decision that if they are going to truly reclaim their own lives from the toxic cycles of diets and gym memberships, they are going to have to escape it first. At the fire tonight, I want to talk with you about why I feel that this Adventure, here in this exclusive and incredibly private area of our Na7on’s largest Na7onal Park is going to be that place people have been looking for.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Wilderness Trapping
There is so much history to trapping and so much more to share with you about the trapping that has gone on in Alaska, so much longer than it can be shared. The Na7ve Americans taught the trappers and mountain men, the first white men to cross the Great Plains and go into the Rocky Mountains, the skills they needed to hunt and trap. In Alaska, it started even earlier. This seasonal harvest of wildlife, the trapping most especially, provided and s7ll today, provides the meat and warm fur needed to sustain life in the North.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Meet the Team
Welcome back to our fire! Come join us as we chat with the newest member of the Alaska Guide Training team. Meet the Team is the series that gives you a closer, in-‐depth look at each member of the team here at Pioneer Ouci6ers. So come on over to the fire and grab a chair or a stump with Master Guide Terry Overly, my li6le Alaska Chick-‐let and another one of our Alaska Guide Trainees, Wesley and get to know Caleb a li6le.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Welcome back!
Our campfire is crackling in the night and it is welcoming and warm, so join us tonight and I will share with you what has been going on here in the mountains. The promise of the last fron7er and untamed, unclaimed land and space and unmarked paths, leading into the wilderness of the unknown; to Be Fearless in every aspect of living our lives has been both exhilara7ng and exhaus7ng.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Living Off the Grid
This Campfire Chat includes Master Guide Terry Overly and we will be chaVng about what it really takes to live “off the grid” and in a place like Chisana. The hardest part of our lifestyle isn’t the distance from people or convenient stores or health care that is truly hard, living the way we do. It isn’t the physical work or the remoteness. Join us and find out what we agree really is the most important element to living “Off the Grid.”
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Back to Bears
This Campfire Chat includes Master Guide Terry Overly and It is hard for us to agree on spring here in Chisana, although. Most are just plain happy like Master Guide Terry Overly, for the sunshine and the rising temperatures that spring brings. Myself? I would prefer to skip spring. (Eeww, sloppy, muddy, poopy…) The one thing we do all agree on however is that Spring Grizzly Bear Hunts are a lot of fun. The fact that we are only aIer one thing for one client and our en7re team is focused on that goal relieves so much of the stress and exhaus7on that seems to be a natural part of life in the fall.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick, Dall Sheep
This Campfire Chat includes Master Guide Terry Overly and we will be chaVng about Dall sheep, the majes7c white animal that watches over all that goes on below from the high peaks of the mountains that surround us in Chisana. Dall sheep hun7ng is an incredible accomplishment. It is one of those cri6ers that should fill you with a wondrous sense of accomplishment, simply by hun7ng it. It requires more heart and determina7on than anything else, and gives so much to those who would try.
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Beyond the Harvest
Beyond the Harvest, more than the kill, photographs, pats on the back and the beau7ful trophy that you have forever; are you receiving from your amazing experience in the Alaska Wilderness, all she has to offer? During this chat, Master Guide Terry Overly and I are speaking of so much more than simply a trophy. Join us and tell me what you think!
Campfire Chat with Alaska Chick,
Girls in the Wilderness
Around the fire tonight we are chaVng about what it’s like for Girls in the Wilderness inside the oldest boy’s club in human history. Professional Big Game Guides, historically and s7ll mainly a male-‐dominated field can make a girl pause before she commits to the dream that calls to her.
