An investigation into how in the modern world even a small YouTube channel may be considered an independent company.
A YouTube account that makes small films. It investigated the effect of dialogue on
production It makes several series of short films Each series of short films contain the same
dialogue, yet each film is completely different, e.g. a claymation and a Bonnie and Clyde style film both made using the same dialogue
The company ask the public to send in scripts(premises) for short films, however without dialogue just plot and character information and movement
With these scripts, the company then go on to produce five short films using the their chosen dialogue, prewritten by a writer, who has sent in his work in order that it can be published. Left is the brief they have on their website, about entering a film idea.
Bombay Sapphire
One of these films was a short film entitled . The Crab .
Claymation film depicting the events of two talking crabs as they find, on their beach, a bottle which can suck inside it the entire universe. One crab against the advice of the other opens it nevertheless and the universe is sucked inside leaving the two crabs and the bottle floating in a void. Eventually they smash the bottle open and everything is put back the way it was, well almost, as the Statue of Liberty now stands on the crabs beach. The film closes with the two crabs standing by the bottle with one asking the other “What are you doing”
“Isn’t it obvious” the other replies, as he goes to reopen the bottle which would begin the story again.
.The Crab.
As previously mentioned, the same script is used to convey different premises to create different effects.
In The Crab the effect that the directors wanted to create was humour and playfulness which is reflected by their choice of medium, Claymation.
Claymation is a technique similar to stopmotion filming, wherein an object or series of objects is/are moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. In claymation these objects are often moveable clay figurines like those found in the popular claymation Wallace and Gromit

As a YouTube channel YouTube and its parent company Google provide free distribution too
In association with
Wikipedia defines an independent as : “independent film is a professional film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. An independent film production can rival a mainstream film production if it has the necessary funding and distribution.”
The YouTube channel of Bombay Sapphire meets all of these criteria and so with the aid of YouTube and Tribeca Film Festival as its distributor can be classed as a small production company.
