Pray for Vocations
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray and he gives them what we call “the Lord’s prayer”. The He-brew word which begins the prayer is “Abba” which translates to “papa” or “daddy”. In other words, Jesus invites us as disci-ples to pray intimately with God. This intimacy with God im-plies intimacy with one another. If God is our father, then we have many brothers as sisters. In our prayer, do we remember to pray for their needs as well as our own? Is our prayer stretching us to embrace the needs of the poor, the needy and vulnerable throughout our world?
Cedarbtake Catholic Retreat Center in Belton Reaching Out: Three Movements of the Spiritual Life will be presented August 12-14. Henri Nouwen views our spiritual ascent as evolving in three movements: loneliness to solitude, hostility to hospitality and illusion to prayer. The more we are able to understand our own struggles in these areas, the more fully we will be able to embrace a more prayerful and genuine life that is also open to others’ needs. For more information or to register, call (254) 780-2436 or [email protected]. Cedarbrake will also offer private retreats the weekends of July 22-24 and August 26-28. Eight bedrooms will be available for self-guided silent retreats. For more information call (254) 780-2436 or [email protected].
Activities at the Schoenstatt Shrine Summer Mass times at the shrine: On Sundays through Sunday, Sept. 4, the Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The regular Sun-day Mass time will return to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. Weekday Mass will continue every Wednesday at 7 a.m. Visit www.schoenstatt.us for more information or call (512) 330-0602.
Attention Future Longhorns Do you have a student who will be attending the University of Texas in Austin this fall? World Youth Day, Krakow 2016
Official Pilgrim Prayer
God, merciful Father, in your Son, Jesus Christ, you have revealed your love and poured it out upon us in the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, We entrust to you today the destiny of the world and of every man and woman. We entrust to you in a special way young people of every language, people and nation: guide and protect them as they walk the complex paths of the world today and give them the grace to reap abundant fruits from their experience of the Krakow World Youth Day. Heavenly Father, grant that we may bear witness to your mercy. Teach us how to convey the faith to those in doubt, hope to those who are discouraged, love to those who feel indifferent, forgiveness to those who have done wrong and joy to those who are unhappy. Allow the spark of merciful love that you have enkindled within us become a fire that can transform hearts and renew the face of the earth. Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for us. Saint John Paul II, pray for us. Saint Faustina, pray for us.
