How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning

Social climate

Parent, student and teacher satisfaction with the school

At St Finbarr’s we are continuing to develop both ICLT hardware/software resources and the processes with which they are used to assist learning. We currently have a bank of 14 laptops and 18 PCs for student use along with an additional 10 laptops for staff shared use. Each class within the school has a Flip HD compact digital video camera and a digital still camera. In addition to data projectors in the library and hall, interactive data projectors were installed in all classrooms prior to the commencement of the 2011 school year. Staff has been provided with a subscription to, and training on how to use Atomic Learning software. Atomic Learning is a web application which provides unlimited software support and instruction on how to use a comprehensive list of computer programs. To provide some widespread exposure to useful websites, staff has been inserviced from BCE on Web 2.0 sites.

The P&F motto, 'Working Together for the Benefit of Our Children', in many ways provides the impetus for the social climate of the school. Further this climate is blessed with a strong partnership between home and school, which has at its’ core, the children. This partnership by example and witness desires that each child's daily experience of school is not only life-long and life-giving learning but one that engages them with life; living, enjoying and celebrating the heart of gospel values. Celebrations such as Mothers’ Day & Grandparents' Masses nurture this strong sense of community. The buddy and pastoral care programs actively promote a climate of TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE. Assemblies and Prayer Gatherings which acknowledge His presence in the everyday further support an ethos that nurtures each child's sense of belonging and their self worth.

No formal gathering of parent and student satisfaction was undertaken in 2010. Parent feedback from P&F, School Board, Parish Priest, at P/T meetings have indicated a high level of satisfaction with the development of and subsequent collaborative work undertaken in line with the school's Renewal Plan.
