OUR MISSION STATEMENT
St. Mary's is a community of believers dedicated to the living worship of God. As the only Catholic Church in Limestone County, our faith community reflects the ethnic diversity of the towns in which we live. We gather to fulfill our mission as disciples of Jesus Christ: we hear His Word, we celebrate the Sacraments and we witness His love to others. Our Christian witness consists of sharing our spiritual gifts with the grace of God and the example and prayers of our patron saint, the Immaculate Conception, among us and with others - striving to grow in Holiness.

Catholic Social Teaching Corner
April 2-3, Second Sunday of Easter / Divine Mercy Sunday —In
the Gospel today Jesus greets his frightened and traumatized disciples
with this greeting: Peace! The readings today convey that profound
sense of peace that is the legacy of Jesus. This peace is not character-
ized by the absence of conflict, but rather, by a deep sense of well-
being that accompanies a lively faith. Can we bring this deep sense of
peace to those around us experiencing conflict? How can we be better
peacemakers in our world by centering ourselves more fully in Christ?
For the members of the Church, that the peace of Christ
would strengthen us to go out to the world and courageously
proclaim to all the mercy and love of God which overcomes
all barriers, we pray…

esfuerzo tan importante. Por favor, sean generosos en su apoyo
a esta causa tan digna.

Special Collection Today As the Diocese of Austin rapidly
continues to grow, we must ensure that we have an ample num-
ber of priests to celebrate the sacraments, preach God’s word
and guide us on our journey with Christ. Thus, to ensure our
priests are well-prepared, a man in formation pursues an educa-
tion in philosophy, theology and pastoral care. Seminarian edu-
cation and formation in the Diocese of Austin can take up to
nine years. We believe that financial impediments should never
prevent men from responding to God’s call to the priesthood.
Most financial support for priests and seminarians is made avail-
able from the Catholic Services Appeal and a Seminarian En-
dowment in the Catholic Foundation, but the needs are far
greater than our annual appeal can support. This special collec-
tion provides additional support for this very important effort.
Please be generous in your support of this most worthy cause.

The Apostolic Tradition
"Christ the Lord, in whom the entire Revelation of the most high God is summed up, com-
manded the apostles to preach the Gospel, which had been promised beforehand by the prophets, and
which he fulfilled in his own person and promulgated with his own lips. In preaching the Gospel, they
were to communicate the gifts of God to all men. This gospel was to be the source of all saving truth
and moral discipline." (Mat 28:19-20; Mark 16:15)
In keeping the Lord's command, the Gospel was handed on in two ways: orally "by the apostles
who handed on, by the spoken word of their preaching, by the example they gave, by the institutions
they established, what they themselves received - whether from the lips of Christ, from his way of life
and his works, or whether they had learned it at the prompting of the Holy Spirit." - in writing "by
those apostles and other men associated with the apostles who, under the inspiration of the same Holy
Spirit, committed the message of salvation to writing."
In order the full living Gospel might always be preserved in the Catholic Church the apostles
left bishops as their successors. They gave them their own position of teaching authority. Indeed, the
apostolic preaching, which is expressed in a special way in the inspired books, was to be preserved in
a continuous line of succession until the end of time.
This living transmission, accomplished in the Holy Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct
from Sacred Scripture, though closely connected to it. Through Tradition, the Catholic Church, in her
doctrine, life, and worship perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that
she believes. The saying of the holy Fathers are a witness to the life-giving presence of the Tradition,
showing how its riches are poured out in the practice and life of the Catholic Church, in her belief and
her prayer.
The Father's self-communication made through his Word in the Holy Spirit remains present
and active in the Catholic Church: "God, who spoke in the past, continues to converse with the spouse
of his beloved Son. And the Holy Spirit, through whom the living voice of the Gospels rings out in the
Catholic Church - and through her in the world - leads believers to the full truth, and makes the Word
of Christ dwell in them in all its richness." (Col 3:16)
