INTRODUCTION
The rising demand in bath and beauty products across the country and the growing
urbanization has resulted in growth of industry. Whereas the demand for luxury beauty
products has kept on increasing, the demand for bathing soaps has increased. This gave hope
to soap manufacturers to develop wide range of product across the country. Not only that,
people also resorted to green beauty products.
All these opportunities gave rise to companies doing R&D on developing green
products that are skin friendly and chemical free.

ELECTRONIC INDUSTRY IN INDIA
The government has identified electronics and IT hardware manufacturing as one of the thrust areas for
development. The industry constitutes less than 1% of the global market. However, demand for these
products is growing rapidly and investments are flowing in to augment manufacturing capacity.
India remains a major importer of electronic materials, components and finished equipment amounting to
around $20 billion (Rs 84,000 crore now) in 2007. The country imports electronic goods mainly from China
In the last four years, production of computers has grown at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of
31%, the highest among the various electronic products in India. This has been followed by communication
and broadcast equipment (25%), strategic electronics (20%) and industrial electronics (17%).
The consumer electronics segment, which has grown at a CAGR of 10% in the last five years, includes a
wide range of products such as DVD, VCD/MP3 players, television sets and microwave ovens.
The growth in demand for telecom products has been high, with India adding two million mobile phone
users every month, which is one of the main reasons for the growth in production of electronic goods. This
growth is expected to continue over the next decade, too.
The government has identified electronics and IT hardware manufacturing as one of the thrust areas for
development. A special incentive package scheme (SIPS) was announced in March 2007 to attract
investments for semiconductor fabrication and other micro and nanotechnology manufacturing industries in
India.
In the case of exports, the largest share was taken by electronic components, with 47% of total electronic
exports. Exports of electronic components have grown at a CAGR of 25% in the last five years.
Indias main destination for electronic goods is the US.
However with the rise in global warming across the globe, more and more companies have started to come
up with eco-friendly electronic products, which has some of these features
1) Low electricity consumption
2) Long life
3) Reduction in heat dissipated when the device is on
7/31/2019 Cere Report

4) Reduction in CO2 emissions and
5) No use of harmful metals in the manufacturing process of these products to name a few
Even India is taking steps for this specific purpose and is trying to make the people aware of the eco-friendly
electronic products and make it available to almost every nook and corner of the country.

CERE (THE CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION)
The Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CERE) is a Mumbai-based not-for-profit
organization that works to promote environmental sustainability through action-oriented education,
awareness and advocacy. CERE was established in 2002 by Dr. (Ms.) Rashneh N. Pardiwala, an ecologist
from the University of Edinburgh and Mrs. Kitayun Rustom, an environmental educationist. CERE has
successfully completed projects in both urban and rural India having worked closely with different
government departments, educational institutions, multinational companies and civil society organizations.
CERE is also a pioneer in the field of corporate sustainability and carbon management systems where they
help organisations map their carbon footprint, meet international reporting standards, implement low cost
carbon reductions strategies which ensure considerable financial savings and engage in staff awareness
activities.
CERE has been commissioned for projects by IndusInd Bank, Tata Capital Ltd, Hindustan Unilever
Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services, Rabo Bank, Tata Power and others. In 2005, both Dr. Pardiwala and Mrs.
Rustom were recognized as Social Entrepreneur for Change and awarded the international Ashoka
Fellowship. In 2009, Dr. Pardiwala was selected as one of Asias 21 Young Leaders and conferred the Asia
Society Fellowship in Japan.
FIELDS OF EXPERTISE
Carbon Footprint Mapping & Capping for companies Developing Educational Aides such as books, short films, presentations Undertaking Environmental Awareness Lectures & Seminars Conducting In-house Teacher Training Workshops on Environmental Education Consulting on Green Procurement & Supply Chains Developing E-Policy & Sustainability Reports
CARBON MAP & CAP INITIATIVE:
The Carbon Map & Cap Initiative has been designed by CERE keeping in mind that the project
must be initially piloted in one branch of a company and then be easily replicated by all branches across
India. The project is an independent, stand-alone model with inherent qualities to ensure flexibility so that itcan be adapted to site-specific situations and scaled up.

CERE will also help the company set-up an internal monitoring systems to ensure that every branch
and office is a part of the project and all the carbon data can be captured pan-India to determine the carbon
footprint of the entire organisation in the coming years.
CERE has been commissioned by companies such as IndusInd Bank and Tata Capital Ltd. to map
their carbon footprint and help cap their carbon emissions.
CERE's work with corporations in greening their business practices, process and supply chains and
the tangible results in terms of cost savings and carbon emission reductions is what led to the organisation of
the Carbon Map & Cap Conference on green and sustainable business practices within the atmosphere of
climate change mitigation.
TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP
CERE conducts Teacher Training Workshops on the following topics:
Environmental Education in ActionThis would cover the Why (Purpose), What (Content) and How (Method) of Environmental Education

school can become sustainable in all aspects of its working.
Climate Change EducationThis would explain the topic of Climate Change together with the mitigation strategies and how these could
be implemented in schools.
Art and Craft with WasteAn excellent program that would lead schools to working at resource conservation and help schools use

The Art & Craft from Waste project gets school children in Mumbai to explore and use a range of
waste materials within their art-n-craft classes, by developing new and easy-to-adopt ideas and techniques.
This will make children aware of the environmental problems caused by garbage and how they can be a part
of the solution, by looking at waste as a cheap resource to be used meaningfully. After the project finishes, a
Handbook on Art-n-Craft from Waste will be published, to ensure that the work carried out in this project
can reach a wider audience of teachers and students throughout Mumbai and India .The Art & Craft from
