Non-Profit UpdateThere are several requirements for an organization to obtain 501(c)(3) status. Our nonprofit committee continues to work behind the scene in an effort to establish Albemarle Emmaus as a qualified nonprofit community. AE has always been a notforprofit organization, and taking the steps toward nonprofit and taxexempt status from the Internal Revenue Service will enable us to accept taxdeductible donations. Some of the steps necessary have been in place since AE was formed; such as adopting ByLaws and being governed by a Board of Directors. Recently we were reorganized as a corporation. Most of the changes will not affect the way we operate as a community. There is, however, still plenty to be done and the Board will continue to work on this project until completed. We hope to have more information soon.

Community Lay Director Comments
On behalf of the Board I want to thank everyone for all the support we have received this year. We have spoken so often that the highlights of our year have been the privilege of sitting at Closings and hearing those of you who have been Pilgrims share how God has spoken to you, what you have received from the Walks, and how you intend to go back into your homes, workplaces, churches and communities and share God’s love with others. Thank you for allowing each of us to serve God and you on this Board.
I am so excited about the new folks coming onto the Board and about our Officers for the upcoming year who have so willingly accepted the responsibilities to lead this Community. We welcome Jessica Lynam as our new Community Lay Director, Vernon Lee as the Assistant Community Lay Director, Philip Ruckle as Secretary and Mary Stoll as Treasurer. I know we do not even have to ask that you be in prayer for our Board and Community this coming year, because we are a Community of Prayer Warriors.
As it was for John Wesley, Mother Teresa, and the disciples on the road to Emmaus, it is for us. We are converted and convinced, not by intellectual arguments and head knowledge, but by the presence of the living God through his lifechanging Holy Spirit. He transforms our way of thinking and pattern of living. He puts within us a new passion to know Him and to make Him known. I thank God for the Walk to Emmaus and the life changing affects that have occurred in our lives, the lives of our families, and the lives in our churches and communities.
“’Tis done, the great transaction’s done—I am my Lord’s and He is mine;” (From the hymn, “O Happy Day”).

Community Prayer RequestsCommunity Prayer RequestsPlease Note: When listing prayers at Gathering please take your time and PRINT neatly. Each month one or more request
must be omitted due to illegible handwriting. These prayers are offered as a ministry to the Albemarle Emmaus Community. Concerns are listed for Community PRAYER, not so we can pry into the lives of others. Not everyone wants intimate details of their life made public even if we are praying for them so please, before adding to any prayer list, verify that someone wants to be on the list. The listing of any prayer request does not imply an endorsement of nor commentary on the beliefs of any writer. We do, however, reserve the right to edit requests, or withhold distribution all together, if deemed necessary. Pray as you feel led.

Why Support Kairos? KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY INTERNATIONAL, INC. ministers to Incarcerated Men, Women, Youth and Women in the community impacted by their incarceration. Here are the facts:
At least 95% of all incarcerated men, women and youth are ultimately released. Most move back into the community. The success of these individuals is greatly multiplied
when: 1) they have a religious experience while incarcerated. 2) they have family support while incarcerated and upon
release. 3) the family is the first line of defense 4) upon release from prison they find a meaningful job.
Need more facts ? Then here are a few more things to think about:
➔➔ Kairos ministers to 25,000 incarcerated men, women, youth and women in the community impacted by their ➔➔ incarceration. ➔➔ if exoffenders do not go back to prison we are all safer, we save an incredible amount of money and the community ➔➔ is healthier! ➔➔ recent studies indicate that Kairos prison ministry reduces the recidivism (return to prison rate) by 70%. ➔➔ this 70% reduction saves taxpayers millions of dollars every year. ➔➔ Kairos fosters Christian community in adult male and female prisons; ➔➔ Kairos torch mentoring ministry helps the youthful offender end their criminal cycle ➔➔ Kairos outside supports women who are influential in the lives of incarcerated men, women and youth.
Christ challenges us: “Matthew 25.... I was in prison and you visited me” What are you willing to do in the Christ centered ministry of Kairos?
