Prayer of Pope Francis for
Protection and Help
O Mary, You always shine on our path as a sign of
salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You…know what we need, and we are sure You
will provide, so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon Himself our suf-
ferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.
Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of
those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly
Fourth Sunday of Easter
May 3, 2020
“Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apos-tles, ‘What are we to do, my brothers?’ Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the for-giveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” It is exciting to read the sermons of Peter and Paul in the Acts of the Apostles. They call our attention to the fundamental teaching of Jesus’ dying and rising for the love of us. When was the last time the words of a preacher, a spiritual book or magazine, or a con-versation with a friend or teacher led you to ask ‘What am I to do?’ If I follow the teaching of Peter, I will become more aware of the gift of the promised Spirit to form and transform my life. We are told not to stifle the Spirit, yet sometimes we do a good job at it. We have been baptized, but can always do more in the area of re-pentance. What am I going to do?
I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. This can be done ei-ther as a group or individually; you can de-cide according to your own situations, mak-ing the most of both opportunities…...

Prayer for a Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.
May those who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or
making their rent. May those who have the flexibility to care for our children when
schools close remember those who have no options. May we who have to cancel a trip remember those who have no
safe place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all. May those who settle for quarantine at home remember those
who have no home. As fear grips our country, let us choose love during this time
when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us find ways to be the loving embrace to God and our
neighbor.

The days and months ahead may be inconvenient or may turn out to be really trying. Whatever comes our way, this is a time to practice our faith that we are united as one body in Christ, that we are invited to uphold each other in prayer, and that we are called to be
present to each other either through listening or through reaching out. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assisting in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fiscally sound. During this time of having to cancel Masses be-cause of the coronavirus, you may drop-off your collection envelopes in the mail slot of the Parish House or mail them to 32 St. James Place, Totowa, 07512. Everyone’s envelopes assist in the health and prosperity of our parish. We thank you for your continued generosity and kindness to St. James. Stay safe and healthy!
