June 3, 2018Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (B)
Ex 24:3–8; Heb 9:11–15; Mk 14:12–16, 22–26A beautiful painting by Giovanni Bellini shows the great
care and reverence with which Joseph, Nicodemus, andMary Magdalene place the body of Christ in the tomb. Yetit is also a symbol of the delicacy and devotion with whichwe should receive Jesus, who comes down to us on thealtar at Mass.
His Body and Blood were shed to create a NewCovenant, a new pact of love between God and people. Inthe Old Testament, God ordered that the blood of sacri-ficed animals be sprinkled on the people as a way to seala pact with him, thus gaining forgiveness of their sins. Asif to say, may I be as this calf or goat if I ever fail to obeyand live up to your commands.
In the New Covenant, God sent his own Son to be thesacrificial victim to seal our covenant of love with the Fa-ther. Before the blood was sprinkled, we consume hisBody and Blood in the Eucharist as Jesus commanded:Do this in memory of me. Take this, all of you, and eat.Take this, all of you, and drink. If goat blood could expressa covenant in the Old Testament, how much more power-ful to unite us with God is the blood of his only begottenSon! How much more powerful to forgive us and commu-nicate Godʼs overpowering love!
Jesus lays down his life sacramentally again in thisMass. Let us receive his Body and Blood with purity anddevotion, aware of the amazing gift and the miracle thathappens in our presence.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of
Christ (Corpus Christi)
June 3, 2018
Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day:
“This is my body,” we hear in today’s Gospel. “This is my
blood.” When we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, the sac-
rifice Jesus made of his own body and blood, the sacrifice
we are all invited to share, we receive the Body and Blood
that are truly Christ’s own. Then nourished by his Body and
Blood, we are called to go forth as the body of Christ, carry-
ing forward his mission in the world today.

Is God calling you? Do you want to learn more about the Catholic Faith? Are you interested in becoming part of our Catholic family?
The RCIA Process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process by which those interested in becoming a Roman Catholic Christian learn about our faith. Through interviews, classes and discussions, adults are prepared to accept the challenge of our baptism and encouraged to live the message and teachings of Jesus Christ. The RCIA process is also for those Catholics who have not been educated in our faith and have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion. If you, or some one you know is interested in determining if God is calling you to be part of our faith community, please contact the Rectory office at 718-335-2626 to set up an appointment with one of our Priests.
