Carto3 Biosense - 3D Mapping and Ablation to save a life
The patient, 55-year-old gentleman had a massive heart attack 12 years ago. In 2003 an angioplasty had been performed to LAD. Progressive LV dysfunction (LVEF 25%) resulted in heart failure worsened by life-threatening episodes of ventricular tachycardia (VT).
In 2008, Dr. Ajay Naik performed a Coronary Angiography (revealing patent LAD). Thereafter, a CRT-D (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy + Defibrillator) was implanted. The CRT (biventricular pacing) component improved his LV function and HF symptoms considerably over 2 years.
In the past 1 month, the VT started occurring more frequently resulting in frequent ATP therapy despite multiple antiarrhythmic medications. The only way to control this problem was by a remarkable new way of treatment Carto3 Biosense 3-dimensional mapping system, now available at CIMS -- the only center in Western India to have this cutting-edge technology.
With the help of the Carto3 Biosense system, a 3-dimensional geometry of his heart was created in the Cath Lab. The diseased heart tissue, scars of old MI and the abnormal electrical circuits in the ventricle that produced VT were identified. Dr. Ajay Naik then proceeded to perform a Irrigation tip Radiofrequency Ablation ("Thermocool") to treat this problem. This 3 hour procedure provided a new lease of life to the patient. Visiting electrophysiologist Dr. Eugene Downer from Toronto, Canada was extremely impressed and pleased with the procedure.
The Carto3 Biosense 3-D mapping system is now available in CIMS for the first time in Western India. With this system it is possible to treat and cure many complex arrhythmias (VT, Atypical flutters, Atrial fibrillation, ectopic atrial and ventricular tachycardias) that are difficult to tackle with the conventional system.
The patient continues to be on lifelong medications for the CAD. However, he is now relatively free from frequent palpitations and symptoms related to the life-threatening VT.
Dear all,
We would like to thank you all for the tremendous response to the Inauguration of our hospital on November 21.
Shri Jay Narayan Vyas, Minister of Health and Tourism, Govt of Gujarat and Shri Asit Vora , Mayor-Ahmedabad graced us with their presence and marked an auspicious beginning to the day and of course to our institution.
CIMS has been specifically set up to deliver to world-class health services to all patients and to create a working atmosphere wherein a doctor enjoys his profession and is at ease about his patient's welfare.
The entire team of CIMS is driven with this purpose to set benchmarks in patient care and professional satisfaction.
As promised earlier, we have commenced Public Health Awareness lectures in the CIMS Auditorium on a daily basis to educate the general public.
On November 17, Dr. Alfredo Galassi (Italy), had an extremely successful CTO workshop in the CIMS Cath Lab and along with CIMS team treated several cases.
We were honoured to host Dr. Navin Nanda, the world pioneer of echocardiography for a live workshop at the CIMS Auditorium on Echocardiography.
CIMS Onco surgery has commenced with a great success rate and we are proud to have the medical fraternity support it.
CIMS Sleep Lab is the most sophisticated one in Gujarat and holds high promise for all pulmonologists to treat their patients here.
And of course, the CARTO 3 system (only one in Western India) is working wonders for our Electrophysiology patients.
For further communications, write to us on the hospital address or email on .
Sincerely,
CIMS Team
