85% of students supported with 1:1 or small group tutoring from a corps member showed academic improvement.
77% of middle school students failing English at the start of the year were passing by the end of the year.
Students who received at least one month of City Year attendance monitoring achieved an average daily attendance rate of nearly 92% for the year.
City Year Louisiana hosted six large-scale service projects, engaging 1,017 community members, corporate sponsors and students in over 6,461 hours of community service.
More than one million students - one every 26 seconds - give up on school each year. Fifty percent of those dropouts come from just 12 percent of schools. City Year corps members choose to serve where the need is greatest. Of the 189 schools we serve nationwide, three quarters are among the lowest performing five percent in their state.
Forty corps members at City Year Baton Rouge are making a difference in four of the city’s highest need schools. Research shows that students at risk of dropping out can be identified as early as sixth grade by three early warning indicators – poor attendance, disruptive behavior and course failure in math and English. Our model Whole School Whole Child is based on that research, and corps members work with students identified as at risk. City Year corps members provide:
Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before, during and after school
Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead energetic morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls home and lead mentor groups
Community and School Improvements: Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the community and school environment
40 corps members serve in 4 Baton Rouge schools:
• Belaire High School• Broadmoor Middle School• Capitol Middle School• Merrydale Elementary School

More than one million students drop out of school each year. Dropouts are more likely to be unemployed and incarcerated. City Year Boston is a priority partner of the Boston Public Schools (BPS) to increase learning time, prevent students from dropping out and help them to succeed academically. Through our partnership with BPS, 177 City Year Boston corps members are serving in 14 Boston schools this year and will expand next year to serve 25% of off-track students. Using City Year’s research-based Whole School Whole Child service model, corps members focus on students who exhibit the three early warning indicators - poor attendance, unsatisfactory behavior, or course failure in English or math - identified by John Hopkins University as characteristics of students who are most at risk of dropping out. Corps members support students and schools with:
Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before, during and after school
Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead energetic morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls home and lead mentor groups
Community and School Improvements: Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the community and school environment

Over the next four years, City Year New Orleans seeks to reach 5,320 students in 10 schools, providing targeted interventions for 1,700 off-track students.
More than one million students - one every 26 seconds - gives up on school each year. Fifty percent of those dropouts come from just 12 percent of schools. City Year corps members choose to serve where the need is greatest. Of the 189 schools we serve nationwide, three quarters are among the lowest performing five percent in their state.
Thirty-one corps members at City Year New Orleans are making a difference in three of New Orleans’ highest need schools.
31 corps members serve in 3 New Orleans schools:
• Reed Elementary School• ReNew Accelerated High School• Sarah T. Reed High School

100% of principals were satisfied with the quality of service and overall experience of working with City Year.
87% of students who received behavior coaching from City Year corps members demonstrated an improvement in behavior.
90% of elementary school students in grades 3-5 who received City Year literacy tutoring improved their performance on literacy assessments.
Fifty-three corps members at City Year San José/Silicon Valley are making a difference in five of the area’s highest need schools.
55 corps members serve in 5 San José schools:
• Cesar Chavez Elementary School• Horace Cureton Elementary School• Anthony Dorsa Elementary School• Mildred Goss Elementary School• Lee Mathson Middle School
