• We will do math in almost every area we study.
• Too many students don’t even try • You must have basic math skills to
succeed in life• You will do lots of practical math!

• Help you prepare for life after high school• Emphasis on real skills – not wordfinds• Treated respectfully & fairly• Occasional mistakes
– I will fix them if you let me know (nicely)• An enjoyable class• Maximize learning opportunities• Get out and do things – 90 minutes is too long to sit at a
desk

• Respect yourselves and others.• Participate to the best of your ability• Strong work ethic
– If you don’t like to work, drop the class• No Whining – just do your work• Know when to stop playing and get to
work• This class is NOT RECESS!!!!!
Work ethic
• Everybody should feel a moral obligation to contribute to the class efforts.
• NEVER stand back and watch someone work.
• The ATTITUDE of working hard will bring success.
• I HATE LAZINESS!!!!!
Grades
• Quizzes 25% • Daily Grade – work ethic 35% • Projects – 1 per qtr 25% • Notebook 15%
• Exam counts 10% of the semester grade• Quiz most Fridays with terms, current events &
weekly activities. • Open notebook.
What can You expect for grades
• Very few A’s• If you do a good job – that is a B• If you do okay - get C’s – Average• If you only do the bare minimum with a lot
of nagging, you will get a D• If you sleep through class, don’t work,
don’t complete your notebook, you will get an F
Grades
• If you will not work, you will not pass• If you can’t stop playing long enough to
get your work done, you will not pass• If you hide from work, you will not pass• If you miss class and don’t make it up, you
will not pass• YOU are responsible for getting your work
done
Class Supplies
• 3 ring binder w/ dividers• Pen or pencils• Dress to go outside
–Your shoes will get dirty!
Safety
• Safety Tests- must get a 100% before participation– Lots of safety tests– More as required
• No horse-play• Dress to work
Computer & Internet Use
• Great resource for research & staying current
• Learn to integrate technology in all work• No recreational use during class time

• What is a wiki?
After this lesson,

Two Parts
1. Sign up for wiki access (8 steps)– Only need to do one time: TODAY
2. Log onto the wiki and post to the site (7 steps):
1. Turn in assignments2. Work on projects3. Get notes from any days of school that you
miss
Sign up for wiki access
1. You need an email address and password
– Sign up for one at www.gmail.com if you don’t have one.
2. Go to the FHS Horticulture Wiki Site:– www.fhshort.pbwiki.com
Access the page
3. Click on the “Log in” button4. Click on request access
Complete the request
5. Enter your e-mail address, confirm the letter, leave the message blank, and select “Send to Administrator” (Me)
Check your email
• I will confirm you as an authorized user and send you a logon link.
6. Check your email, you will get an email from PB Works
Confirm your log in
7. Click on the link in the email8. Enter your email address and select a
password
• Now you have access to the Wiki site and are ready to make posts
Log on to the Site
• 9. Go to the login page, enter your email address and password
• 10. Making sure that remember me is NOT selected , click log in

• 11. Click on the “Wiki Practice Page” and read the assignment

• Your may need to share – Help each other:• Go to the FHSHORT.PBWORKS site and
request access– After you get your confirmation email, log on to
the site and edit the practice page.• After you have completed the assignment,
let someone else use the computer.• Help each other!
Extra details
• I will know when you make changes to the site– I get an email from PBWorks
• Only one person can edit the site at a time• Students will have at least one
collaborative project per quarter.• We will add to the capabilities of the site
as the term progresses.

Agriculture Co-ops
• A co-op gives students the opportunity to work for pay and earn school credit at the same time.
• Only open to 11 and 12 grades• Great option if you have met all of the
requirements except Gov’t & English.• Get real world job experience• Does not negatively impact your college
plans.
