Classic Marque
Classic Marque is the official magazine of the Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia.
The magazine is produced calendar monthly with the exception of January.
The Deadline for all copy is the last Tuesday of each month.
The Editor reserves the right to accept, reject or modify content submitted for publication.
The opinions/views expressed in published articles are wholly those of the respective authors, and are not necessarily those of Jaguar, the Editor, the Club, or the Members.
Advertisers and sponsors who place advertisements in the magazine do so because they value their association with the JDCSA. Placement of these advertisements should not necessarily be taken to mean the club endorses the services offered.
Cover Story
Our cover this month depicts Ray Thomas’s Mark 2. The photo was taken by an unknown photographer during the 2013 Bay to Birdwood.

3 The Official Monthly Magazine of the Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia
December is nearly here and Christmas is just around the corner. I am sure the year goes by faster each year we get older.
We have had a very successful year with both our Annual Dinner and SA Jag Day having the biggest numbers for years. We also had a huge turnout for the “Climb to the Eagle” even though the weather tried to deter some with a 40 degree day.
Our membership has continued to grow largely thanks to our members working together to put on runs and functions during the year. We have a membership age spanning probably 70 years which would be fairly unique in a club these days. This diverse range is what gives us the knowledge, the enthusiasm and camaraderie that keeps us growing.
We had news last week that Onslow Billinghurst, one of our Vehicle Inspectors, had a tractor accident on his property. He was in a critical condition for several days but in Onslow’s usual manner he is strong willed and is fighting back to be back in the Jag. Our thoughts and support are with Onslow and Wendy during the long road back to good health.
Our Club Calendar should be distributed at the Christmas General Meeting which is being hosted by the Compact Register. Please come along and join us for Dinner from 6pm or join us for the meeting from 7.45pm which will include entertainment, Peoples Choice Presentation and supper.
I wish everyone a safe and prosperous Christmas and New Year and I also hope Santa puts that F Type by my tree.
Forever hopeful Di Adamson President JDCSA

Editorial
Sue and I recently returned from an interstate trip to NSW. We both have elderly mums in their nineties, my mum in Tamworth and Sue’s mum in Sydney. Our custom is approximately every 4 months to fly to Tamworth for a few days then back to Sydney for a few days and then home. We hire a car while their and seek to do battle with Sydney roads and traffic, which is the point of this editorial.
Sydney traffic is horrific! But is made tolerable by the attitude and courtesy of (most) Sydney drivers. Every time we go to Sydney we comment on the courtesy of drivers compared with the ignorance and arrogance of native South Australian drivers.
If you signal to change lanes, drivers will actually let you in. When you are in a merging lane drivers understand how merging lanes are supposed to work with a “zipper” effect. The result is seamless for all concerned. Their seems to be no resentment about “pushing in”, everyone understands that we all need to “push-in” if we are to get to where we need to go.
There are three simple rules that if applied seriously in Adelaide would improve our driving experience considerably. They may even be described as common courtesy.
1. When a driver signals their intention / wish to change lanes, back off and let them in.
2. If two lanes of traffic are merging, give way enough to allow the “zipper” principle to work.
3. Where possible do not block intersections when stopping in a line of traffic.
Now when my wife reads this editorial I know full well what she will say, something like “Practice what you preach!”. Maybe courtesy is contagious and I will be a better and more courteous driver as a result of these experiences. I guess others will be the judge.
Classic Marque 2015
This is the last Magazine for 2014. I wish to thank all members who have made a contribution during the year, it makes my job so much easier.
There will be no magazine in January, so the first edition for 2015 will be February, with a deadline for copy being Tuesday January 27th.
Once again I am requesting the submission of articles, photos, register reports and in particular ‘Member’s Pride’ articles for next year. Register Secretaries are requested to ensure I get at least a couple of submissions from your register for next year. A brief story about your Jaguar experience and a couple of photos is all it takes to be famous.
Editorial Assistance
I don’t think this request during the year has been treated seriously. This could well be my last year as Editor of the magazine, so lets see what we can do about encouraging someone to prepare to take up the reins in the future.
So for now, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas Season and a very fulfilling New Year! May all your Jaguar wishes come true!

WILL YOU RISK A
HEAVY FINE AND
CANCELLATION OF YOUR
HISTORIC REGISTRATION?
Inspection requirements for Historic Registrations have changed as most will be well aware.
It is now the owners responsibility to have their historically registered vehicle inspected every three years in addition to the signing of a Statutory Declaration annually.
This means that by June 2015 you do need to have your vehicle inspected by one of the club’s authorised inspectors.
The inspector will sign your log book to indicate that you have complied with this requirement.
This is a very simple inspection and can be done at regular club outings by arrangement with one of our authorised inspectors. Each Register has appointed inspectors and a
list is supplied below for your convenience.
It will be helpful if this is not left to the last minute putting extra burden on our willing inspectors.

on R models and an option on S models, an available six-speed manual transmission available on Rear-Wheel Drive V6-powered models, and Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS)
1. The fundamentals remain true to core DNA of Jag-
uar vehicles: lightweight construction, refined power, perfect proportions and outstanding design.
"Our target with engineering the all-wheel drive F-TYPE was to maintain that engaging rear-drive character that's so im-portant to Jaguar sports car DNA, and offer even greater dynamic capability. With the manual transmission option for the V6-powered F-TYPE models, we've gone to intricate lengths to engineer a very precise, technical and responsive level of interaction between the driver, the clutch and the transmission shift mechanism. It's one for the driving purists - and I count myself as one of them." - Ian Hoban, Vehicle
Line Director, Jaguar
The enhancements broaden the F-TYPE range, from a su-percharged V6 driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox, to the 550hp F-TYPE R Coupe and Convertible with the supercharged V8, AWD and eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission. Transmitting the V8's 502lb-ft of torque to the road though all wheels helps the R models to accelerate from zero to 60mph in just 3.9 seconds on the way to a maximum track speed of 186mph
2.
While the Jaguar eight-speed automatic transmission offers an excellent blend of shift speed, comfort and refinement, there will always be a select group of enthusiasts who want the satisfaction which comes from changing gear manually. To meet that demand a six-speed manual transmission is now exclusively available for the V6 and rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration. The car features a short-throw gear lever with a travel of only 1.77-inches (45mm), closely-spaced ratios, and pedals well placed for heel-and-toe changes.
The F-TYPE becomes the first Jaguar sports car to use Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS). Years of develop-ment ensure that the technology is now mature enough to deliver the expected response and feel. This electric system provides power assistance only when needed, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Those seeking the ultimate in top down performance will now find it in the new F-TYPE R Convertible, with standard AWD and 550hp, which replaces the RWD-only 495hp F-TYPE V8 S. A 5.0-liter V8 combines direct injection and a twin-vortex supercharger to provide immediate response to the driver. With the top down on an open road, this engine's unmistakable soundtrack is exhilarating.
Developing 550hp and 502lb-ft of torque, the all-alloy quad-cam engine in the R Coupe and Convertible is matched ex-clusively to the QuickShift automatic transmission and All-Wheel Drive. The extra traction of AWD enables the R Con-vertible to accelerate from 0-60 mph in only 3.9 seconds - matching the R Coupe - up to an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph
2.
The new 2016 model year F-TYPE Coupe and Convertible range will consist of: F-TYPE (340hp, rear wheel drive with automatic or manual), F-TYPE S Coupe (380hp automatic with RWD or AWD, or manual with rear-wheel drive), and F-TYPE R (550hp automatic with AWD).

THE CATS GIGGLE The child and his mother:
A curious child asked his mother: “Mommy, why are some of your hairs turning grey?”
The mother tried to use this occasion to teach her child: “It is because of you, dear. Every bad action of yours will turn one of my hairs grey!”
The child replied innocently: “Now I know why grandmother has only grey hairs on her head.”
Wrong email address:
A couple going on vacation but his wife was on a business trip so he went to the destination first and his wife would meet him the next day.
When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.
Unfortunately, when typing her address, he mistyped a let-ter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preach-er’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here.
Will’s experience at the airport:
After his return from Rome, Will couldn’t find his luggage in the airport baggage area. He went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that his bags hadn’t shown up on the carousel.
She smiled and told him not to worry because they were trained profession-als and he was in good hands.
Then she asked Will, “Has your plane arrived yet?”
Clever kids:
A police officer found a perfect hiding place for watching for speeding motorists.
One day, the officer was amazed when everyone was under the speed limit, so he investigated and found the problem.
A 10 years old boy was standing on the side of the road with a huge hand painted sign which said “Radar Trap Ahead.”
A little more investigative work led the officer to the boy’s accomplice: another boy about 100 yards beyond the radar trap with a sign reading “TIPS” and a bucket at his feet full of change.

SS REGISTER BORDER RUN TO LOXTON 31
st OCT to 3
rd NOV
( Clayton’s 40th – similar to our Clayton’s 21
st)
From the Desk of Register President Bruce Fletcher [with Ann’s help]
DAY 1:
The weekend started with 3 separate groups from the South, Centre and North meeting up at Swan Reach for a picnic lunch, Marg & Don Evans, Jean & Jack Richardson, Lorraine & Jim Temby, Betty & Ross Gogler and Dorothy & Graham Butler. After lunch we crossed the river and were joined by Julie & Marshall Scott for a very hot and windy drive to Loxton. Unfortunately two MKV’s failed to proceed past Chain of Ponds, both returned home, one repaired and one replaced for a modern car.
After settling in to the Motel/Hotel/Caravan Park we were off to meet up with the rest of our group and the Victorians for registration where we received a “Run Pack” which included a DVD produced by Ross and Jan Rasmus of videos and photos of previous runs.
DAY 2:
After brekky we had a display of our cars in the Town Centre car park, kindly organised by the Council. While the men enjoyed showing off their cars the ladies were treated to a fashion parade put on by a dress boutique (Lami Saru) in the main street. All the ladies that attended enjoyed the informal show and quite a few bought something. Well done Margaret Kretschmer for the suggestion.
We were then off to Banrock Station Winery for a wine tasting and lunch which was most enjoyable sitting out on the decking.
The afternoon was free time which saw most of us just keep chatting over another glass of wine or coffee before heading back (some for a Papa nap) to get ready for the evening meal. We had the dining room all to ourselves, Bob and Judy Lynch were in charge of entertainment, diplomatic as usual, everyone got a prize for doing the ‘Find-a-word ’puzzle.
DAY 3:
Another enjoyable day, out to the Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery for lunch then to the Ruston’s Rose Garden and Car Museum in Renmark for coffee and cake. Ross led Ann up the ‘garden path’ which turned out to be someone’s private garden that butts on to the Rose Garden, it was so funny as they kept taking a path that they thought would take them back but they were all dead ends. Eventually
they found their way having thoroughly enjoyed the people’s garden.
After returning to Loxton we gathered for “Happy Hour” before gathering for our last dinner once again held in a private dining room which enabled us to enjoy our usual entertainment of funny stories – this time supplied by Margaret Kretschmer and Bob McGrath compared by the Lynch duo.
The Perpetual Trophy (Jag Nut) was presented to Elizabeth Bell by Bob Kretschmer who was the convener of the weekend, for her excellent production of photographs of past runs in a Book form, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
DAY 4:
Monday had the usual farewells after a very successful weekend. All looking forward to the next one whichwill be organised by the Victorians.
Bruce & Ann Fletcher
From the Desk of One who has done it all before, Ross Rasmus-
It was a great weekend, especially for our cars!!!!!!!!!!
There was a Jaguar Mk V DHC that just made it up the first hill, before returning to the plains. Really I wanted to look after Jan and travel in an air-conditioned car!!!! Then there was the blue Jaguar Mk V that only lasted a couple of hundred meters more, before it too returned to the plains, only to have it's nervous system adjusted to correct the connection between the engine and wheels.
Another Jaguar Mk V driver was getting high on petrol fumes!!!!!!!!! Another Jaguar Mk V, green this time incontinence!!! suffered Had to stop regularly on the way home for signs of leakage!!!!
There was a cream Mk IV which required tender loving care to make her puRRRRRR properly!!
A black Mk IV so close to home, did not want to be different to the other Jaguars, went home on a truck.
There was a blue Jaguar, which did not want to go home, well not for four hours, must have liked the scenery at Swan Reach!!!!!!!!
Did the little BURST of POWER on Sunday contribute to this problem.
A dark blue Mk 1V needed a coffee stop at Angaston!!!!!
Nothing has been said about a little red Porsche, so we believe she had no trouble. How could it better the Naracoorte weekend.
A Jaguar MKII was so tried it had to be trailered the last few Kilo metres home (granted it was an extra 640 kms) The little grey SS whizzed up to Loxton & whizzed home again, no oil, water nor tools required.
There was a modern Jaguar that had no trouble because it went so fast.
A Red Jaguar was seen in front of a cloud of dust heading for Adelaide
The white Jaguar XJ purred the whole weekend chauffeuring the owners of the blue Jaguar that was not there. Pretty good you might say when the oil pressure gauge read "0"
The Holden--------------say no more
There was an S Type seen at the Loxton Motel on Monday
19 The Official Monthly Magazine of the Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia
morning with a large puddle of water near boot, perhaps relieving itself before the long trip interstate!!

Disconnected Jottings-
Having the BBQ on the first night worked well as a close & central gathering place which was also successful for the morning Run Briefings & Happy-Hour each evening.
Marg & I hoped you liked the local produce in the Rally Packs, there was so much from which to choose.
I tried several times to engage with the local Vehicle Restorers Club based at Renmark without success.
It was most helpful to be able to work through Nik Ciracovic for distributing all my messages to the Victorian members.
Thank you to Club Treasurer Tim White for advice & help re the finances.
The Run Folder included a copy of the Original SS Register Meeting 18.4.74 plus a copy of the Swan Hill ‘The Guardian’ 3 Sept.1975 being a write-up of the First Border Run.
Echoing Bruce’s comments that Elisabeth Bell’s draft photograph manual of all past Border Runs is a work to be admired. Keith announced that once new comments have been included a final Document will be made available to members at a cost TBA
Julie Holbery’s photograph collection was also of considerable interest & she is to be thanked for proposing the idea of taking past memories for display.
Not to be out-done Ross & Jan Rasmus produced & inserted into the Rally bags a DVD of Border Runs since 1991. Thank you Ross & Jan

We have just updated to a Series 3 & now need to sell our Regency Red Series 2 as seen in this year’s Club Calendar (June) as we can’t fit 3 cars & caravan in our yard.
We have had the car for 18 years & are the third owners. The transmission was rebuilt 80,000km ago & the engine 11,000km. The leather interior is in good condition as too the walnut dash. The car needs a tidy up but as can be seen in the photos below looks pretty good & drives well. The car was seen on many Club Runs in the past but not in recent times due to other commitments.

Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe Named 2015 Sports Car of the Year by Autoguide.com
November 19, 2014 - Jaguar is proud to announce that the 2015 F-TYPE Coupe was awarded
AutoGuide.com's Reader's Choice Sports Car of the Year award.
"Winning AutoGuide.com Reader's Choice Sports Car of the Year award is a fantastic honor for the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe," said Kim McCullough, Vice President of Marketing, Jaguar Land Rover North America. "This award builds upon the excitement of the F-TYPE since it came to market, and adds to the momentum of the Jaguar brand. We are very excited to be receiving this award here today at the LA Auto Show."
AutoGuide.com polled its readers and their 30 million members of AutoGuide Group forums, and asked them to voice their opinion on which new car they felt was the best. The AutoGuide.com awards recognize seven vehicle
categories.
"Nothing else on the market comes with the power, style and sound of the F-TYPE for anywhere near this money," said Road Test Editor Mike Schlee. "It's one of those cars that garners as much attention parked as it does driving down the road. The F-TYPE, especially in R Coupe form, is destined to be a future classic."
The Jaguar F-TYPE represents a return to the company's heart: a two-seat, sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement. The all-aluminum 2015 F-TYPE Coupe, including the first F-TYPE R model, expands the Jaguar sports car lineup starting at $65,000
1. The F-
TYPE Coupe joins the F-TYPE Convertible introduced last year, giving Jaguar one of the widest choices of sports car models available in the market today. The new F-TYPE R Coupe leads the range, powered by a 550hp 5-liter supercharged V8 engine and capable of reaching 60 mph from rest in 4 seconds and achieving a top track speed of 186 mph (electronically limited)
2.
An official awards presentation will take place at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in addition a 2016 model year F-TYPE model range announcement.

Jaguar Supports Bloodhound SSC Record Bid Jaguar provides further detail on an innovative part-nership with British World Land Speed Record Team targeting 1,000mph in 2016
Jaguar will be at the heart of Bloodhound SSC providing its 5.0-litre 550PS supercharged V8 engine to provide hydraulic services to the car and drive the rock-et's oxidiser pump
Jaguar will develop a series of innovative, techno-logical solutions in consultation with driver Andy Green in and around the cockpit design
Jaguar to provide bespoke Rapid Response Vehicles during the World Land Speed Record attempt in 2015 and 1,000mph attempt in 2016
Los Angeles, 19 November: Today, Jaguar revealed fur-ther details about the new partnership with the Bloodhound World Land Speed Record project following the significant high-speed test in South Africa earlier in the month, which marked the start of a major technical partnership between Jaguar and Bloodhound
The test took place on the relatively soft surface of the Hakskeen Pan desert in the Northern Cape of South Africa, where the dynamic ability of the new all-wheel drive F-TYPE R Coupé - making its global motor show debut today in Los Angeles - enabled the successful completion of a vital com-munications test for the Bloodhound SSC team.
Jaguar is perfectly positioned to provide key technical knowledge and engineering innovation, resulting in direct performance benefits to the Bloodhound programme. As a 'Main Partner' and 'Innovation Partner', Jaguar will assist Bloodhound in raising the World Land Speed Record above 1,000mph, as well as helping to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, which is the overall objective of the project. The current record stands at 763.035mph and was set by Andy Green in Thrust SSC in 1997. As driver of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car, Andy Green will once again look to push the boundaries of human achievement when he attempts to break the record in 2015 and achieve in excess of 1000mph in 2016.
On the Jaguar stand at the LA Auto Show today Andy Green revealed further details of the partnership including the integration of the Jaguar engine into Bloodhound SSC. Jaguar's 5.0-litre 550PS supercharged V8 engine will play a key role in the running of the car providing essential hydraulic ser-vices and also driving the rocket's oxidiser pump. This pump will supply 800-litres of High Test Peroxide (HTP) to the rocket in just 20 seconds - equivalent to 40-litres (over nine gallons) - every second.
Jaguar is also assisting in the development of Andy Green's cockpit design, creating the
ultimate driving environment and providing Andy with the precision control required for the essential systems including electrics, hydraulics, engine start and control systems, safe-ty monitoring and braking. Finally, Jaguar confirmed it will be providing two high perfor-mance Rapid Response Vehicles to support Bloodhound SSC in the desert during the record runs in 2015 and 2016.
Phil Popham, Global Marketing Director, Jaguar said: "The Bloodhound project is one of the most inspirational and in-novative currently in existence. Jaguar is delighted to be part of a project which inspires the next generation of scien-tists and engineers, whilst also supporting Jaguar's commit-ment to high performance technology and our mission of advancing knowledge and improving lives. We are delighted to be able to provide direct engineering support for the Bloodhound project to assist in the achievement of their am-bitions and it is fantastic to have Andy Green here today supporting Jaguar's partnership announcement".
Bloodhound SSC driver and current World Land Speed Rec-ord holder, Andy Green said: "It's great news to have Jaguar as a Main Partner and Innovation Partner to the Bloodhound Project. Jaguar's engineering and innovation knowledge is invaluable and the technological expertise Jaguar brings to the powertrain integration will provide a genuine perfor-mance enhancement to the project. While driving Blood-hound SSC I need to know I will have the responsiveness, performance and reliability required to power the rocket fuel pump and the Jaguar engine is the perfect tool for the job".
Bloodhound Project Director and former World Land Speed Record holder, Richard Noble said: "The recent communica-tions test in South Africa proved that Jaguar is the perfect partner for the Bloodhound project. The AWD F-TYPE R Coupé performed exceptionally well on the Hakskeen Pan and we are looking forward to returning for the World Land Speed Record attempts next year with the specially pre-pared Rapid Response Vehicles - this is a genuinely excit-ing time for the project and we're delighted Jaguar are part of our journey".
BLOODHOUND SSC is currently being assembled at the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre in Bristol, UK. It is on schedule for roll out summer 2015 where it will undergo UK runway testing up to 200mph (321km/h) at the Aerohub, Newquay, UK. The Team will then deploy to South Africa to begin high speed testing with the target of reaching 800mph (1,287km/h). The Team will return to the UK to review the data and return to South Africa in 2016 with the aim of reaching 1,000mph (1,609km/h).
