EE Specific Constraints.
The aim of the EE design team is to utilise as much of the readout equipment developed for the EB as possible.
The EE has several specific constraints:
• Radiation Levels• Limited Space between Back Plate of EE and HE• Longer Signal Leads (between VPTs and Pre - amps).• No direct mapping between Readout Electronics and SCs.• Difficult Access to Patch Panels.
Direct implementation of the EB readout scheme on the EE is not possible.

The EB 10 - Channel Electronic Readout Modules.
The EB are proposing to use 10-Channel Electronic Readout Modules as their basic building block in providing VFE Electronic Readout for the ECAL Barrel.
These Modules will contain:
• One 5-Channel Master Electronic Readout Card.• One 5-Channel Slave Electronic Readout Card.
The Master readout card will contain additional circuitry and Optical Fibres to provide the control interface for the complete readout module. Thus enabling the module to communicate with the Upper Level Readout System.

EE VFE Electronic Readout Design Proposal.
The EE design will combine 5 * 10 Channel Electronic Readout Modules to form a 50 Channel Electronic Readout Unit as its basic building block (serving 2 SCs).
• Effective Use Of Space.
• 95% Of Coverage.
• Create Space For Internal Service Routing.
• Easy of Maintenance.
• Standardisation.
Special arrangements will be required to provide VFE Electronic Readoutfor the deconstructed crystals, placed on the inner and outer periphery.

The EE 10 - Channel Electronic Readout Modules.
The EE will require a small number of modifications to the EB 10-Channel Electronic Readout Module design.
The modifications will include :
• Longer Side Covers (~ 6mm) .• An additional Metal Fixing Plate.• No Heat Pipes.• No High Voltage connector.• Rotation by 90 degrees.

Continuing Development Programme.
There are still a number of outstanding issues regarding the EE VFE Electronic Readout Design. These will require further investigation before a final design proposal can be presented.
The development programme will include:
– Continuing with the Thermal Analysis of Electronic Readout.
– Finding the best Digital Fibre Optic solution for Readout System.
– Finalising the Design/Manufacture & Testing of the 2000 Metal Model.
– Continuing to develop the EE Wooden Quadrant Mock-up.
