Colac District Employee of the Month Darren Middleton says he is humbled and honoured to
be awarded Employee of the Month for the region. The Colac and District Chamber of
Commerce and Industry has named Charles Stewart’s David Middleton as the region’s top
employee for September 2018.
Mr. Middleton said he was thankful for the award but felt unworthy because he had only
been with Charles Stewart as a livestock consultant for two years. “It’s good fun at Charles
Stewart and it’s always good to work around farmers,” he said. “I’ve always had cattle since I
was a kid, so I’ve always known a lot about cattle, and I suppose I’ve got a bit of knowledge
of the district too. Mr Middleton went on to say “But I feel as though I’m not as worthy as
other people in the company, I rely on other people for the knowledge they have as well.”
Mr. Middleton’s added that he was a dedicated and knowledgeable in his work area, also
respectful, friendly, reliable and delivered serviced that exceeded expectations.

Hi there!
My name is Grace Tevelein.
I am 21 years old and a Colac local. I am currently studying my
Certificate 4 in Personal Training.
After 3 years of full-time work in Colac, I decided to follow my
passion for Health and Fitness, moving to Geelong to study full-
time and work part-time.
By the start of 2020, I would like to start my own small business in Personal Training
and Fitness. I can’t wait to finish my course in November 2019 to see where it takes
me.
I currently have my Certificate 3 in Beauty Services and am passionate about
Photography as well.
I hope that the people of Colac and surrounds can help me achieve my small
business goal.

On Friday 24th of May, the Evie Grace Foundation held a Ladies Night In at the
Colac Turf Club. 65 tickets were sold and over $3000 was raised which was donated
to the Reusable Menstrual Pad project that Evie Grace run in Kenya.
100% of the proceeds went towards supplying women in Kenya with reusable pads

we had Revolution Health Centre offering massages, Otway Blooms with a floral
arrangement workshop, Sarah Waldron with Yoga and Lifestyle Coaching, Tessa
Kirkman with relaxation massages and Le Reve, Sue Edwards & John Dunne with
Tarot Card Readings, Rhea Sabine with makeup workshops and Sharon SUguilon &
Vanessa Oakley with Mini Facials using Rodan + Fields products.
We had lucky door prizes, raffles, nibbles and drinks, all of which was so generously
donated from local businesses.
Evie Grace Foundation has many amazing projects such as the Reusable Menstrual
Pad Project, Girl Child Mentorship; through our mentorship program in Kenya, we
educate girls about taboo topics such as child trafficking, child marriage, puberty &

Rights Education; through visits to primary and
secondary schools, slums and remand centres we
educate children and youth about a range of topics.

As I am sure you are all aware another small business in the centre of town @ around
2.30am on Friday Morning 14/6/19 had around $17,000 worth of stock stolen from their shop
in a smash and grab.
Small Business are finding it hard enough with how online shopping is playing a damaging
role with people buying more and more online. And then with criminal damage happening
more frequently how much more can small businesses take before they say enough is
enough.

Colac Real Estate is going MOBILE!
As from the 1st July, the Bromfield Street office will be a thing of the past, as we take
our clients into the way of the future.
No more leaving the comfort of your own home...we come to you – ANY
WHERE….ANY TIME.
Your property isn’t sold within an office, it is at the property, its face to face.
We hear you asking us these questions.......
Q. Aren't real estate agents essentially "mobile" anyway, what’s the difference?
A. Our new approach offers 100% comfort and convenience for our clients, 100 %
commitment - we'll be there for our clients each and every time, onsite whether that's
at their home, workplace or their favourite local café.
Q. If having no office is better, why don't all real estate agents do it?
A. All we can say is that we've always been committed to listening to our clients'
needs and providing them with solutions.
Colac Real Estate is taking a modern and progressive approach that is the way of
the future, allowing us more time to do what we do best - being on the road
introducing potential purchasers to your property.
Q. If you don't have an office, how will people find you or know that you exist?
A. In this business, it's your reputation that matters, and that follows you. We will still
be in the places that matter, on the ground, online, in newspapers and displayed in
our new property window located on the corner of Murray and Hesse Streets.
Colac Real Estate, Refreshingly Different! – a modern
approach that’s all about you.

18 June 2019 | 07:11am – Source - https://mixx1063.com.au/articles/airbnb-pubs/
Local southwest pubs are able to receive a boost to their business thanks to Airbnb. The
Country Pub Project is an initiative designed to encourage more Australians to explore
regional communities, whilst breathing new life into local pubs.
Airbnb will award five pubs across Australia a grant of up to $50,000 each to help them
revive and boost business. Recent research from Airbnb found the local pub is considered
the most important social hub in Australia when compared to RSL clubs, sporting clubs and
the church, yet only half (51%) of Australians would consider staying overnight in a country
pub.
On 5 August 2019, Airbnb will reveal the five pubs that will receive a grant.
Each pub will be paired with a Project Manager to oversee the on-sight rejuvenation process
and an experienced Airbnb Host to guide the publican on registering on the platform. In
addition, Airbnb will support the town in creating a unique experience to attract guests from
near and far to their establishment, launching a campaign to help put the pub and its town
back on the map.
From June 16 through to July 12, you can nominate your favourite watering hole for by
visiting Airbnb.com/countrypubproject describing what makes their local pub so special,
and why an Airbnb grant would help revitalise and restore this place in their local community.

Colac Bunnings To Expand For Vehicle Safety
The Colac Bunnings store is in the process of expanding their property in an attempt to
maximise safety for vehicles entering and exiting the premises.
Colac Otway Shire CEO Peter Brown said Bunnings had purchased the surrounding
property.
"We've had a significant problem with the Shell servo with trucks being able to park there
and then reverse into Bunnings, so this will allow a much better and safer traffic movement.
They've bought three properties on Queen Street as I understand it. So that will allow them
to move their trucks in a safer way."
Colac Otway Shire Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator James Myatt said
Bunnings was considering its customers' safety.
"They're looking at expanding their size and scope of the store they've got there.
So they can improve their traffic flow and the service they provide to the local community.
Just to make it a more seamless user experience for everyone.

Western Australian distillery company Whipper Snapper is
planning to occupy a former Mitre 10 building in central Colac
and has briefed neighbours on its plans.
Colac could see a new whiskey distillery in its main street,
with interest from an interstate company to take over the
empty Mitre 10 site.
Owners of a Western Australian distillery company have briefed community
members and neighbours of a planned distillery in the
building on Murray Street.
Whipper Snapper Distillery owners were in Colac this
week where they led an invite-only community
consultation with about 40 residents, informing them of
plans to take over the vacant site and start Colac’s first
distillery.
He said Whipper Snapper owners put forward an impressive and exciting plan which
would include the distillery, restaurant, sale of local produce, tours of the distillery
and features such as Perspex ceilings and landscaped gardens.

Colac residents urged to join the fight against hunger this winter
Colac residents can join the fight against hunger this winter by supporting Coles’ fundraising
appeal for food rescue organisation SecondBite to deliver meals to people doing it tough this
winter.
For every $2 donation card sold at Coles, SecondBite can provide the equivalent of ten
nutritious meals for people facing hard times and homelessness.
The Colac Coles has donated the equivalent of 5,000 meals to local charities since
partnering with SecondBite.
The Winter Appeal comes as Coles and SecondBite reach a special milestone in their
partnership, with the equivalent of 80 million meals donated to Australians facing
homelessness and hardship since 2011, including more than 20 million meals donated by
200 Coles stores in Victoria.
The campaign will run until July 2nd, and all locals are encouraged to give what they can
afford.

CrossXpollinatioN is a celebration of fibre and textile
art at COPACC. The exhibition began in 2013 as a
way of showcasing established and emerging fibre
and textile artists from regional Victoria and further
afield.
As its name suggests, CrossXpollinatioN’s aim is to
encourage artists to cross-pollinate with each other
and the wider community.
Since its inception, CrossXpollinatioN has grown in
standing and reputation, attracting fans from all over
Victoria and interstate.
The 2019 CrossXpollinatioN offers a $2000
‘Connections’ Art Prize sponsored by COPACC and
the Colac Otway Shire Council.
There is also a $1500 Tarndie Fibre Art Prize
sponsored by Tarndwarncoort, a historic sheep
farming property near Birregurra; and a $500
People’s Choice Award, which is decided by the
votes of exhibition attendees.
CrossXpollinatioN is open to the public from 10am to 4pm
daily from June 28 to July 17.
