Due to the modularity of its design, theLiquisys S CLM 223 / 253 transmittercan be adapted to a wide range ofcustomer needs. The basic version, which provides simple measuring andalarm signalling functions, can beequipped with additional software andhardware modules to match specificapplications. Retrofitting of expansionmodules is also possible.
Areas of application• Ultrapure water• Water treatment• Ion exchangers• Reverse osmosis• Cooling water desalinisation• Sewage
Benefits at a glance• Measuring transmitter in field or
panel-mounted housing• Universal application
– Conductivity and specific resistancevia software switching

Liquisys S CLM 253
Details Liquisys S CLM 223 / 253 providesa solution for all drinking waterprocessing, process water and sewagetreatment applications.
Conductive or inductiveTwo instrument versions for measurementwith conductive (two-electrode) measuringcells or inductive measuring cells areavailable. The use of inductivemeasuring cells that are less sensitive tosoiling than conductive measuring cellsis recommended for concentrationmeasurement or adhering media.
Features of the basic version (CD / ID) :
Measurement of conductivity orspecific resistanceThis is selected via the menu. Duringmeasurement, the value measured canbe displayed in the other measuringmode. The temperature is displayed atthe same time if desired.
Temperature compensation selectionsavailable are linear (α = 0 means notemperature compensation) or specialultrapure water compensation (NaClcurve) according to IEC 746. Thereference temperature is 25 °C.
Different alarms are required dependingon application and operator. Thereforethe Liquisys S CLM 223 / 253 permitsindependent configuration of thealarm contact and error current foreach individual error. Unnecessary orundesirable alarms can be suppressedin this manner.
Up to four contacts can be used aslimit contacts (also for temperature), toimplement a P(ID) controller or forcleaning functions.
Direct manual operation of thecontacts (bypassing the menu)provides quick access to limit, control orcleaning contacts, permitting speedycorrection of deviations.
The serial numbers of the instrumentand modules and the order code canbe called up on the display.
The cell constant can be edited andeven calibrated for demanding specialapplications.
The CS / IS version provides additionalfunctions :
Inductive measuring cells must normallybe installed in pipes at a requiredminimum distance from the pipe wall. Ifthis minimum distance is not observed, the measured value changes. The built-in adaptive calibration feature can beused to compensate for this once thecell is installed.
In order to display wide measuringranges while still achieving a highresolution in certain ranges, the currentoutput can be configured as requiredvia a table. This permits bilinear orquasi-logarithmic curves, etc.
The sensor and process check systemalso indicates any polarisation of theconductive measuring cell. Since thereis no subdivision into severalmeasuring ranges (the full range from0 ... 2000 mS/cm is available at alltimes), the measuring range is limitedby the cell constant only. Polarisationdetection then determines whether or notthe working range determined by themeasuring cell is exceeded.
The live check issues an alarm whenthe measuring cell signal does notchange over a defined period of time. Thismay be caused by blocking, passivation, separation from the process, etc.
Ultrapure water monitoring according toUSP 23 means that the uncompensatedconductivity and the temperature aremeasured and compared to a table. TheLiquisys S CLM 223 / 253 (conductive)comes with this function, and theuser-adjustable pre-alarm indicatesundesirable operating values in due time.Full compliance with USP 23 requiresthe use of a precisely calibratedmeasuring cell, for example, the CLS 15.
The conversion from conductivity toconcentration is effected using fouruser-definable concentration curves. This permits concentrations to bedisplayed directly in % or ppm, i.e. asTDS (total dissolved salts solids).

Electrical connection All connections to the panel-mountedinstrument CLM 223 are established viathe terminal strips on the rear.In the case of the field instrumentCLM 253, all wires (including themeasuring cell cable) are connected toterminals in a separate wiringcompartment.
All the wiring can remain in place if theinstrument needs repair because allpossible repairs are limited to assemblyreplacement. So, dismantling theinstrument and rewiring are no longernecessary.
