The group that was investigated was Inter-Collegiate Athletic Consulting
It was founded in 2001
Purpose was to define the role athletics play on a university campus and provide answers to questions relating the two.

Goal: enhance overall college experience for both academia and athletics without compromising the university’s mission.
It facilitates communication between the two parties

Nutritional Consulting
Well educated with both Bachelor’s and Master’s from the University of Delaware. Here doctoral work was completed at the University of Miami.
Published multiple books and journal articles in the field of nutrition.
Owns nutritional consulting company called The Performance Institute.
Began working with Clemson in 2005
Players are referred to her by coaches, athletic trainers, or on a players own self interest.
Dr. Jackson breaks down the athlete’s daily eating habits and then develops a schedule that allows them to adjust their lifestyle.
Noticeable results are body composition and on-field performance

Sports Psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, performance, exercise and physical activity.
“Sports are 90% mental, and 10% physical.”
It was founded in 1920 and later was studied more extensively in 1980’s.

Clemson University employs Dr. Milt Lowder, Ph.D
Mental/Psychological Consulting
Dr. Lowder’s goal is to develop a strong mind that is necessary for competition and dealing with stress.
Bachelor’s degree from Clemson University, Master’s from Webster University and Ph. D. from the University of Kentucky.
He later completed his clinical internship where he started, Clemson University.
Began working with Clemson Football in 2009

Dr. Lowder also offers individual meetings for special cases

In present day this may be the most important.
Consultants teach athletes the importance of words and their strength.
They work on athlete’s diction and choice of words.
Can be the difference in having a job and being fired.
Media Relations
Clemson uses a firm called The Speaking Specialists
They come in prior to the start of the season during fall camp.
How to conduct interviews, give speeches, and how to properly use social media.
Company goal, “We will prepare you to be effective and persuasive every time you conduct and interview, prepare and deliver a speech, or communicate to the public.”
5 Conerstones
Social Media is the biggest concern.
Prepare the athlete on how to deal with the media and also how to positively promote both themselves and the organization they represent.
