Homemove gives you more choice about where you want to live and a better idea about the number and type of properties that become available in your area.
To bid you must be a member of Homemove, which means you must have registered on the transfer or housing register in your area. To get further information on how to do this you can call your local council or see the application details on the homemove website.
The scheme covers both general needs and sheltered housing, whether you are a current council or housing association tenant seeking a transfer or a homeseeker applying for housing for the first time.
Available properties are advertised in this freesheet and at www.homemove.org.uk. You look at the adverts and decide whether you want to be considered for any of the properties. You can then bid for the properties you are interested in.
Remember, you can only bid either for properties in the section of the magazine you are registered in, or properties in the Cross Boundary section, which is at the back of the magazine.
You can make bids over the internet, by phone, by special coupons and by text message. More detailed information on bidding is available at the back of this freesheet.
You must bid to get a new home. For further information see the scheme user guide, or go to www.homemove.org.uk.
Occasionally, your council may need to withdraw advertised properties from the Homemove Scheme. This could happen for a variety of reasons, for example the existing tenant decided not to move, or the property needed unforeseen repairs. If this happens to a property you have bid for then we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Some of the housing association properties are given a priority for current tenants of that association - these adverts have a coloured background.
Mobility Group One - Typically suitable for a person who uses a wheelchair full time, indoors and outdoors. The property will provide full wheelchair access throughout.
Mobility Group Two - Typically suitable for a person with restricted walking ability and for those that may need to use a wheelchair some of the time. The property will have internal and external level or ramped access, but some parts of the property may not be fully wheelchair accessible.

Do you live in the right area to qualify fora property?Properties are advertised by council area. To bidfor a property in a specific council area youmust be registered as a homeseeker or transferapplicant on that council’s housing register,unless it is advertised as a Cross Boundaryproperty (see below).
Are there properties in other councilareas you can bid for?Yes. If a partner council decides to open up acertain property to bids from people registeredin other areas, they will advertise it as a ‘CrossBoundary’ property. In the magazine, theseproperties will appear in a separate CrossBoundary section at the back, and you can bidon these properties in the normal way, if theymatch your assessed need. On the website, theywill appear in the list of properties you areeligible for, and you can bid on them as youwould for any other property.
Is the property designated forhomeseekers/transfers or both?Your bid won’t count if you bid for a propertyadvertised for homeseekers only and you are atransferring tenant. Homeseekers bidding can onlybid for properties that are advertised with an H orwith both H &T icons. Council tenants and tenantsof any one of the partner housing associationslisted can bid for properties that are advertisedwith aT or bothT & H icons
Is there an age restriction on someproperties?Yes. Some properties have a minimum agerequirement, for example in some schemes forolder people. If an age restriction icon appearson the advert (see page 3) you can only bid onthese properties if you are in that age range.
Some properties have a mobility groupThis is intended to provide a guide to peoplewho have different levels of mobility need.Priority will usually be given to those who havea need for this type of property. The mobilitygroups are explained on page 3.

What sort of tenancy will I be granted?If you are homeseeker being offered a councilproperty, your council may offer you a securetenancy straight away, or they may offer you anintroductory tenancy to start with.
An introductory tenancy is a 12-month trialperiod during which your council or housingassociation will make sure that new tenants actresponsibly and follow the conditions of thetenancy agreement. If there are no problemsduring the trial period, the introductorytenancy automatically becomes a securetenancy. Introductory tenants who transferwithin the introductory period will remainintroductory tenants for the remainder of the12 months. (Contact your council to find outwhat sort of tenancy they wouldoffer you).
Everyone being offered a housing associationproperty, whether homeseeker or transferapplicant, will normally be offered an assuredtenancy with the association.
