Overview, Target Audience and Learner OutcomeAs we celebrate the 38th annual perinatal conference, much progress has been made in the care of high-risk pregnancies, pregnant women, sick newborns and families. Still, we have more work to do. Issues to be addressed include aspects related to antenatal, fetal, intrapartum, neonatal and follow-up care.
This conference is intended for nurses, advanced practice providers, physicians, respiratory therapists and other maternal/child health providers practicing in a variety of roles and settings throughout Colorado, Wyoming and the surrounding region. Providing a forum for perinatal health care professionals, topics covered will enhance and broaden knowledge of current and future perinatal practice. Attendees will be able to incorporate knowledge and resources in their clinical setting.
ObjectivesUpon completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
Evening Presentation
• Examine prematurity trends, prevention efforts in Colorado, obstetrical management and the immediate stabilization of the preterm infant after delivery.
• Discuss optimal ways to enhance the family experience surrounding prematurity and pitfalls to avoid.
Conference Presentations
• Outline the effects of parental substance use/abuse on pregnant women, infants, children and families.
• Discuss strategies to coordinate community and hospital-based services for effective identification and management of perinatal substance abuse.
• Describe the difference between preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders in pregnancy and neonatal effects.
• Discuss the sequelae and risks of the most common infections affecting pregnancy and neonatal effects.
• Identify factors influencing early childhood development in the first 1,000 days of life.
• Review use of an interdisciplinary model to support end-of-life care focused on infant, family and staff needs.
• Recognize the presentation and describe the impact of mood and anxiety disorders on both mother and baby during pregnancy and the early postpartum period with an increased awareness of referral and treatment options.
Conference HandoutsConference handouts will be emailed to registered participants by October 5, 2015. Those not registered by October 5 will receive handouts via email after the conference. Conference handouts will not be available onsite.
