Hiya, gorgeous! Welcome to the Crazy Sexy Green Drink challenge! I’m so thrilled

we’re jumping into this healthy habit together. It’s much easier to

create long-lasting habits when you’re doing it with the support

of an inspiring group of people. Adding a green drink a day to

your wellness practice has extraordinary benefits for your energy,

immune system and overall well-being, so this is the perfect

place to start!

While I love juices (they’re really my main squeeze), we’ll be focusing on

smoothies for the next 5 days. These blended blasts of nutrition can save the

day when you’re short on time in the kitchen. Plus, you don’t need any fancy equipment.

Got that old margarita blender from college hanging around? That’ll do! Easy meal prep and

sustainable energy, here we come!

Psst...this challenge isn’t about perfection. If you can’t blend every day, don’t worry about

it. Let’s say you can commit to having a smoothie for breakfast a couple days during

the week—that’s great! Think of the next 5 days as the beginning of a lifelong routine.

Experiment with recipes to find what you like, make a mess in your kitchen and most of all—

enjoy the process. No negative self-talk allowed. Let’s do this!

Tips for Success• Get organized on paper.

Browse the recipes starting on page 6, plan out your daily smoothies using the challenge planner

on page 4. Jot down when you’ll head to the grocery store so you’re ready to go with all of your

ingredients (see #3 below for more about putting together your shopping list)!

• Get organized in the kitchen. Make sure you have the proper tools on hand. Your blender is going to be your best friend during

the challenge, so give it a prime spot on your kitchen counter! You don’t need anything fancy or

expensive for this challenge, (but I’ve included my blender buying guide on page 5 if you’re ready

for a new one.) You’ll also need a colander for rinsing produce, vegetable peeler, quality knife and

cutting board. And if you plan on storing a serving of your smoothie for a mid-morning snack, have

a couple mason jars and lids available.

• Shop smart. Plan your shopping trip a day or two before the challenge begins. Use the printable shopping list

(on page 8). Before you go to the store, review the list and cross off anything that you already have

in your kitchen or pantry. If you’d rather do a couple of smaller shopping trips during the challenge,

that’s fine, too! Just make sure to organize your shopping list accordingly.

• Prep like a pro. Whenever possible, prep your ingredients the night before so that it’s easy to make your green

drink the next day. Freeze bananas for smoothies, wash and chop greens and measure out other

add-ins. Bonus points for keeping your blender clean and ready to go that way you’ll never have

an excuse for falling off track.

• Write down your goals and remember to check in. Think about what you want to accomplish during the challenge. Remember, we’re talking about

5 days, not 5 years, so keep it simple! You’ve got the rest of your life to build from here. Maybe

you want to improve your digestion or create an ongoing green drink habit. Or, just committing to

drinking a smoothie a day for 5 days is a wonderful goal. Whatever you decide, write down your

goal and put it up on your fridge or somewhere else you’ll see it every day.

How to Choose a BlenderChoosing a blender boils down to personal preference, budget and

lifestyle. If you plan to make green smoothies a regular part of your

routine, then you might want to consider investing in a high-speed

model like the all-mighty Vitamix. These babies aren’t cheap,

running from $350 to over $600 depending on the model. But,

they blend like a dream and they’ll stick with you for years. Plus,

Vitamix stands by their product with a 7 year warranty!

The Blendtec is another quality high-speed blender. It’s slightly

shorter and lighter than the Vitamix (easier to store in cabinets)

and it comes with preprogrammed settings that basically do the

thinking for you. A final high-speed option is the Oster Versa, which

costs about $300—a bargain for a quality machine.

If these premium blenders are out of your price range, you can

still make tasty smoothies with one of the many moderately priced

machines out there. Do a little comparison shopping to see what’s

available, but some of the most reliable brands include Breville,

Cuisinart, Omega, Waring and KitchenAid.

My top pick!

Finally, you can consider a personal blender, like the Magic Bullet or the Nutribullet. Personal

blenders are small (typically for making one to two servings at a time), affordable and easy to use.

They don’t have the same powerful motors or blending capacities as high-speed units, but they’re

great for people who are short on counter space or for frequent travelers who want to make

smoothies on the road.

Granny Smith Apple Pie Who doesn’t love a good ole slice of apple pie? Well, this smoothie is the next best thing. It’s sweet, a little tart and the cinnamon evokes grandma’s favorite dessert perfectly.

Makes 2 Servings (20 to 24 ounces) 1 banana, frozen 1 Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled and seeded 1 1/2 cups kale, leaves only, tightly packed 1 1/2 cups nondairy milk of choice 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1 pitted Medjool date (optional) 1 Wash and prep all ingredients. 2 Blend till smooth and serve.

Antioxidant Boost This smoothie is an antioxidant-providing, free-radical busting, inflammation-fighting superhero! You could literally serve it in a cape and tights.

Makes 2 Servings (16 to 20 ounces)

1 cup mixed berries, frozen½ cup blueberries, frozen¼ cup goji berries1 ½ cups nondairy milk of choice½ teaspoon matcha green tea powder1 cup spinach, tightly packed

1 Wash and prep all ingredients. 2 Blend till smooth and serve.

Body Builder This protein-packed smoothie is my go-to meal before or after a workout.

Makes 2 Servings (20 to 24 ounces) 2 small bananas, frozen 2 cups almond milk 2 tablespoons hemp seeds 2 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter 2 cups kale, leaves only, tightly packed 1 pitted Medjool date

1 Wash and prep all ingredients. 2 Blend and serve.

Brain Booster Your “green drinks” don’t always have to be green in color! This powerful smoothie is filled with nutrient-rich kale, sweet blueberries and mood-boosting walnuts.

Makes 2 Servings (16 to 20 ounces)

1/2 banana, frozen 1 1/2 cups blueberries, frozen 1 1/2 cups almond milk or nondairy milk of choice 2 tablespoons walnuts, chopped 1 cup kale, leaves only, tightly packed 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, ground

1 Wash and prep all ingredients. 2 Blend till smooth and serve.

Raspberry Revitalizer This delicious smoothie will make you feel as though you’re drinking dessert through a straw—but it’ll also help to boost your vitality with healthful fatty acids and greens.

Makes 2 Servings (16 to 20 ounces) 1 cup kale, tightly packed 1 cup raspberries, frozen 1 banana, frozen 1 tablespoon coconut oil 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups nondairy milk of choice

1 Wash and prep all ingredients. 2 Blend till smooth and serve.

8 cups (½ gallon) non dairy milk of your choice

1 cup frozen raspberries

2 cups frozen blueberries

1 cup frozen mixed berries

½ tsp matcha green tea powder

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons hemp seeds

2 tablespoons walnuts
