COURSEWORK STUDY OPTIONSGraduate Certificate Provides specialised study in a specific subject area, with the opportunity to progress to a graduate diploma and/or masters upon completion. Many CQUniversity graduate certificate courses are designed as a pathway for those who have not studied a bachelor degree but have relevant professional experience.
Graduate Diploma Enables you to develop skills in a specialised area, or equip you with the knowledge to undertake a new career direction. Graduate diplomas are designed for those who have already completed a bachelor degree or equivalent, or have significant professional or industry experience in a relevant area.
Masters by Coursework Comprises a series of specialist courses designed to extend your professional understanding in a particular subject area, or provide you with the opportunity to move in a new professional direction. Postgraduate coursework courses have a structure consisting of core and elective units, and therefore require students to enrol in these units, attend timetabled classes and complete required assignments
RESEARCH STUDY OPTIONSMasters by Research Enables you to undertake original research in a particular area of interest under supervision and resulting in the submission of a thesis.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Awarded on the basis of a thesis prepared under supervision that makes an original, significant and extensive contribution to knowledge and understanding in the relevant field of study, as judged by independent experts applying accepted contemporary international standards.
Doctor of Education A professionally based research higher degree available through the University as an alternative to the traditional research courses. It offers a rigorous course combining structured advanced research tasks and a thesis component.
Doctor of Professional Studies An internationally recognised higher research degree designed to produce innovation in commercial, government, educational and other applied settings. Whereas the PhD, EdD and other ‘professional’ doctorates are single-discipline based, the CQUniversity Doctor of Professional Studies is explicitly transdisciplinary to reflect the way research is carried out in industry and government.

STUDY MODESOn-campusIf you are in Australia on a student visa you must study full time on campus. While in Australia, you are able to undertake some units within your course online provided it is: no more than 25 per cent of your entire course; approved by the University; and not entirely online in a compulsory term.
OnlineBy choosing to study online, you’ll have the flexibility to study a course without needing to visit a campus. If you choose to study online, you may choose part time or full time to study at your own pace. Some courses require you to attend a residential school in Australia for a short period of time.
STUDY FULL OR PART TIMEFull timeFor an undergraduate bachelor degree, a standard full-time load consists of four units per term. You can expect a maximum of 16 hours on campus each week, consisting of four hours per unit.
Part timePart-time study is only available to international students who do not live in Australia and are studying online. A part-time study load consists of one or two units per term.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING If you have previously studied at another university or institution within the last ten years, or have professional experience, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (also known as advanced standing, credit exemption and credit transfer). Recognition of prior learning must be applied for at the time of applying for your course. Your qualifications and professional experience will be assessed on a case by case basis. RESEARCH STUDENTSResearch higher degree applications are invited all year round. There are no set intake dates for research higher degrees.
The research higher degree online application process begins with an Expression of Interest through iStart. You will be asked to select your course and location, along with providing a brief description of your proposed research topic.
1. Ensure topic is aligned with the University’s research priority areas. Visit www.cqu.edu.au/research/research-higher-degrees projects for information on our current research project.
2. Identify a potential research supervisor. For expert advice and direction regarding a prospective supervisor, please refer to the Deputy Dean Research in the relevant school of which your research area of interest relates to.
3. Submit a full application. Depending upon the outcome of your Expression of Interest, you may be invited to submit a full application for admission as a research higher degree candidate.
