1-The planDuring the year 2008, DKG decided to participate in the 11
thMJS football tournament which
was to be held during the year 2011. So, before start of the 10th
MJS football tournament in
2010, we shortlisted the players to play for our team in 2011. From the first day onwards, our
main aim was to give the chance for young players to show their talents in Meedhoos elite club
competition and the average age of the first shortlisted team was 18.5 years.
1.1- Finance:After shortlisting the players, then we discussed the ways that we could generate the required
finance to run the team. After discussion among the group members, it was decided to collect a
subscription of Mrf 40/- from each member for 12 months, commencing September 2010. After
collecting subscription at this rate till the end of December 2010, the budget was reviewed and
was decided to increase the subscription to Mrf 50/- from the month of January 2011.
After that, we aimed at finding a sponsorship for our team. For that, sponsorship proposals
were sent to 20 different businesses in Male. No businesses responded to the proposals within
two months, so we talked with Key Biz enterprises Pvt Ltd of R. Meedhoo for a sponsorship for
our team in 11th
MJS football tournament. And after the talks, a verbal agreement was made
among both parties, which brought a huge financial satisfaction for the team.
To get extra funds for the team, the group decided to meet the Member of the Parliament for
the Maduvvari Constituency, Honorable Visam Ali. After two separate meetings during the
month of July 2011, the MP donated Mrf. 2000/- for D Squad FC, which we thankfully
appreciate.
The situation was pretty calm until late July, when the owner of Key Biz enterprises Pvt Ltd
decided to terminate the verbal agreement made between them before signing a formal deal.
Even though this brought a downturn in the financial status of the team, it does not affect the
motivation of the team. Rather, we discussed about other ways to get the lost amount into the
D Squad FCs budget 2011. As the tournament were getting closer and closer, we were left with
7/28/2019 D Squad FC Tournament Report 2011
5/31
D SQUAD FC 2011 TOURNAMENT REPORT
Page 5
few options and from that, the group members decided to cover up the amount lost through
the cancellation of the agreement of Key Biz by collecting another extra Mrf. 1000/- from those
members who received the May 2011s National Student Loan Scheme. (i.e. AthifZahir, Malik
Abdul Qafur, Maumoon Afeef and Hassan Fawaaz). In addition to this further subscription was
taken from the following members:-
- Abdul Hannan Mrf. 1000/-- Mohamed Shamveen Mrf. 500/-- Muaviath Nizar Mrf. 500/-- Ismail Rishan Mrf. 300/-- Nazeeh Mohamed Mrf.100/-- Abdulla Hafeez Mrf.100/-- Mohamed Ahmed Mrf.100/-- Ahmed Faaris Mrf.100/-
We would like to thank all the group members for their effort to collect these outstanding
amounts of money, within such a short period of time.
2-Players:As mentioned earlier, our preparation for MJS football tournament 2011 began with shortlisting
of players to play for our team. The shortlisted players were handed over with a temporary
agreement and all the players except Mohamed Shamveen and Ibrahim Rasheed signed the
agreement at a small dinner night held at Dhoores during the month of September 2010. From
the shortlisted players Majid Abdul Ghafoor and Saamee Saeed were withdrawn from the
squad for some personnel reasons.
After losing some players for above mentioned reasons, the group then started scouting for
their replacement. Thus, all the DKG members agreed to add a little bit of experience to our
squad as we found that they would play an important role in leading the team as we were

heading to our first major tournament. At the very first moment everyone decided to offer a
contract to Hussain Amir (Ando), a player from last years Champion team and was nominated
to the best 5 players from Meedhoo during that year. A one year contract was offered to Ando
during September of the same year. It took Ando a while to decide on our offer.
During those days we then offered a contract to another player from last years Champions,
Moosa Rashad (Moosa). The latter one played an
important role in convincing Ando to our team and they
both signed for our team during the month of November
2010.
During the same month, the two players who did not sign
during the dinner night (i.e. Mohamed Shamveen and
Ibrahim Rasheed) signed for the team, which brought
courage to our ambition of being the new Champions of
MJS football Tournament 2011.
The squad remained like that for another six months until

the most expensive player in Meedhoo and the player which almost all the Meedhoo defenders
fear to play against, joined us. During June 2011 Hassan Shareef (Rom) signed for D Squad FC
and completed the squad for the tournament.
It was less than a month to the start of the tournament and we got miserable news that our
second Goal Keeper, Ali Samir got injured and will not be able to play in the tournament and we
were faced with another problem. We tried our best to find a replacement for that post and
could not succeed until the late August as Sharafuddin Abdulla (Saraf) agreed to play in that
position. The Goal Keeper problem did not end there and it continued until the last minute to
the tournament. Saraf was declared not eligible for the tournament by the governing body and
we did not get another chance to add a replacement for Saraf. Therefore, we faced the
tournament with a risk of only just 1 Goal Keeper in the squad. Finally, on 27th August 2011, the
final squad of D Squad FC was submitted to the MJS. Following are the players included in the
final call-up.

Management
We started scouting for a suitable manager for our team, from the day we decided to build up
the team for the tournament during September 2010. We
looked for a person with management qualities and who can
lead us through difficult situation to ease. The first name
nominated by the group members was Mr. Ahmed Naeem, a
Business Studies teacher at Raa Atoll Education Centre and
also who was later elected for the Vice President of MJS.
During the first official meeting held with Mr. Ahmed Naeem,
he accepted that offer and gave his full support for the team
from that day onwards. He signed the contract with the

shortlisted players during the dinner night. Then we turned our
attention to find an Assistant Manager for the team, making an
offer to Mr. Ahmed Zahir, a Primary Teacher at Raa Atoll Education
Centre. It took a while for him to accept our offer and signed the
contract during the month of
October 2010.
Then, the most important
part of building the team
came, which is finding a
Coach for the team. At the very first minute, we knew
that Mr. Mohamed Shareef (Coach of the Last years
Champion-Kashavaru) was available for talks, so we
started talks with him and offered a contract. The talks between both the parties continued for
almost a month and finally, during the month of June 2011, Mr. Mohamed Shareef (Koka)
joined the batch of youth, D Squad FC. Mr. Firaq Ali was appointed as an Assistant to Koka.
To complete the management team, we then chose Abdul Hannan as a Medical Assistant, and
Mr. Ali Rasheed and Mohamed Ziyad as other officials for the team.
Here is a list of D Squad FC 2011s Management Team:
1- Ahmed Naeem (Manager)2- Ahmed Zahir (Assistant Manager)3- Mohamed Shareef (Coach)4- Firag Ali (Assistant Coach)5- Abdul Hannan (Medical Assistant)6- Ali Rasheed (Official)7- Mohamed Ziyad (Official)
We would like to thank the management team for their valuable service and contribution to D
Squad FCs success in the tournament.

4 Team KitWe started to design our jersey in early July 2011. After
designing the jersey, first with black and yellow colour, we gave
it to a business who stitches jerseys, on 10th
of July. But, it was
only 15 days prior to the tournament when the company
informed us that our jersey might not be ready for the start of
the tournament. On the same day, we then turned our
attention to find another business that could do it for us within a week. Then all the members
of the group found that the only remaining option was to go for a local business and we
ordered EVE garments to stitch it for us. They finished and
delivered the jersey for us on 23rd
of August 2011 and then
we gave the jerseys for numbering to Print Line.
The socks were purchased from a local retailer, Sonee Sports
and the hand sleeves which were used by D Squad FC for the
first time in Meedhoo, were purchased from Fothi Fihaara.
5 As the tournament drew nearAs the tournament drew near to us, we arranged a meeting with all the players that was
available in the island at that time to discuss about how to proceed from there. In that meeting,
it was decided to start the practice with the available 8 or so players during mid-August. Even
though the practice was canceled for 3 days due to some mistakes from the players, with hard
work and great effort of the Coach and also the players, the practice continued that way till the
tournament began. We would like to thank all those few players and of course others who
joined later and especially the Coach and the management for their full support prior to the
tournament.

The practice continued with half of the team players until 3 days to go when we could unite the
whole team in the practice. Even though we could not practice a lot for the tournament as a
team, the players and the coaching staff were satisfied with the way we approached the
tournament. After almost 2 weeks of continuous practice, we held our last practice session on
29th
August 2011.
6 Facing the tournamentThe team participated in all the meetings held by MJS regarding the tournament issues. The
Manager, his Assistant and some of the members from the group represented the team in the
meetings held on 21st

Vice-Captain Rom represented the team in the meeting held during the tournament.
During the first meeting held on 21st

That day, rumors started that 4 of the D Squad FCs registered players were ineligible for the
tournament. They were Hassan Fawaaz, Ahmed Faaris, Abdul basith and Ismail Rishan. That
issue was raised by one of our major rivals in the tournament, FC Funpeace. After two days of
controversial debate over the issue, with the help of our manager Mr. Ahmed Naeem and
Official Ali Rasheed, the case ended in our favour. We as a group appreciate their work in this
case. So, on behalf of DKG, We thank them a lot. Then, the last meeting was to introduce the
tournament officials to the teams, held on 29th
of August 2011.
7 Tournament kicks offAfter almost 1 year of preparation, D Squad FC faced the tournament on 30
thAugust 2011 with
lifting the trophy being the only aim of the team. An unofficial meeting was held at the Caf
Osten, with the senior members of the group and the Coach in order to arrange the match day
schedule, on 29th
August 2011. In that meeting the Coach shared some of his views on the team
and his expectations for the team.
7.1 Match day 1 (30th
August 2011)
GSK vs IMG
The long-awaited tournament kicked off with the match between GSK and IMG. The match
ended in a 1-1 draw with GSK scoring first. Both the goals arrived in the second half. When this
news was reached to the D Squad FCs players, who then were on their final training session for
their first match, it raised their courage to win our first match against FC Funpeace.

8.2.1 Team Line-up
The Coach decided that our formation for that match will be 4-5-1at the start. The starting eleven for the match was as follows:-
7.2.2 Match kicks off
With the discussed tactics in the players mind, the team stated
the game with a high tempo. It was D Squad FC who created
earlier chances of the game and threatened the opponents goal.
After a quite run in the game, then it came a period where FC
Funpeace strikes 3 to 4 long range efforts to our goal. Luckily we
escaped with one of them, which passes the goal keeper but the
cross bar was for our rescue. With high tempo of the game, the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.

The team started the second half with little internal changes with the line-up being the same. It
took a while in the second half for both the teams to get into the game, and again it was D
Squad FC who dominated the game from midfield. The nice dribbling and passing of Moosa,
Malik and Ibbe created nervousness in the opposite defense line. Then came the moment of
the game, Najih was setup by a loose ball from the Funpeace defense line and he struck the ball
with one touch to give the team their deserved lead. What a goal that was! After the goal
Funpeace started to threaten our goal by few strikes. And it did not take so long for them to
equalize the game and it was a strike from Abdulla Fayaz who shot outside the box and the ball
passed the goal keeper into the lower right-hand corner of the goal. After that goal our players
worked very hard to end their first game in a major tournament with a win. The team
controlled almost all the possession of the last ten minutes of the game. And when Najih
entered their penalty area with the ball, Ibrahim Rasheed, one of the opposition defender
fouled him and the referee awarded a penalty for D Squad FC. Hassan Shareef (Rom) took the
responsibility and converted the spot kick into a goal and regained the lead for the team.
The match ended with that score line and there were some important things to highlight in the
game, which includes the yellow card shown to Rom.
7.2.3 After the match
D Squad FC ended their first match in a major tournament with a win which increased
motivation in the team and the expectation for the title increased. The management and all the
players were more than satisfied with the effort the team put to win the game and the
beautiful team plays. Moreover, the most important thing was that a team full of youth
recorded a win over a team with 7 years of experience in the tournament.

7.3 Match day 3 (1st
September 2011)
IMG vs D Squad FC
When the second round of the matches started, D squad FC was the only team with 3 points
and we were dominating the tournament. Therefore, the importance of the second round of
matches was higher for other teams than us. And for us, the second match was also very
important as a win would secure a place in the Final of the tournament.
To prepare for the second game in two days time, the players gathered at the camp house at
1000Hrs. The same trend continued in the dressing room, as the players enjoyed a lot there.
Again at 1200 hrs the team took a one and half hour break and was back at the house at 1330
Hrs.
Before starting the build up for that days match, there was a review session of previous days
match. All the coaching staffs were happy and satisfied with the performance of the team. The
coach, Assistant Coach, manager and Assistant manager highlighted the positives and the things
to avoid in our upcoming matches. Moreover, all stayed on to praise the nice football the team
showed in that match.

After 30 minutes of review session, the team started the game planning after taking a 15
minute break. Even though there were little injuries in the team, the Coach decided to feature
the same starting eleven for the second consecutive match. Here is the team line up:-
7.3.1 The match kicked off
The team started the match in the same way as previous
days match. The team started the game by giving a lot of
pressure to the IMGs defense line. And finally it got paid off
just 5 minutes into the game, when Najih converted a miss
kicked ball from IMGs defender into a goal giving the
keeper no chance of saving that. It was the strikers second
goal in two games. With the early goal we scored, it made the game much easier for us as we
controlled majority of the possession and the opponents were not able to get into the match
until late in the first half. A low cross from right-hand side of D Squad FCs defense was met by
Saudulla, striker from IMG and scored the equalizer on the stroke of half time as first half of the
match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Both teams started the second half with same line up and
both teams tried to get the control of the game early in the
second half. But it was D Squad FC who controlled much of
the possession in the second half also but the team was
unable to convert any of those chances into a goal and the
match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The man of the match for that match was Ahmed Asif (Oittey) of our team. The young and
enthusiastic defender showed a solid performance in the team that day. Congratulations
Oittey!!!
7.3.2 After the match
Even though the team was unable to win the match, the management praised the teams
performance in the field. The supporters also congratulated the team for their brilliant
performance in that match. In addition, one important thing to highlight was that last years
Footballer of the year, Hussain Shiyam was also playing for the IMG team. But the youth
attackers beat him like they were professionals and the player of the year could not do much to
stop those amazing youth.
The team got a two-day break after that match and players were given enough time to recover
from their injuries. The team then met at a dinner organized by the team on 2nd
September
2011 at the Camp house. Before that meeting some of the D squad FCs players got warning
threat from a GSK player outside the footballing field and one of our player got attacked.
Therefore before starting the review about our previous match, the Management and
especially the Coach mentioned that he was not happy with how D Squad FC players acted that
day. So, the meeting continued with absolute silence. But, following the talks held by our
management and GSK, everything got solved by that night. After the Coachs comments on
previous days match, the meeting ended with a special dinner offered to the team.

GSK vs FC Funpeace
As both the teams had not recorded a win prior to this match, the match became the most
important of all for both teams. The match was the best so far in that tournament as both
teams tried their best to earn victory. But, at the end it was FC Funpeace who passed through
the test. They won the match 1-0.

As the tournament came to its fifth match, the heat in the tournament increased and both
teams must win this encounter to have a chance to advance to final. And if a team loses they
have to leave the tournament. The match produced some astonishing atmosphere around the
ground. The match stopped for around 15 minutes after the kick off, due to some heavy rain.
Finally, the match ended with a victory for IMG and them securing a position in tournaments

7.6 Match day 6 (4th
September 2011)
D Squad FC vs GSK
As both teams were aiming to a spot in the tournament final, the only chance for GSK was to
defeat D Squad FC with more than a 2 goal difference. If not so, D Squad FC will advance
through to the final with IMG. After what happened within the society before the match, it was
believed to be one of the astonishing encounters of the tournament. Additionally, a day before
the match, Ibrahim Naeem (Ibbe) and our Assistant Coach Firaq Ali, two very important
members of our team left the squad for some of their personnel reasons.
A slight change was made for the schedule of our preparation for that match as the Coach and
Assistant Manager was not available with the team from 1330 Hrs till the end of first half.
Therefore the team gathered at the camp house at 1145 Hrs and the meeting started at 1200
Hrs. As there was not much time for the coach to be with the team, quickly the starting eleven
for the match was announced. There was one change from the team that drew 1-1 with IMG as
Hassan Fawaaz, the right-back was replaced by another youngster, Ahmed Faaris (Fedo).
Elsewhere, there were the same players. The team started the match in 4-5-1 formation. Here
is how the team lined up:-

7.6.1 Match kicks off
As believed earlier, the match started in a high tempo. Fans from both the teams around the
ground were supporting their teams. Our team started the match with the style we applied in
our two previous games and the opposition was working very hard to regain the possession of
the ball. Rather, it was GSK who took an early lead in the match as a half chance for their jersey
no. 9 was converted into a goal. The team looked little bit nervous after the early goal from the
oppositions. But it did not take much time for D squad FC to regain the possession and it was a
superb pass from Athie to the on running Ibbe who seems to be in an offside position (but it
was Sambe who was in an offside position), converted it into the lower right corner of GSKs
goal. That goal was one of the best goals in the tournament which involved a nice team play
from D Squad FC. After that goal, the tempo of the game increased as GSK players started
attacking D Squad FCs players without the ball. But none of the match official could see this
and no action was taken against those players. Then, came the controversial moment of the
game, it was a well chipped pass from Moosa to Ibbe, over the GSKs defense line, but one of
the GSK defender Buchi stopped the ball with his hand and the referee only showed him a
yellow card. Surely it should be a red card as it was a goal scoring opportunity. But our captain
and vice-captain controlled the overwhelming players of our team as the coach was not in the
bench at that time. And the first half ended in that score.
During the half time the coach and Assistant Manager
came to the bench and advised the team to be calm
and patient and to show fair play to the supporters and
other teams.
When the second half started, it was GSK who should
work double hard to score another two more goals
against us. Rather in this half also they tried to attack
our players than playing with the ball. It was then, the referee clearly saw the tackles of Azmeel
and Saittey on Najih, Ibbe and Fedo respectively without the ball. Even then the referee refused
to send them off the field. Some of the players seems to be crying on the pitch for the attacks

they faced by the opponents but players showed their patience and continued with the game.
But then, it was a saitteys tackle that injured fedo and was unable to continue the play and was
replaced by Saappe. After a few minutes from that, the motivation of the team and the anger of
the opponents increased as Rom scored the third goal of the game, our second of the match. It
was a misunderstanding in GSKs defense line which allowed Rom to score that goal. The team
then tried to control the play and pass the ball within the field. But, when Rom tried to delay a
free kick of GSK, the referee showed him a yellow card and it was second of the tournament
and was suspended for the teams next match even if we win this tie. But even then the players
continued their nice game. But during the last ten minutes the referee awarded a penalty as the
ball touches the arm of Ibbe inside our own penalty area and GSK converted that penalty into a
goal. The scores were level again. And then the team defended really well for the remaining
minutes of the match and D Squad FC were through to the final of their first ever tournament.
The match ended in 2-2 draw eliminating GSK from the tournament. Many of the D Squad FC
players even cried after that cruel match. The man of the match was the inspiring Hassan
Shareef (Rom).
7.6.2 Review
After the match, the management and officials congratulated and thanked the players on the
pitch for their patience and fair play.
The official review session for the match was held that night at Caf Osten at 2130 Hrs. During
this session every one of the management team congratulated and thanked the team for their
restless effort to come with a draw in that encounter with all the difficulties faced during the
match and the coaching staffs highlighting the positives and little negatives. Unlike other review
sessions, in that particular session, the players were given the chance to express their feelings
after an unsporting football the opponents played. The session ended with a coffee and the
players were told to take rest and get fully prepared for the final match against IMG.
After six days of drama and controversial incidents, it was D Squad FC and IMG who went
through to the final of the tournament. Here is how the teams stood after the tournament.

suspended Rom. The Coach decided to play in 4-4-2 formation in this match. Here is how the
team line-up looked like:-
After announcing the team line up, then the coach explained
the players, how they should approach to the game and some
tactics. Then, the team went for a one hour break at 1330
Hrs. The team then gathered at the camp house at 1430Hrs
with Rom and the Manager leading the team as the Coach
and Assistant Manager will be out until the halftime with
their official jobs. When it was less than one hour to kickoff,
still Ando could not get release from his office and could not
come to the match. It was about 30 minutes to the match
when Ando informed the team that he cannot come to the
start of the match but will be their within 20 minutes in to the game. Then after discussing this
with the Coach, Rom decided to introduce Abo for the starting elven until Ando comes and

there were little changes made for the positions of the players. And Oittey was given the
Captain Arm band and he became the youngest ever player to captain a team in the biggest
tournament held in Meedhoo. Here is how the team looked like later:-
7.7.1 The Final Kicks Off
At 1600 Hrs the match kicked off with so many supporters around the ground, supporting their
teams. During the early stages of the game IMG tried to make use of the absence of our skipper
and tried to attack our goal twice. But on both occasions the ball went far beyond the goal. It
took 10 minutes for the team to settle down and start our game. As expected, after 20 minutes
Ando arrived to the ground and quickly replaced then injured Abo. From that time onwards, it

was all D squad FC players on the field and they were controlling the field of play. After a
superb performance, still the team was unable to convert any of the chances they created
during the first half into a goal and it ended in a 0-0 score line.
Both the teams started the second half without any changes. Just minutes after the start of the
second half, IMG lost their main asset, the former player of the year of Meedhoo, Gitey through
injury. It did not meant a lot for our team as he was not so sharp in this years tournament. Just
after a few minutes, Malik the jersey No. 19, got the ball inside IMG penalty area and he
dribbled with the ball really well before sending the keeper wrong way and scored the first goal
of the match. After that goal also, D Squad FC continued threatening the opponents goal in
numerous occasions. As a result, again this time Najih gets the ball freely inside IMGs penalty
area and he who never make mistakes from that distance and scored the second goal of the
team, his third in the tournament. Then also
the Coach asked the team to go forward and
strive for the third goal. It did not take much
for the third goal to arrive as a well curved
cross from right flank was headed home by
the debutant Bulley. Then, the team relaxed
for the final 15 minutes of the game, and
luckily against the run of play, IMG managed
to pull one back through a JK goal towards
the end of the match but the match ended
with a 3-1 victory for the young D squad FC.
