ExecutiveSummaryThisdocumentdescribes thedisseminationmaterialsand impactreportingstrategy in theAllScaleproject.
Inordertoensurethattheprojectresultswillbedisseminatedinaneffectivemanner,thedisseminationmaterialreportedinthisdeliverablehasbeencreatedtoensureamaximumuptake of the achieved outcomes. In addition, the concrete consortium’s impact reportingstrategyhasbeenputinplacetomonitortheprojectimpactinacontinuousmanner.
The deliverable provides information about additional AllScale dissemination materialsproducedintheproject,suchasprojectleaflets,posters,newsletters,calendarofevents,etc.It also includesotherdissemination supportmaterials required togiveahigher impact totheproject,asitprogresses.
The deliverable is organized around 4 sections. The 1st section includes introductoryinformation on the created disseminationmaterial. The 2nd section presents in detail thecreatedmaterial. Inthe3rdsectionpresenttheproject’sapplied impactreportingstrategy.The final 4th section represents the summaries of the concluding remarks, with someproposedupdatestothealreadyestablisheddisseminationactivities.
The results of the dissemination activities, based on the produced disseminationmaterialare reported in D7.2 based in the applied impact reporting strategy as described in thisdeliverable.

1 Introduction
The dissemination material has to contain the project generated knowledge in order topromoteappropriately thescientificdevelopmentsandthus,maximizing the impactof thegrantedfundingtothepublic.Thedisseminationmaterialhastocontaintheprojectresults,andthe informationrelatedtothemhastobedisseminatedtoasmanyrelevantpeopleaspossible,includingacademicsandprofessionals,stakeholders,andalsothewideraudience.Their creation represents an essential requirement to be upfront fulfilled, before anydisseminationactionontheirbasiscouldtakeplace.Thedisseminationmaterialsdetailsarepresentedinthenextsectionforeachcreatedone,asfollows:

And each, and every, consortium partner has the possibility to use them to enlarge theinterest in the AllScale project and to the activities around it. 3 Impactreportingstrategy
3.1 Plannedimpacts
The AllScale project makes considerable impact on programming environments,programming productivity, performance portability, optimization technology, resiliencemanagement, and online systemandprogramanalysis for extreme scale parallel systems.ThetestedandvalidatedAllScaletechnologiesandsolutionswillbedisseminatedwidelytotherelevanttargetedindustries,usergroups,scientistsandotherstakeholders.
3.1.1 Workprogram
AllScaleexpectedimpactoftopicFETHPC-1,calltext–“ContributiontotherealizationoftheETP4HPC Strategic Research Agenda, thus strengthened European research and industrialleadershipinHPCtechnologies.”
Thecurrentstateoftheartinthedevelopmentofmassivelyparallelapplicationsrendersthedevelopment task tedious and error prone, and it does not lead to performance portablecodes.AllScaleisdesignedaroundanovelprogrammingAPIthatsubstantiallysimplifiesthedevelopment of parallel programs by specifying parallelism at a high level of abstractionwithouttheneedtomanuallyencodeanyloadbalancingordatatransferstrategies.
ThosemanagementdecisionsarelefttotheAllScalecompilerandruntimesystem.AllScalesupportextremescaleparallelismbyfosteringnestedrecursiveparallelism,whichgeneratesanexponentialnumberoftasks.Thoseareflexiblyanddynamicallymappedtotheavailablecomputational resources. Furthermore, AllScale’s focus on utilising pure C++ interfaceswithout introducing any language extensions or annotations enabling programmers tocontinuetoutiliseestablisheddevelopmentinfrastructuresaswellasthird-partylibraries.
The ETP4HPC Strategic Research Agenda [1] proposes hierarchical decomposition toovercomethedisadvantagesofflatmodelssuchasMPIranks.AllScaleiscentredonnestedrecursiveparallelism,which inherentlysupportshierarchicalparallelismandarchitecturesbydesign.Theuserhas toexposenestedrecursive taskparallelism,while themapping toandauto-tuning forhierarchical extremescaleorany scale computing systems isdonebytheAllScale environment.The recursiveparallelismas fosteredbyAllScale (in contrast to flatparallelism) encourages the development of solutions following the divide & conquerpattern,thereby,asasideeffect,reducesglobalsynchronisationandcommunication,aswellas,increasesdatalocality.
In contrast tomuchexistingwork that focusesonpost-mortemperformanceanalysis andthus prevents any dynamic steering and optimisation of program execution, AllScalepropagateshighlyscalableonlineanalysisformultiplenon-functionalparametersincludingtime, energy and resilience. Furthermore, the on-line introspection component of AllScaledevelops scalable monitoring and data reduction techniques, as well as, effective storagestructures,whichisinlinewiththeETP4HPCExascaleproposal.
TheETP4HPCStrategicresearchAgendaalsoproposesaholisticHPCtechnologysoftwarestack,whichisfullysupportedbytheAllScaleenvironmentthatbuildsonasinglecompilerand runtime system which is in contrast to much existing work that couples multiplecompilers and runtime systems,which isprone to losehighly relevant informationacrossdifferentsoftwarelayers.

AllScale also supports the ETP4HPC recommendation to develop HPC technology, whichtargets extreme scale architectures but can also be applied to any smaller scale parallelarchitecture. Nested recursive parallelism lends itself to any scale parallel computingsystems due to its inherent hierarchical design enabling flexible self-adaptation ofparallelism.
Ease of programming is supported as under AllScale the programmer only has to specifyparallelismwithout dealingwithwork or data distribution to a parallel architecture, loadbalancingordatamanagement issues.AllScalealsodevelopsanovelapproachtooptimizeforruntime,energyandresilience,whichisbasedontheAllScalecompiler,basedcreationofmultiplecodeversionseachofwhichrepresentsadifferent trade-offsamong the involvedobjectives.
The AllScale runtime system is then dynamically selecting among the available versionsdependingontherelevanceofthevariousobjectivesduringthecorrespondingphaseoftheprogram execution. This again is very much in contrast to existing work that largelyconsiderstheseoptimisationgoalsasindependentorlimitoptimisationtotwoobjectives.Furthermore, existing work fixes the trade-off among objectives throughout the entireprogramstatically andhence for theentire executionwhile theAllScale approachenablesthe dynamic adaptation (performance portability) of optimization objectives during theactualprogramexecution.
Overall the AllScale project leads to a highly innovative solution for a single source toanyscale development environment that combines the right balance between ease ofprogramming, portability, optimisation of multiple objectives, and between static anddynamic tuning techniques,which follows therecommendationsof theETP4HPCStrategicResearchAgenda.

The AllScale environment is designed to target extreme scale architectures due to theinherentnatureofnestedrecursiveparallelismthathasapromisingpotentialtogenerateanexponential number of tasks. Moreover, nested recursive parallelism also reflects a treestructure of parallel tasks that are further sub-divided into sub-tasks. This recursivestructureisadaptedtohierarchicalparallelarchitecturesandthegenerationofsub-tasksiscontrolledtosuitanyscaleofparallelarchitecturesrangingfromdesktopPCs,servers,high-endparallel computers toExascaleparallel architectures.AllScale thus introducesa setoftechnologies that are broadly applicable to a large set of parallel architectures andapplications which comprises many different industries, commerce and science includingCloud computing, gaming and video processing, computational engineering and anyindustrialscientificapplicationdealingwithcomputeanddataintensiveapplications.
The AllScale approach responds in a targeted manner to cover broader segments of anemerging HPC market, namely through exposing only higher levels of the stack to thedomain expert/programmer and otherwise automating the parallelisation by providingready-madeparallelisableC++skeletons;also,bysaving thedomain-expert/programfromtheburdenofmanualextractionofextremeparallelism,whichwillbemadepossiblebytheAllScale compiler/ runtime approach. Furthermore, the AllScale approach, strategicallysupport “program-once, run at any scale” capability by design, namely through built-inmulti-versioningfunctionalityacrossdifferentparallelarchitecturesandintegration/testingagainstamultitudeoftargetHPCplatforms.

StandardscompatibilityiscrucialforhighimpactandeaseofupdateoftheAllScaleresults.The standardisation activities of AllScale (Task T7.3) are focused on establishingcollaborative relations with several standardisation projects and committees (e.g. OpenCommunity Runtime, C++/MPI/OpenMP/OpenACC standardisation bodies, Open-POWERfoundation)forcompilers,runtimesystems,resiliencemanagement,andperformancetools.
3.1.2 Improvinginnovationcapacityandtheintegrationofnewknowledge
It iswidely recognised that IT advances have a great impact on engineering, science andsocietyby improvingexistingapplicationsandcreatingnewones.Suchchallenges requireinternationalcollaborationandcooperation.TheAllScaleprojectgathersabroadextentofexpertiseandknowledge,whichdemandstheinteractionofexpertsfromindustry,SMEsandacademiadispersedoverEurope.AllScalebringstogethertheknowledgeofmanypartnersfrom several European countries to contribute to this challenge. The proven backgroundknowledgeofthepartners isarealstrength,aswellas, guaranteesthattheresultingnewknowledgeistransferredtoindustrial,SMEanduniversitystakeholders.
The project has a distinctively innovative content, which affects the performance ofsimulationtools,andhenceimprovetheefficiencyofmodellingenvironmentalhazards(e.g.oil spills), weather predictions as well as the design processes in aeronautics, in theautomotive and energy industries. It most assuredly produces advanced scientific resultsandmethods.Therefore,AllScaleisanimportantstepintheEuropeanExascaletechnologydevelopment, contributing to the European leadership in HPC, and offering thereby thepotentialforthecompetitivenessoftheEuropeanaeronautical,automotive,energy,Oil&Gasindustry and European companies offering weather predictions, towards internationalcompetition. Moreover, the potential benefits of the innovative AllScale environment iswider and extends beyond the above-mentioned industries. In fact, its results affectpositivelymanyother industrieshandlinghugeamountsofdataanddealingwithcomplexcomputations.Inaddition,thecooperationatEuropeanlevelcarriedoutintheframeoftheAllScale project has a great effect on social and economic cohesion, since it grounds thecreationofanewknowledgeaswellasnetworksforfuturecollaboration.
In other settings investigatedby theproject it is possible to reach theHPCand industrialmarket (as delineated above) more easily and integrate the AllScale technology in finalproductsandservices.
3.1.3 Environmentalandsociallyimportantfactors
WithelectricityconsumptioninEurope'scomputingcentresprojectedtoreach104TWhby2020,upfrom60TWhatpresent,thereisapressingdemandinindustryforgreaterenergyefficiencytominimisebothcarbonfootprintandenergyconsumption.Meetingtheenergy-efficiency targets of future Exascale systems cannot be achieved by hardware technologyalone.Indeed,advancingthefrontonenergy-efficiencyfundamentallydependsonsoftwarethat scales efficientlyonmillionsof low-power coresand can inherently copewithpowercapsorany change in thepowerprovisioningof a system. Importantly, improvedenergy-efficiency on future Exascale systems is at odds with improved resilience [2]. The mostfundamentalmethodtoreducetheenergyconsumptionoffuturesystemsistoreducetheirvoltage supply. Reducing supply voltage negatively affects resilience, as low-voltagehardware ismore prone to timing errors. Amain objective of AllScale environment is to

achievedynamicoptimisationofprogramsforenergyconsumptionandresilienceaspartofa multi-objective optimisation strategy. In particular, AllScale seeks to minimise theexecution time, energy consumption and resource utilisation (=cost of computation) onleadership systems according to application-end-user (e.g. administrators) defined trade-offsamongthoseobjectives.Minimisingsoftwareenergyconsumptionwilldirectlytranslateto minimizing the energy footprint and total cost of ownership of supercomputersthemselves. As such, AllScale makes a significant contribution to the action plan of theEuropeancodeofconductforenergyefficiencyincomputingcentres.
Threepilot applicationsareexploredbyusing theAllScale environment toparallelise andoptimize the corresponding programs for various target HPC architectures. These pilotapplications among others also explore and model effects of the weather andelectromagneticdisturbances(iPIC3DfromKTH)onthesocialbehaviourofhumanbeings.TheAMDADOSpilotapplication from IBMpredictsenvironmentalhazardssuchasmarineoilspinswhichisofparamountimportanceintheracetounderstandsuchphenomenaandtake preventive actions or otherwise minimise damage to the environment and to localsocietiesatrisk.Finally,theFine/OpenpilotapplicationfromNUMisacomputationalfluiddynamics simulations that is widely used to improve product quality, to reduce resourcerequirements (e.g.water, oil) and energy consumption, to improve reliability of products,andtoreducetheimpactontheenvironmentwiththerespecttoCO2.WiththehelpoftheAllScale environment these pilot applications examinemuch larger and realistic problemsizes and thus study environmental, societal and industrial processes inmore detail thaneverbeforeatsimulationtimesthatscalesonsmall toextremescaleparallelarchitecturesandatthesametimewillkeepenergycostsandresourceusageundercontrol.AllScalethushave a positive effect - through the improvedpilot applications - on these environmental,societalandindustrialprocesses.
3.1.4 Frameworkconditions
Mostmajor information technology analysts such asGartner [3] and IDC [4] confirm thatHPC and also extreme scale parallel systems and their software infrastructure play animportantrole in ITnowaswellaswillbeacrucial technology in the future.Thusclearlymost application and system developers from industry, commerce and academia have todeal with the problem of how to effectively use parallel systems in terms of reducingexecution time, energy consumption and improving resource usage. A potential barrierregarding whether the expected impact can be achieved is tight to the programminglanguagesupportedbyanHPCprogrammingenvironment.Itiswidelyknown[4]thatnewlanguageshaveahighbarrier toentry.Mostapplicationdevelopersavoidadoptinganewlanguageforfearthatitwilldie,unlessthelanguagemeetssomeneedbetterthananythingelse.TheAllScaleapproachisfullycompatiblewiththewidelyusedC++industrystandardand well supported by many existing toolchains. Programming environments for C++targetingextremescalearchitecturesandapplicationsareattheforefronttoexplorefutureandhighendcomputingsystems.Researchonprogrammingenvironmentsforextremescalearchitectures – as conducted by AllScale project – represents a very important base fordomainsciencesandindustrialandcommercialproductsinafewyearstocome.
3.1.5 Measurestomaximizeimpact
The importance of maximising the impact of the AllScale project and communicating itsresultsisrecognisedandtheAllScaleconsortiumhasputinplaceawiderangeofmeasures,actions and mechanisms to achieve this. This is comprised within the exploitation,

dissemination and communication activities, including the communication of the projectresultstothescientificcommunity,industry,andthegeneralpublic.Theconsortiumaimsatthebestpossiblecommercialexploitationoftheprojectresults.
3.1.6 Targetmarketsandstakeholders
The definition of the AllScale target market is based on a clear understanding of theexploitable items that will be created during the project lifetime, in combination withrespondingtotheemergingmarketneeds.Thehigh-performancemachinesystemsoftwareis one of the primary HPC market segments targeted by AllScale. Within this segment,AllScale respondswith overcoming the today barriers in programming and extracting thefullpotential(valueformoney)oftheHPCmachinesofanyscale.TheAllScaleprogrammingenvironment,indevelopment,isalreadyshowingresults,whichwillachievethisbyallowingtheuser tocreateasingleparallelprogramsourceatahigh levelofabstraction,andoncethiscodebeingavailable,itenablestheexecutionoftherespectivebinaryversiontorunonamultitude of parallel architectures of any scale, as already demonstrated through theAllScalepilotapplicationsinfulldevelopmentprogress.Inaddition,preservescompatibilitywithwidelyusedindustrystandardsandtoolchains-asrequiredbythemajortargetmarketofAllScale - and inlinewith theproject visionof creating anHPCecosystemenvironmentthatservesthewidespreadandeffectiveusageofparallelprocessingbyacademia,industryandgovernment.IntermsofsectorialHPCmarketsegmentation,AllScalestandsinitsabilitytooptimiseprograms towards specific sectorialneeds; for example, theAllScale approachallows foroptimisingand/ortradingoffagainst theentiresetorsubsetsof functionalandnon-functionalobjectives (e.g. extremescale scalability, energyconsumption,managementofpowerenvelopes,resilienceandmore),asmandatedbytargetapplicationprioritiesandtime-to-value constraints. As such, in contrast to existing prior state-of-the-art, AllScaleoffers the ability formulti objectives optimizations at the same time, taking into accountimportant trade-offs among possibly conflicting optimization objectives and in that wayprioritisethetargetmarketsectorneeds.TheprojectclearlyreinforcesthecompetitivenessandinnovationoftheEuropeanindustry,includingspecificallySMEs.ThesetoftechnologiesunderdevelopmentinAllScaleiswidelyapplicabletomanyindustriesandsectors,includingcloud computing, gaming and video processing, computational engineering and otherapplicationsdealingwithbig-dataandextremelycomplexcomputations.TheAllScaleinnovationsoftheexploitableresultshavebeenalreadypresentedinTable5inSection1.4.2oftheproposal.Thestakeholdersinterestedintheseresultsare:

result of its innovative objectives and approach under development. It contributes tostrengthentheEuropeanresearchandindustrialleadershipinHPCtechnologies,andcreatesahugepotentialofinnovationinseveralareassuchbio-sciences,financialmodelling,naturaldisastermodelling,CAE,chemicalengineering,mechanicaldesign,weather/climate,etc.TheprojectaddressesthechallengeofachievingthetechnicalcapabilitiesneededtodeliverabroadspectrumofextremescaleHPCsystems,inordertorespondtoincreaseddemandsonenergyefficiency,newdeliverymodels, aswell as to the requirementsofnew typesofapplications,includingextreme-dataapplications(FETHPC1–2014).
Theproject is strongly contributing to the completion of theETP4HPCStrategicResearchAgenda,whilecoveringimportantsegmentsofexpandingHPCmarkets,whichareexpectedtogrowannuallyby7.6%until2018.Inaddition,theAllScaleprojectalsocontributestothedevelopment of a sustainable European HPC Ecosystem (FETHPC 2 – 2014), since theAllScaleenvironmentrespondstothekeychallengesofthenewgenerationofHPCsuchasenergyefficiency,energyconsumptionandresilience.
3.2 Impactreportingtemplate
TheAllScaleconsortiumhasadoptedtheH2020proposedtemplatetomonitortheimpactanduseitforreporting.InFigure8,thedisseminationandcommunicationactivitiesarebreakdownincategoriesandshowthenumberofactivitiesperformedtogetherwiththenumberofpersonsreachedthroughthem.

3.3 MonitoringWebsiteandSocialNetworks
Thewebsiteaccessiscontinuouslymonitoredandhasthepossibilitytotracethenumberofusers viewing it, as already reported in the deliverable D7.2 Project dissemination andcommunicationstrategyandreporting(a),wheretheGoogleAnalyticshasbeenintroduced.
Today,wehave the firstGoogleAnalytics (GA) report for theweekofMarch15-21,2017,showingthewebsiteactivity.Thereportingshowshowmanyuserscameonit,fromwhere,which language they use, the operating systemused,which page are visited, the browserused, the duration of session. It alsomakes the difference between the new visitor and areturning visitor. In that way we can capture the trend, if the project is attracting newvisitorsandopeningtotheworld,orisnotanymorenewinterestinit.
GAalsogives thevisitorsdurationonthewebsite(AverageSessionDuration), thus if theyhavebeensearchingforsomething,ortheyhavefoundtheinformationquickly.Italsogivesthe informationabout themostused resolution (smartphone/laptop), and in thatwaywecanfocusedtoimprovetheappropriatewebsitefunctionality.At this moment, there are 20 different person/computer (or session) that came to thewebsite. Follows the figures of the recently acquired information through the GoogleAnalyticsfortheAllScaleweb-site,forthenumberofvisitorsselectedbylanguage,asshowninFigure9,andthenumberofvisitorslocation(country),asshowninFigure10.Themostvisitedpageshavebeen:Homepage,News,andPublications.

By keeping track of such acquired data, which give us information on the users, theirlocation, the languagetheyuse(for thewebsite, throughGA)but the important thing is tohaveevidenceoftheevolution(ordevolution)ofourdigitalimpact(ifdoneright).It is important to mention, twitter and the social media as Facebook, gives a directcommunicationchannelbetweentheinterestedpersonandAllScale.ItcouldmaybealsobeusedasQuickResponseSupport.The most recent status of the AllScale Twitter is shown in Figure 12, having today 21followers.
Forthemoment,theAllScaleFacebookpageprocessesthesameinformationastheAllScaleTwitter profile. But it would also be interesting to link all these events, as workshopsorganizedby theAllScale consortium,with theAllScaleFacebook, inorder that suchpagecreatestheseeventstopromoteitinamorelogical/natural/organicway.
Facebookalsogivesanoptiontoanalysethedigitalfootprintoftheproject.

4 ConclusionsandFutureWorkInthisdeliverablethedisseminationmaterialcreatedtilltodayhasbeenreported,andtheimpactstrategy,asalreadyproposedintheAllScaleproposalisfollowedup.
The impact reporting strategy is put in place andwill be followed up till the project endwhenthefinaldeliverable,reportingthedisseminationresultswillbeissued,D7.3–Projectdisseminationandcommunicationstrategyandreporting(b).ItisalsowellunderstoodthattheAllScaleInternetpresence,throughtheuseofthewebsiteandsocialmedia,hastobeintensified.
