Danube Biosphere reserve was created by President degree from 10 August 1998 on the
base of nature reserve “Danube Floods”
Delta of Kiliya Branch is the youngest land in Europe
The decision of International Coordination Committee
UNESCO “Man and Biosphere” from 2 February 1999 the
reserve was included in the World Network Biosphere
Reserves within the International Romanian and Ukrainian Biosphere reserve
“The Danube Delta”.

Administration of the Reserve is situated in Vilkovo(Kiliya region, Odessa oblast, Ukraine)
Population of Vilkovo is about 7 thousands.The natural channels of the Danube forms 45% of the city, therefore
boats are the main transport in the town.
In the Danube Biosphere Reserve there are 52 employees
Structure of the reserve:
• Security Department;• Scientific Department

• Security – 15 rangers (inspectors); • Inspectors of 4 cordons (security camps) work on the rotational base;• There is a mobile rangers group.
