Auditors, undergraduate students, and credited auditors are not eligible to apply. Undergraduate students are only eligible to take the Business Japanese class.
Applications:All applicants for the General Japanese Course should submit an application through the website (http://www.oia.hokudai.ac.jp/current-students/japanese-language-support/what-class-is-right-for-me/).
This course aims at helping Monbukagakusho Scholarship students at the graduate level and in teacher training programs develop an understanding and proficiency in the Japanese language before they enroll in graduate programs.
Classes offered:Elementary Grammar, Elementary Conversation, Elementary Kanji, Elementary Reading Comprehension, Elementary Writing, and Elementary Listening Comprehension and Pronunciation
Length of course: 16 weeks
Eligibility:This course is mainly for research students on Monbukagakusho scholarships recommended by Hokkaido University; however, privately-financed research students may also be admitted if there are vacancies.
Objective: This “cooperative active learning course” centers on exchanges between Japanese students and international students via course topics in order to increase vocabulary and understanding while heightening skills that are necessary in the University environment. Eligibility: Prospective students must fulfill the following two requirements:
1) Be officially enrolled in the University as either an international student (holders of international student visas: research students, graduate students, special auditing students, special research students); or have status as an international faculty member, or international researcher. Auditing students, credited auditors, and international undergraduate students can not apply; however, international undergraduate students can apply under General Education Seminar: Multicultural Exchange2) Japanese language ability must be at advanced or above
Application and Placement Test Information:Persons wishing to enroll in the Academic Japanese Course must take the placement test. To apply online, and for more information, please visit the following link: (http://www.oia.hokudai.ac.jp/current-students/japanese-language-support/what-class-is-right-for-me/).
This credited class is offered to international students enrolled in a HU faculty that endeavor to raise their Japanese language ability beyond the University’s Japanese language requirement.
