Industry Awards and Accolades
“Network integration and compatibility was one of WAAS' biggest edges over the competition. Eighty-three percent of our respondents gave it good or excellent marks….”
Cisco's offering also scored well in the management and visibility category: 86% gave it high scores…”
“WAAS' edge in key integration factors and ease-of-use make it the compelling choice…” - Michael Morisy, TechTarget
“WAAS performed well, and Cisco has packed a ton of features into its offering for a relatively low price, earning it our Best Value designation.
Like the other products in this review, WAAS easily dropped into our network and was running in short order, with little configuration”
- Mike Fratto, Network Computing
“Cisco WAE 674 with WAAS v4.1 and Windows Server 2008 brings together the benefits of WAN optimization … and maintains the localized requirement of critical windows services like Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.”- Mike Fratto, Mike Brandenburg, Current Analysis

Reason #1 – Application Vendor Validated
“We can quickly deploy Windows Services to remote offices and -- more importantly -- better service our remote users."— Dwight Wheeler, Architect, Monsanto
Best practices developed and validated with Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and other leading ISVs (www.cisco.com/go/optimizemyapp)
Vendor-specific protocols licensed, no reverse engineering
Optimized branch architecture jointly developed with Microsoft
Escalation Support Agreements with Application vendors
“On average we experienced 300 percent in download improvement for Oracle 10g and our customized web-based commodity trading applications.”— Thomas Mendez, Supervisor of Network Operations, Enbridge
“Cisco WAAS has accelerated our SAP response time for up to 75% across WAN, and given us the best compatibility and lowest TCO.”— Jim Ward, CIO, Pacer International

Reason #2 – Network Integrated
“Cisco WAAS accelerated the Microsoft Dynamics CRM better than our current solution, while offering better performance and interoperability with VoIP.”— Dave Kizer, Director of IT, Nanometrics
Network Transparency preserves network services to ease operations
Auto-discovery that works across the full range of enterprise topologies
Only solution that can provide full firewall security with WAN optimization
Better with Voice on WAN due to integration with Router QoS
"The latest version of Cisco’s WAAS product line includes security features of special interest to us, including disk encryption and support for stateful firewall protection." — Barth Bailey, VP, Fulton Financial

Reason #3 – Lowest TCO
“We were able to increase the network performance without having to actually increase the network bandwidth.”“Network Module lowers total cost of ownership (TCO), because it is covered under Cisco maintenance service for the router, and it saves space and power”— David Gula, Sabre Holdings
Lower capex and opex with WAAS Module in Branch Router
Eliminate bandwidth upgrades and automate wide-scale delivery of live video
Minimize branch device footprint through WAAS Virtual Blades
Server offload reduces centralized file, video and software distribution servers by up to 10x
“The three-month return on investment for WAAS has been met with great approval by ADC. Likewise, our Juarez staff is elated with the 500 percent increase in application acceleration.”— Dave Brady, vice president of IT, ADC Telecom
“WAAS clearly met our needs and is the most cost-effective solution among all alternatives that we evaluated.”— Paul Babcock, Manager of Network & Computer Operations, Bissell Homecare

Managed BCDR (BackManaged BCDR (Back--up & Disaster Recovery)up & Disaster Recovery)Market Size and GrowthService Description
• Online periodic replication is the largest service but interest in real time data replication is
increasing.
• SMB market is largely untapped in terms of BCDR services.
• Since SMB customers have significantly smaller legacy investments in tape (compared with
large firms), they are more open to Disk-based backup and virtual tape libraries (VTL) for data
protection.
• Virtualization creating new BCDR opportunities: Virtual Virtual
Physical Virtual?
Key Characteristics and Trends
Live Data: This is front line storage services for the data actively being used by current applications.
Data Copying: This is the storage of a copy of data so that it can be used in the event of the front line data being destroyed, corrupted, or simply being inaccessible. This includes fire, flood, terrorism and a whole host of more mundane problems such as operator error, lost laptops, or even program error.
Archiving: This service stores a copy of the data long term because the enterprise is legally required to keep copies for long periods - e.g. banking records being kept for 7 years or some medical records being kept for 30 years. There is no requirement for this data to ever be re- loaded into live applications, but it must be kept is a form where it can be read and recovered in an unchanged form for the entire period.

Data Replication
Messages Benefits
Accelerate data replication applications between data centers to ensure better resilience
ROI: minimize WAN bandwidth used for data replicationAgility: extend distance of disaster recovery sites
Increase business resilience
Shorter data backup/replication windowsMore stringent recovery point objectives (RPO) at lower cost
Validated by EMC E-Labs (for SRDF) and NetApp (for SnapMirror)
Minimize risk in deployments
Data Point: Remind customers of the potential for internal storage – this drives data replication as a subset of another solution
