The current members of the Delca Systems’ team, have a wide range of TransportationPlanning experience over many years, from projects in KwaZulu Natal, the Eastern Cape, theWestern Cape and Mpumalanga. In KwaZulu Natal, the experience of the company dates back to1965, when the first Durban Metropolitan Transport Study was carried out. Members of our teamparticipated in the 1976 update of that study and since that time, have assisted the Durban CityCouncil with on-going studies throughout the metropolitan area, covering a full spectrum offuture planning activities.
In the early 70’s, major route location feasibility investigations were undertaken for freeways inKZN for the NDoT including sections of the N2 and N3
Local area studies, as well as regional transportation studies, have been conducted in KwaZuluNatal and a full transportation planning study carried out in the early days in Port Elizabeth.Delca Systems was involved in both of these early study processes. Various TransportationPlanning and System Management studies were also carried out in Cape Town by one of thedirectors, over a ten year period.
Much of the work in recent years has responded to the National Department of Transport’stransport policy as reflected in the White Paper, promoting the role of public transport in SouthAfrica. Delca Systems has played a leading role in a wide range of public transport relatedstudies during this period, including strategic systems planning, operations and management,infrastructure and policy studies.
More recently the company has been involved in various aspects of planning associated with therequirements of the National Land Transport Act 2009 focusing on Public Transport Planning.
Traffic Planning and Engineering
Traffic Planning and Engineering encompasses a wide spectrum of sub-disciplines rangingfrom Micro Traffic Impact Assessments, through to CBD Studies. Increasingly, much ofour work involves working with specialist town planning, urban design and in particular,environmental practices.
In respect of the current legislation, every Environmental Impact Assessment that involvesbuilding development requires a Traffic Impact Assessment, the extent and detail varyingaccording to the impact of the project.
