From Board Member Deborah Willson
Due to the current crisis, most facilities are closed. Check for updates on Channel 8001 and on website: www.delrayvillas45.com
I hope that all our homeowners and their families are well. COVID has impacted everyone’s daily life and yet here in Delray Villas I see so many acts of kindness. Neighbors helping neighbors. Even during this difficult time, the Board members have continued to work to keep our community running smoothly and looking good. The Inspection Committee recently began inspecting homes in the community. A sampling of the things that we look for at a house are: • Houses that need to be power washed or painted • Clam shells that need to be painted or power washed • Fascia boards that need to be replaced or painted • Driveways that need to be power washed or painted (stained) • Garage doors that need to be painted or repaired • Lollipop lights or mailboxes that need to be repaired or painted Please remember that if you receive a letter from the Inspection Committee to correct a problem with your house, you are still required to submit an Architectural Permit to Iris Pavey, prior to commencing any work on the outside of your house. It’s Election Time By Bernie Rosenberg
This is the time of the year when we begin to give thought of whether we want to seek a seat on either the Board of Directors or as a Board Representative to the Recreation Board of Directors. If you are willing to devote the needed time to helping keep Plat 4/5 the premier Plat of Delray Villas, all that is required right now is for you to submit a letter of intention to me indicating the selected board at [email protected]. Deadline to submit letter is November 10. We have five openings for this year’s board including the filling of two vacancies, and two openings as our representatives to the Rec Board. Your name will be put onto the appropriate ballot for our election in December. You must be a full time resident to become a Board Member.
Keep up to date with the happenings in our plat and enjoy beautiful music playing softly in the background, even if you’re on the phone, eating a meal or even ironing clothes. Tune your TV to Channel 8001 and enjoy our community channel. If you don’t receive it, contact Alan Shwartz at 561-376-4040. He is the only one who can activate it.
If you are a new resident and are not connected to 8001, the only way to get connected is to email Alan Shwartz at [email protected] with your name , address and AT&T account number. It generally takes 3 to 4 days to connect.

COVID 19 has changed life as we knew it a year ago. Case in point is doctor visits. We now must learn how to “Zoom” for a virtual visit. Our first attempt at this was unsuccessful so we resorted to a phone visit. That is fine for some things but try to describe a rash over the phone. I started to accompany Jim to his appointments after he started telling me he does not remember what the doctor told him. It was not so much he forgot as he did not think it was that important. Since most of our doctors now limit those coming into the office, I make sure he gets a summary. Recently he had to go to his retinal specialist, and I had to go along to drive him home due to his eyes being dilated. While he was being seen by the doctor, I sat out in the hall on a bench. In a few minutes, another wife showed up and sat at the opposite end of the bench. It soon became apparent that she was lonely. She preceded to tell me all about her family and pets. One thing that saddened her was the death of her dog which was her companion for 17 years. She told me she has a new pet which she takes with her everywhere. I assumed the pet was in the car as it was a nice cool fall day. I was surprised when she asked me if I wanted to meet her new pet. I said, “sure,” expecting to go outside to meet her pet. She preceded to pull out a small fabric bag from her purse. I was shocked when she pulled out a frog from her bag. She told me he sleeps with her, eats crickets and is a great pet. I asked her how she keeps him from hopping away at night and she said she wraps him up in a washcloth. Not sure if that frog is still living but meeting this lady sure passed my otherwise boring time waiting for Jim. You just never know what to expect when you strike up a conversation with a stranger.
Until next month, stay happy and healthy. Bonnie

Talk of the Town by BOB TOWNSEND
I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU, but I’ve been sleeping much better at night since I heard that Joe Namath called the Medicare Coverage Hotline and discovered he was eligible for rides to doctors’ appointments and could receive hot meals delivered at home. I’d hate to think that the former Super Bowl champ – who’s purportedly worth $18 million – couldn’t afford a cab to get to a doctor or have a Domino’s pizza delivered to his residence. AFTER HEARING the news about O.J. Simpson being charged with the murders of his ever-loving ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman and being part of the millions who watched his slow-speed chase by police on television, I couldn’t help but think he may have given a whole new meaning to the Hertz Rent-a-Car commercials that showed him running through an airport. The commercials aired a couple of decades before his arrest, but I can’t help but wonder if there was something magical and mystical about them and maybe the ad men had visions about things to come. O.J. was in such a damn hurry to make his way through the airport. Do you suppose it was a white Ford Bronco he was in such a rush to rent and get a jump on the cops? You know what should have been the next company to offer Simpson a lucrative deal to make commercials? Domino’s Pizza! That’s right, Domino’s Pizza reported record sales across the country during the Simpson chase. Literally millions of folks were glued to their television sets watching history being made. And the two-hour event took place precisely at dinner time on the West Coast and the perfect time to sit back with a slice of pizza and a beer on the East Coast. I can’t help but wonder if Joe Namath was sitting home and enjoying a Domino’s pizza as he watched O.J.’s non-escape on the tube. After O.J. was acquitted of the murders, it would have been a perfect commercial showing him driving up to a Domino’s pizza joint and have an employee hand deliver a pie to Simpson in his Ford Bronco. It would be too late for Domino’s to use Simpson in those commercials now, though. The former NFL superstar is now serving a 9-to-33-year stint in the slammer after being convicted on a subsequent arrest. YOU’D THINK, WOULDN’T YOU, with so many people and problems in the world today that God would have better things to do than talk to Peter Popoff. . . . . . About me. You’ve all seen Peter Popoff on the tube. If you look up con man in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of good ol’ Peter. I know. . . I know, it’s a very old joke and, obviously, not true. But if you Google Peter Popoff you’ll see he’s described as a German con man and Evangelist. Maybe Peter should sue the good folks at Goggle for such a description. But, of course, he can’t. This is one case in which truth is a very obvious defense. You see, back in 1986 he was exposed for wearing an earpiece during one of his miraculous faith-healing gatherings. His wife would feed him information about “strangers” in the audience, their names, addresses and ailments. And other individuals were paid to arrive at the faith-healing extravaganzas in wheelchairs and miraculously get up and walk out of the hall after Peter’s miraculous faith-healing techniques. You’ve all seen Peter peddling his Miracle Spring Water on television. Well, “peddling” is probably the wrong term to use. . . he wants to send it to you “absolutely free.” “Call me, it’s absolutely free. I’ll get it right out to you.” I called him. It was absolutely free. Only thing is, it doesn’t work unless you send Peter some money. And, when I ignored his request – demand? – for loot, he sent me follow up letter after letter describing conversations, he had had with God. . . . . . About me
