These communities are typically located in a township that
has a jamaat ghana or masjid.
SANZAF elects to perform Qurbani in these communities so
that they too can participate in the ceremony and gain a
deeper appreciation and understanding of Eid-ul-Adha.
Operation Qurbani thus also serves as a form of dawah to
the rest of the community who witness the sacrifice and
they learn about the significance of Prophet Ibrahim.
Developing Tomorrow's Leaders
Youth Serving The Community
Although SANZAF Gauteng does not have a formal
volunteer programme, it plays host to several volunteers
(mainly youth) form various schools and institutions
throughout the year.
High school learners who need to earn community hours for
university admission or as part of their school project often
approach SANZAF.
SANZAF also attracts a larger
number of volunteers for
initiatives such as Mandela
D a y , d r u g a w a r e n e s s
campaigns and Arbour Day,
albeit specifically for the
occasion.
High School learners from
SANZAF's TADA (Teenagers
Against Gangster Abuse)
Programme also joined over
100 learners in painting a
message in preparation for a
d r u g a w a r e n e s s m a r c h
through the streets of Vlakfontein and Zakariyya Park
(South of Johannesburg) on Youth Day on 16 June.
A group of learners also commemorated the launch of the
SANZAF Vodacom Career Education Programme with a
tree planting ceremony.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
SANZAF Gauteng is currently hosting three Management
Sciences students as interns who assist with various
administration tasks as well training.
The trio approached SANZAF to apply for intern positions
after Moulana Hasan Evans, Head of SANZAF's
Entrepreneurship Centre, presented information about
the centre at the University of Johannesburg.
Five months into their
internship, one of the
students embraced Islam
after learning about the
various SANZAF projects
and programmes.
It was the teachings of
charity in Islam as well as
the nature of the work
SANZAF does that led him
to Islam.
Investing In Human Capital
Many Hands Make Light Work…
In order to better meet the region's needs, SANZAF
Gauteng established its Pretoria office in January 2015
with the support of the local Baitul Maal.
SANZAF also appointed two full-time staff members,
Moulana Hussain Tawildar and Bibi Ayesha Laher, at this
office.
In December 2014, SANZAF Gauteng also appointed
Javed Hoosen as Office Manager.
This appointment forms part of SANZAF's succession
planning as Javed also serves as a trainee-administrator.
Moulana Mogamat Riedwaan Hassan was also appointed
as a full-time caseworker. Now the region is better
equipped to meet the demands of and improve the
efficiency of SANZAF Gauteng's welfare and casework.
