Commitment SundayNovember 4
Many of us have wonderful memories of our church: our children being baptized, ouryouth making their public professions of faith, beautiful weddings, and times we met tosay our final goodbyes to our loved ones as they have gone to go be with the Lord. Wehave made new friends and continued to see old ones.
It is time again for church members to decide how they will support our church this com-ing year. The Budget Team will meet in November to establish the 2013 Operating Budget
based on our pledges, giving history and estimated operating expenses.
Why do we make a commitment to the Operating Fund of our church?
It makes us feel good. It might make us feel good, but that is not enough reason topledge.
We feel guilty if we dont. Again, we might feel guilty, but that feeling will pass
shortly.
We get a tax deduction. This is true, but any charity will give a tax deduction.
We give TOGLORIFY GOD through the ministries of our church.
Discuss your pledge with your family. Include the children in your discussion. Be prepared
to make your commitment on Sunday, November 4.

October is such a fun month here at DPPK. Newport News Fire De-partment Station #9 stopped by with both their engine and their laddertruck. The firefighters came into our classrooms to demonstrate Stop,Drop, and Roll and Stay Low and Go. They taught about fire safety andshowed off all of their gear.
The very next week brought a visit from Officer Livingston, who is aCommunity Resource Officer with the Newport News Police Department.Officer Livingston talked about the importance of wearing our helmetswhile bike riding, and gave a demonstration of his special vehicle called a
Segway! The children also were able to view his police department vehi-cle. They loved seeing the flashing lights and hearing the loud siren. Offi-cer Livingston told them that police officers are here to help them, and hespoke to them about how to be safe on Halloween night while trick-or-treating.
Speaking of Halloween, we will have our annual Halloween costumeparades on October 30 and 31 right after carpool. Please stop by to watchus if you have the time. If the weather cooperates we will be outside inthe parking lot, but if it is raining we will parade around the sanctuary. I
hope you can join us!

Pastor Deborah Dailc/o Denbigh Presbyterian Church
302 Denbigh Blvd.
Newport News, VA 23608
Dearly beloved friends at Denbigh,
I now need help from someone to write this letter to you so that you may beable to more easily read it. At the end of August, I began my fourth year here at thePresbyterian Home in Easley, SC with the full intent of being able to visit with youfrom time to time. This is almost impossible now because of two things: 1. I amrestricted to a wheelchair and 2. I am on a catheter that has to be monitored threetimes daily.
All of this eliminates visits from me to you but not you to me. Several of youhave been here over the three years and you cannot believe how much that has meant
to me! You are welcomed any time.
The other reason for inability to communicate well is the phone system. It is
difficult to the point of being impossible for me to use due to my poor hearing.
I am beginning to improve slightly from time to time and look forward to a visitfrom any of you. May God continue to bless you as he has me. I love you all!
