Some basic facts… • Every 20 second a child is being killed due to water

borne diseases around the world • 37.7m people are affected by water borne

diseases In India • 1.5 million children are estimated to die of

diarrhea in India • 73 million working days are lost In India • As per World Bank’s estimate poor water &

sanitation practices cost us 6.4% of GDP or 53.8% billion or 2.4 Trillion every year

• Open defection is the biggest source of source of pollution and contamination

Some basic facts… • Census 2011 reveals that more than 50% Indian are ease

themselves in open• More than 75% households have mobiles, TVs, etc. • Each gram of human feces contains – 10,00,0000 viruses,

1,00,000 bacteria, 1,000 parasites cysts and 100 parasite eggs

• More than 70% of our rural population do not have access to safe sanitation practices

• Open defection is the biggest sources of contamination & pollution

• Poor sanitation practices results in many water borne diseases includes, fever, jaundice, cholera, diarrhea, skin disease, etc

Promotion of Sanitation Societies

• Failed SHG movement • Multiple borrowings & lending • Promoting habit of Hygiene savings & thrift • Willing to invest in hygiene assets like water,

sanitation, RWH, Incinerators, MHM, etc • 17 Women Sanitation societies with 311 families with

savings of Rs.4 lakh• Promotion of Sanitation Federation • MHM profiles, free distribution of seeds, saplings,

sanitary pads, hygiene kits, etc • 262 families have taken loans and 162 completed

Convergence of NBA & MNREGAS

• Reducing corruption and creating real assets than GHOST ASSETS

savings of > Rs. 4 L• Pledge to use toilets- adopt design of LEAF

loans • Rs.10,000 – 10m installments • Loans for water connection, RWH, tanks,

Incinerators, etc.

Impact of Water & Sanitation Projects • 1700 Units have been completed & 1000 units are

under progress• Generated 19,500 person days of employment • Tons of human waste have been disposed off safely

( 750 MTs Approximately)• 2166 Male, 2241 Female and 1551 Children are

using toilets• Average cost of a toilet Rs. 23,500 - Lowest Rs.

8,000 – Rs. 1, 00,000• Generating Rs.65 millions for sanitation with input

of Rs. 3 million from ARGHYAM Foundation
