examine the implications of potential regulatory policy
options.

* Area of new Actions
Chronic Disease Management
Key issues:
- Chronic diseases account for 70% of total healthcare
expenditures in Greece
- Incidence is growing due to aging and lifestyle
behaviors
Use of IT as a key asset:
• Central patient management system
• Mobile and e-Health platforms
• Faster communication between stakeholders
• Consulting
• Patient education, motivation and involving in own
health management
• Tools that help & engage patients on daily basis
• Registries: understanding variations in care, which
might lead to better outcomes and lower costs
* Step forward
• Whereas the last 5 years, many platforms and integrating
information systems have been developed, there still remain
unanswered questions about interoperability of these
systems.
• The next step forward should be the ability of making systems
and organizations to work together (ESYnet, HDIKA, KMES,
eDAPY, TAXISnet, patient summary, etc) and allow information
exchange in a unified IS.
• This can be only realistically addressed if Ministries, legal
entities and stakeholders will cooperate to assess today’s
demands and address affectively the needs considered to be
served through specific applications and be appropriately
incorporated into the current systems.
*Thank you.
