8. INFORMATION ON THE NATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

The Education system in KSA consists of the following stages: Pre-Primary education: Pre-Primary Education is compulsory for all children between 4 – 6 years old. Children above 3 are also accepted. This level of education aims to satisfy the children’s needs for the development of a wholesome personality in an experiential environment which enables them to recognize their capabilities and enhance their skills.
Primary Education:
Primary Education is compulsory for all children over the age of 6. The duration of Primary Education is of 6 years. The aim of Primary Education is to create and secure the necessary learning opportunities for children regardless of, gender, family and social background, and mental abilities.
Modulate Educations
Modulate Education offers three-year cycles of education to the pupils between the ages of 12 and 15. The curriculum includes core subjects, interdisciplinary subjects and a variety of extracurricular activities
Secondary Education:
Secondary General Education offers three-year cycles of education to the pupils between the ages of 15 and 18. The curriculum includes core lessons, interdisciplinary subjects and a variety of extracurricular activities. Instead of the Secondary General Education, the pupils may choose to attend Secondary Technical and Vocational Education which provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce or pursue further studies.
Higher Education:
Higher education in KSA is provided by a number of Government Higher Education Institutions and a large number of Private Higher Education Institutions.
Government Higher Education Institutions:
Government Higher Education Institutions offer vocational programs of study with a duration ranging from one to 6
academic years. These programs do not provide access to second cycle programs.
Private Higher Education Institutions:
The higher education is also provided by a number of private institutions which are registered with the Ministry of Education. Some of these institutes have branches in other cities of KSA besides Riyadh. The private institutions of higher education offer both academic and vocational programs of study at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
NCAAA (National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment):
NCAAA (National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment), which is a member of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), is the competent authority for quality assurance and accreditation of the institutions and programs offered by them. At present, a number of programs and institutions have been evaluated and accredited by NCAAA. These programs fall in the following categories:

The establishment of NCAAA was approved by the Council of Ministers of KSA. The aim of this Commission is to promote quality assurance in both the public and the private institutions of higher education through various measures which include external accreditations and development of internal quality culture. The Commission is recognized both locally and globally for the quality and effectiveness of its contributions to continue improvements in the quality of post-secondary education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
