So close to Minneapolis we share a zip code.
St. Louis Park is a progressive suburb located immediately west of downtown and uptown Minneapolis. Just five minutes from downtown, visitors can experience the attractions, events and excitement of a major metropolitan area and still enjoy a small town feel.
St. Louis Park is a great place to experience all of the area’s amenities: the Chain of Lakes, the downtown theaters and museums, diverse shopping and dining options, prime event facilities, world-class universities and major league sporting events.
St. Louis Park has more than 50 parks (an impressive 11.5 percent of St. Louis Park’s land is set aside for parks) and expansive bike trails link St. Louis Park to downtown Minneapolis, the Uptown area, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Chaska.
St. Louis Park and the entire metro area provide plenty of activities – both indoors and out – to create lasting memories.
The arts are alive here.
St. Louis Park is proud of its connections to the arts and is home to two theatre companies and other performance groups, as well as a variety of visual artists.
Just five short minutes to downtown Minneapolis.

St. Louis Park’s summer concert series hosts top-notch regional and local performers in Veterans’ Memorial Amphitheater at Wolfe Park and other venues throughout the city.
World-class museums, breathtaking architecture and more theater seats per capita than any U.S. city outside New York makes this area a premier arts destination. Take in a show at the Guthrie
Theater, one of the area’s Tony award-winning theaters. Discover treasures at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Take in the world-renowned sounds of The Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Opera. View incredible art at the Walker Art Center and sculpture garden – hailed by Newsweek as “possibly the best contemporary art museum in the country.”

We’re game for whatever you want to watch (or play).
Minnesota has six professional sports teams – Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx, and Minnesota Swarm thrill fans all year long. The Saint Paul Saints semi-professional baseball team and Minnesota Thunder semi-professional soccer team are crowd favorites as well.
Recreation happens here all year long – indoors and out.
We love to be active. It should be no surprise that Minneapolis is the American Fitness Index’s “Fittest City in America.” Lakes galore, the most bike-friendly metro area in the nation, and hundreds of parks will keep you on the go.
Biking and walking trails connect St. Louis Park to downtown Minneapolis, the chain of lakes and surrounding Western suburbs. St. Louis Park’s
Rec Center and Wolfe Park offer a 20,000 square foot aquatic park, two ice skating rinks, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, fishing opportunities, private rental spaces and walking trails.
Minnesota is famously known for its 10,000 lakes and many of the most popular ones can be found close to St Louis Park. Visitors and residents alike enjoy sail boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming and paddle boarding at local lakes. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes including Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake of The Isles, Cedar Lake and Lake Nokomis. Lake Nokomis is the site of the nationally televised Lifetime Fitness Triathlon. And, to our west, the impressive in scale Lake Minnetonka is a water lover’s paradise.
Racers also take to the streets in numerous marathons, half-marathons, 10-mile races and 5K events throughout the Twin Cities - all year long. The Twin Cities Marathon, held in fall, is dubbed “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America.”

Call of the wild.
St. Louis Park’s Westwood Hills Nature Center’s walking trails come alive with critters, waterfowl and foliage. In summer, Westwood Lake is a fishing paradise - whether by canoe or off the dock. In winter, snowshoes and kick sleds are available for rent. Plus, the Nature Center’s resident naturalists host interactive classes throughout the year.
Three zoo and aquarium facilities can be found in the Twin Cities. The Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley is home to exhibits that provide up-close experiences with animals and their habitats, introducing guests to species from around the globe.
Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul houses animals and plants from around the world in a metropolitan setting. Sea Life Aquarium at Mall of America gives visitors a glimpse at over 10,000 creatures in their underwater home.
Getting crafty.
Minnesota is becoming well known for its craft beers and wineries. St. Louis Park is home to Steel Toe Brewing, a new craft brewery, and Warehouse Winery, a local winery; both offer tours, check their websites for details. Other breweries, such as Surley, Fulton, Summit and others can also be found throughout the Twin Cities.

Arts & Entertainment
Mu Daiko, Wolfe Park
Arts and culture are alive and thriving in St. Louis Park and the Twin Cities.
St. Louis Park is where you’ll find theatre troupes Public Theater of Minnesota and Maggie’s Farm Theater.
Veterans’ Memorial Amphitheater in Wolfe Park hosts concerts, dance troupes, theater and special events. The City of St. Louis Park’s annual summer concert series and Parktacular’s Saturday night concerts are held in the Amphitheater.
St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts (FoTA) is an active nonprofit community organization dedicated to supporting, promoting, and enhancing the arts in St. Louis Park. They connect people and organizations around the arts, share arts-
related information and resources, and coordinate community arts programs. In 2012, FoTA will host “Our Town 2012 - Beats & Streets” which will include drum performances, drumming workshops and drum circles at Wolfe Park.
St. Louis Park Community Education provides lifelong learning in arts and crafts related programming including knitting, painting, poetry, pottery and more.
The ShowPlace ICON Theatres at The Shops at West End boasts 16 digital screens and every seat in the theater is reserved. Two VIP theaters are reserved for those ages 21 and over with a full bar and restaurant nearby. Mann St. Louis Park Cinema 6 also offers a convenient place to see new releases.

For an awesome concert experience, country and rock fans love Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill which offers national and local acts nearly all week long.
If active entertainment is more your style, The Park Tavern and Texa-Tonka Lanes provide bowling fun and Roller Garden provides old-school roller skating.
The Shops at West End plays host to numerous block parties, family activities , special events and the popular Twin Cities Film Fest which premiers some of the best local and nationally produced films.
Every Father’s Day weekend in June, St. Louis Park comes alive with Parktacular, a community celebration for families and singles alike. The festival offers concerts, hands-on activities, a parade, competitions, an art hunt, a senior dinner and much more.
The City of St. Louis Park’s Westwood Hills Nature Center plays hosts to numerous special events and educational opportunities all year long.
Sabes Jewish Community Center houses The Center for Jewish Arts and Humanities which is dedicated to engaging the community in the exploration of Jewish identity and culture through film, theatre, visual arts and ideas.
St. Louis Park Community Education offers hands-on art programs throughout the year – classes in pottery, painting and more. For more details, go to slpcommunityed.com.

2012 Event CalendarWhen it comes to finding culture in the Twin Cities, the area doesn’t disappoint.
Minnesota is known across the globe for its diverse selection of live music, dance
performances, theater, festivals, museums and more. The Twin Cities boasts more
theater seats per capita than any other U.S. city outside New York. The Tony award
winning Guthrie Theater produces shows that premiere here before heading to
Broadway. And, the area hosts national touring artists nearly every night of the week.
Here’s a partial list of what’s coming up in St. Louis Park and surrounding areas.

Minnesota’s streets, roads and highways provide transportation for a variety of vehicles—cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles. By following eight rules of the road, bicyclists and motorists can share the road more safely and enjoyably. After all, bicycle safety is a two-way street. For more information, visit www.sharetheroadmn.org. 1. Bicyclists may ride on all Minnesota roads, except where res tricted.2. Bicyclists should ride on the road, and must ride in the same direction as traffic.3. Motorists must at all times maintain a three-foot clearance when passing a bicyclist.4. Bicyclists must obey all traffic control signs and signals, just as motorists.5. Motorists and bicyclists must yield the right-of-way to each other. 6. Bicyclists must signal their turns and should ride in a predictable manner.7. Bicyclists must use a headlight and rear reflectors when it's dark. To increase visibility, add a rear flashing light. 8. Bicyclists should always wear helmets.

1. Bicyclists may ride on all Minnesota roads, except where restricted.2.

Relocation GuidePolitician and former comedian Al Franken, “Fargo” and “The Big Lebowski” writers and directors Ethan and Joel Cohen, Semisonic front man and songwriter for Adele, Dan Wilson, acclaimed guitarist, Sharon Isbin, Pulitzer Prize winning author, Thomas L. Friedman, and “Funkytown” songwriter, Steve Greenberg have all called St. Louis Park home. These famous figures – and our over 45,000 non-celebrities – make our city truly special.
A survey conducted in 2009 for the City of St. Louis Park found that 95 percent of residents take pride and ownership in their neighborhood and a full 97 percent of residents rated the city’s quality of life as “excellent” or “good.”The research company said the 97 percent quality of life rating is the highest of any area suburb.
Affordable housing, low crime rates, and close proximity to parks, entertainment, shopping and dining all make the city a top pick for people relocating to the Twin Cities.
St. Louis Park has 35 active neighborhood associations who work together to unify the community through special events and neighborhood beautification programs.
St. Louis Park has also been recognized nationally for its quality educational
institutions and youth programs. Children First, an inititive that brings the community together to support children and teens, is based in St. Louis Park. The city has been named one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People” by America’s Promise the past five consecutive years.
St. Louis Park Public Schools have been recognized nationally by Newsweek magazine as the second best high school in Minnesota and 107th in the nation.
In the state known for hockey and skating, St. Louis Park schools can hold their own. Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys high school hockey won the state championship in 2012 and many St. Louis Park Senior High School alumni have gone on to accomplish great things.

Relocation Guide
Class of 1995 St. Louis Park High School graduate Erik Rasmussen played hockey for the University of Minnesota and the NHL, and was named Mr. Hockey Minnesota. Class of 2005 Park alum Angie Keseley played for the Wisconsin Badgers and the U.S. Women’s National hockey team. Years earlier, former St. Louis Park residents made a name for themselves on the ice. Robert “Bob” Owen helped the 1960 U.S.A. Olympic team earn gold. Earl Bartholome played professional hockey from 1933 to 1952, and his brother, Ken Bartholome, won 14 national speed skating titles and a silver medal at the 1948 Winter Olympics.
A solid history. St. Louis Park was incorporated in 1886 and has come a long way since its humble beginnings of 350 people (45 families). Today over 45,000 residents call St. Louis Park home and thousands of visitors and business people flock to the area to work, play and relax.
One such play area has been roadside parks. All but gone now, the roadside parks of Highway 100 were nothing less than a phenomenon – families came out to the highway just for the ride and to picnic among the lilacs. The furniture was stone and the three-family barbeque grills took the name “beehives” (shown above left).
The roadside parks were constructed in 1939 out of limestone cut from along
the Minnesota River. There were originally six such parks but today
only three exist. In 2009, one of the “beehives” was saved and moved to a Lilac Park along the bike path off Highways 100 and
7. The historic Milwaukee Road Depot (shown above right) was listed
in the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 and moved to Jorvig Park in 1970. Today it is maintained by the St. Louis Park Historical Society and open to the public on Saturdays throughout the summer.
St. Louis Park is also home to the oldest operating Jewish newspaper, American Jewish World, which started in 1912. Today, the publication unites the main Jewish communities in St. Paul and Minneapolis, as well as those in Duluth, Rochester and smaller cities, and bridges the divides between the various Jewish religious streams.

Relocation Guide
St. Louis Park has always been progressive when it has come to industry and commerce. The original bundt pan (shown on page 58) was developed in St. Louis Park by Nordic Ware over 60 years ago. Miracle Mile Shopping Center (shown at top right) opened its first store in 1951 and still thrives today. Excelsior & Grand, a high-end mixed use development of residential and commercial spaces broke ground in 2001 and opened phase one in 2003. In 2009, The Shops at West End opened their doors with an impressive mix of retail stores, one-of-a-kind restaurants and a 14 screen state-of-the-art movie-theater. New multi-use developments are also opening at impressive numbers in St. Louis Park – Ellipse on Excelsior opened in 2011 and four large, high-end apartment complexes are being built in the coming years throughout the city.
Park Nicollet Clinics and Methodist Hospital got their start in St. Louis Park in 1951 (seeing five patients the first day and making $16). Park Nicollet affiliates offer an impressive range of medical services, including the International Diabetes Center. In 2009, Park Nicollet Melrose Institute (shown above bottom) opened as a world-class clinic specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. Park Nicollet has expanded throughout the Twin Cities and still call The Park home.
Today, St. Louis Park is a vibrant, friendly community flourishing with a diverse population. Residents choose The Park to be comfortably close to the best of what the Twin Cities has to offer.

Relocation GuideSt. Louis Park is also known for its diverse religious populations. The oldest church in the city,
Union Congregational Church, was formally organized in 1883 with 17 charter members
and is the oldest church in St. Louis Park. The Park’s first synagogue, B’nai Abraham, was
built in 1958. Today there are several active Jewish synagogues in St. Louis Park. The Park is
the only community in the area with an eruv (a line delineating an area in which Orthodox Jews
may carry on certain activities normally forbidden on the Sabbath). In 1964 the Sabes Jewish
Community Center opened in their current St. Louis Park location. Today over 25 religious
congregations call The Park home.
