Dr. Jahangir Achakzai is Associate Dean and Associate Professor (TTS) of Economics at the
University of Balochistan (UOB). He has worked as Dean Faculty of Management Sciences of UOB
during 2009-10. Dr. Achakzai completed his PhD in Economics from University of Balochistan and
WTO Secretariat Geneva, Switzerland in 2006. He has been serving the University as faculty member
for the last 25 years (1990-2015), most recently as Head of the Economics Department. He serves on
several high-level committees/ commissions and taskforces of the government. He is also a referee for
numerous academic journals. His research interests lie in the areas of international trade, regional trade,
development economics; and agricultural economics. He has authored or co-authored more than 50
articles, book chapters and professional reports. He is the author of District Profile (Gazetteer) of
Loralai; Chaghi; Kech; Kharan; Barkhan; Khuzdar, and Kech (Updated Version 2003) under the Dutch
Govt: Project “Improving the System of Development Planning in Balochistan (IMPLAN) in
collaboration with Planning & Development Department Government of Balochistan Quetta.
He has a blend of work experience as “Socio-economic Consultant” with International organizations
like; UNDP, UNICEF, USAID, WORLD BANK, Asian Development Bank, EU, Dutch government,
and CRS international , national organizations including; PARC, PCRWR, Ministry of women
development, Ministry of Social welfare, P & D Department and Supreme court Pakistan. As consultant
his research reports include “Minority communities‟ empowerment to protect their rights and promote
understanding for peace, tolerance and equity for conflict prevention” (2009) to European Community
(EC). “Extension interventions through Public and private sector in agriculture of Balochistan” (2008)

His academic research has appeared in International Journal of Humanities and Social Science USA;
International Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences; Pakistan Development Review, Lahore
Journal of Economics; FWU Journal of Social Sciences; Central Asia Journal; Sarhad Journal of
Agriculture; Pakistan Economic and Social Review etc.
Being HEC recognized Supervisor in economics, he has supervised one PhD, 8 MPhil and 35 Master‟s
theses.
Research Interest: International trade, regional trade, agricultural (Horticulture) development,
Livestock development; poverty analysis; child labor; impact assessment studies.
