Plan your life
plan your life was a week long project carried out the week before dragon’s den started.
plan your life was set to ensure that the project that we were about to take on was ensuring we had a direction and a purpose that was to get us to where we need to be at the end of our degree with a portfolio to take to potential employees.
This image shows where i want to position myself to be at the conclusion of my degree. concentrating on service design and design thinking approaches i want to ensure i take on a project that covers an area i have not yet covered to ensure i have a well rounded portfolio to show to design companies in 2016.
I want to build on some aspects that i have already shown strength in such as website design and branding and build while taking on a new issue that i have not yet approached. I want to build my adobe skills especially in inDesign and Illustrator.

From my brain dumps i identified a ‘problem’ to deal with - ensuring tertiary students can maintain a healthy diet. This is something I struggled with at university and so I feel like it’s a problem I personaly want to tackle and come up with a solution for. Where to start? I think that if i take this problem and go through a design thinking process I will have a multi-functional platform that I will be proud to present to the dragon’s.

The Lifestyles for Well-being projectThis program aims to teach people how to change their habits, develop or adapt routines that support a healthier, more enjoyable and satisfying lifestyle. Components will include education, discussion and group problem solving and individual sessions.http://www.aih.aut.ac.nz/community
This programme is however aimed at peoplewith problems such as arthritis rather than general well being. Unlikely for students to seek out these clinics
talk with students
were given no nutritional information o weekI also found it extremely hard to find any information about doctors or health clinics ontheir website.
Summary
through breif talks to students at these universities, their health clinics and searching their websites it was very hard to find any nutritional information anywhere that was easily available to students. This has made me feel there is a need for a a service to be put in place to improve the way students recieve information and try promote healthy eating habits while studying.
Healthy eating in students do we need to address this problem ????.
Target market
name of website
in 2013 there were approx 105,000 tertiary students between in the under 17 catagory to the age of 24.
round table 1
Brief is written – still very broad.
Timetable has been made with room for changes – It is based around the double diamond approach of discover, define, develop and deliver.
Last week and this week have been set for research as I think I am really going to need a lot of knowledge behind this project.
Have spoken to students at EIT, AUT and Auckland University students about nutritional information given to them and found that there is not a lot.
Have visited EIT medical centre – was told about clinics at Napier Medical Centre and have been given contact there to call. I was also given a contact for a nutritionist at Greenmeadows Doctors to contact who may be more approachable.
Spoke to Wendi Wolfen Duvall – health education resource co-ordinator at Wellesley Road Medical Centre.
I have also started research NZ Tertiary statistics.
120 000 tertiary students enrolled in 2013. 87.6% were between the ages of 17-24 . Haven’t been able to find 2014 stats but could do that this week.
So in NZ that does give me a rough target market of 105,000 in NZ alone
How do I reach these people and convince them that they need to be more aware of their health?
I’ve also been looking at other health websites and apps.Food journals in particular – all seem really calorie and weight loss based rather than general well being and feeling. I could approach this type of idea but with a more holistic approach.
I’ve also started thinking about affective ways to present which could also be promotional of my product and service and thought that a video would probably be a good option as it could be real life but that could be getting ahead of my self.
Problems
Does this have potential for a profitable business?
Plans for this week
Continue research of other products – really analyse what is working/not working.
Contact• Deb Bednarrel – nutritionist that is aware of clinics run in HB that are available to students. • Avril Turvey – holistic nutritionist. • Talk to more eit students• Define brief

I am unsure whether redistributing other companies products would work for students as the return buyer may not be a large number due to their low budgets. Using ingredients will be more economical i belive - also will teach students to cook for themselves and how easy it is.
summary:i personally found the websites with a lot of information and a lot of options overwhelming and hard to choose which would potentially put me off using their services. i like that there is nutritional information - however not a lot of people understand these, especially when they are not particularly interested - i could maybe make an easy to read nutrition fact sheet to go with each package.
Healthy eating - the benifits of snacking
Why eating little and often is best - excerts
by HELEN FOSTER, Daily Mail
Research from market analysts Datamonitor has found that the average Briton doesn’t have time to sit down for a big meal three times a day and, instead, is more likely to fit in
five or six mini ‘meals’.
The result is we’ve become a snack-obsessed society. There are coffee bars and sandwich shops on every corner, and companies are coming up with endless new ways to
package foods we can eat on the run.
But while all this may sound like it’s harming our health, nutritionists are welcoming our move away from traditional eating patterns.
‘Grazing was the way our body was designed to eat,’ says nutritionist Antony Haynes. ‘Large meals burden the digestive system, often causing bloating and lowered energy
while the body struggles to digest them.
‘By eating smaller meals you prevent this, and the body functions more efficiently throughout the day.’ When we eat a big meal, the sugar level in our blood rises, but once that
meal is digested that blood sugar level falls, taking your energy and mood with it.
The problem is, the bigger the meal, the bigger the crash - and the higher your need for sugary snacks to refuel your body.
‘The regular influx of food with a little-and-often approach keeps your energy level stable and makes it easier for you to cope with everything you have to do in a day,’ says
nutritionist Natalie Savona.
And it’s not just energy and sugar levels that stay stable. According to the Medical Research Council’s Human Nutrition unit, measurements of fatty acids in the blood also
remain stable when you eat little and often.
This is good news because peaks and troughs in these have been shown to increase risk of heart disease.
Finally, done properly, the little-and-often approach makes it easier to get all the nutrients you need.
On average, the three-meals-a-day eater relies on the same six to seven foodstuffs - whereas, for optimum health, doctors say we should be aiming for 16 different types over
two or three days.
‘When we studied eating patterns, we found that regular grazers actually had healthier diets than those eating the traditional three square meals a day approach,’ says Dr
Sandra Drummond from Queen Margaret’s University College in Edinburgh.
‘They ate less fat, more carbohydrates and more fruit and vegetables. Other studies have found grazers to have higher levels of vitamin C and other nutrients - they also tend
to have lower levels of body fat.’
Natalie Savona says: ‘The problem is that people see the word “snackî and think chocolate or crisps. But these high-fat, high-sugar foods contain little or no nutrients and are
loaded with calories, boosting risk of weight gain.’
So what should you be doing to make your snack attacks work for you?
The most important thing is to set yourself what the Americans call a calorie salary. ‘Snacking works against people when they add the extra food on top of their normal daily
intake - rather than adjusting portion sizes accordingly,’ says Dr Drummond.
‘You’re not trying to live out of wrappers,’ says Antony Haynes. ‘That’s when the snacking approach fails. Instead, you should ensure that every time you eat, the food is low in
fat and ideally freshly prepared.
‘You need lots of fruit and vegetables and, to maximise effects, you should also ensure that whenever you eat carbohydrates you combine them with a little protein because
this stabilises blood sugar further.’
If this is too hard at first - it takes a while to adjust mentally to smaller portions, plus getting used to preparing food and stopping to eat more often - then take the split meal
approach.
If you normally have toast, cereal and fruit for breakfast, have the cereal first, the toast and fruit an hour later.
At lunchtime, eat half your sandwich with a piece of fruit, then have the other half an hour later with some soup or a small salad; eat a smaller dinner than normal then have
more fruit, a yoghurt or a small sandwich an hour later.
Sit down with your family, talk about the day and enjoy the flavours of the food. All that’s different is how much is on your plate not how much you should enjoy it.’

Ambassadors
ambassadors serve as a public marketing platform.
The brand ambassador is a marketing model that employs trusted, credible personalities to promote and give greater visibility to its brand products. But outside of the traditional, big money advertising world, where famous actors or sport stars are utilized as “ethical” promotional promoters of unique events or services, the idea of a new kind of brand ambassador, a grassroots conceived-one, has yet to trickle down the marketing strategies adopted by successful companies.
