Eine DRG ist eine Gruppe von Patienten mit ähnlichen klinischen Merkmalen, derenBehandlung zugleich einen vergleichbar hohen Ressourcenverbrauch aufweist.
DRG-Systeme sind medizinisch-ökonomische Patientenklassifikationssysteme, diePatienten jeweils genau einer Fallgruppe zuordnen.

Anreiz- Leistung
Effektive Instrumente zur Krankenhausvergütung sollten die Leistungserbringer dazu
motivieren, die Patienten angemessen mit medizinisch notwenigen und qualitativ
hochwertigen Leistungen zu versorgen. Darüber hinaus sollten sie die Balance zwischen
Anreizen zur Leistungserbringung und Anreizen zur Kostenkontrolle finden und somit zu
einer steigenden Effizienz beitragen. Gleichzeitig sollte jedoch der administrative Aufwand
gering sein und das Vergütungssystem zu steigender Transparenz in der
Leistungserbringung beitragen.
