Welcome to the second Directory of Social Enterprises.
We hope that this directory will be a resource for public, statutory, voluntary sector and social enterprises and in fact anyone with an interest in social enterprises! The purpose of this directory is to increase awareness of the range of social enterprise activity within Dundee. The Directory provides information of use to social enterprises themselves, those that are new to the concept of social enterprises and those that can make use of social enterprises and their work.

Deaf Links are developing the social enterprise arm of their organisation
to provide a community cafe and meeting/training/conference room hire
available to all members of the local community and beyond. This, along
with extending their current programme of British Sign Language and
Deaf Awareness Training to organisations, community groups,
individuals and statutory agencies will provide a regular income to pay
the bills and continue to develop services, activities and learning
opportunities as required by deaf people.
Deaf Links have worked in partnership with Dundee Deaf Sports and
Social Club (DDSSC) and Tayside Deaf Forum (TDF) to secure suitable
premises and create Tayside Deaf Hub. It is anticipated that employability
issues can be addressed through the social enterprises of the No.23 Cafe
and room hire and hopefully job opportunities will be created for deaf
people. Tayside Deaf Hub will provide a wide range of activities and
learning opportunities for Deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and deafblind
people such as computer classes, health information sessions, family
history classes, slimming classes, literacy and numeracy sessions, youth
club, art classes, lip-reading, dance, lunch club, walking groups,
employability classes.... the list is endless and new ideas are being put
forward all the time.

Carolina House Trust is an educational charity originally constituted in 1815 as the Dundee Orphanage, but today operational under the constitution approved by the Court of Session in June 2001.
We provide individual packages of care and support to young people
with complex needs from anywhere in Scotland, although the key priority
areas we offer a service to, as defined in our constitution, are Dundee
City, Angus and Perth & Kinross.
Within Carolina House Trust we are continually adapting our services to
ensure we meet the individual needs of young people. We strive to
ensure the highest quality of care at all times meeting all regulations and
exceeding national standards. We have a dedicated team of staff through
the Trust providing direct services to young people, with additional staff
providing support services across the organisation. As well as providing
social care services to young people in Scotland the Trust has developed
a range of services aimed at offering young people different life changes.
One such example is the Trust‘s Boat Project, where volunteers work
alongside the Trust‘s captain, care staff and a young person with the
trust on the Carolina 1815 - a 43 foot sailing ketch. The Carolina 1815 is
available for hire by organisations.
