The sights, smells and sounds associated with our pastime

Players on the teams participating in this tournament all wore pink arm bands. One team in the 12U division even wore pink jerseys, and for twelve year old boys, that is most certainly a brave fashion statement!
The Strike Out Baseball Cancer tournament was started two years ago by Angie Tillson with the intention to raise money for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Research Fund. She started the tournament in support of her sister-in-law, who in 2008 at 33-years-old was diagnosed with breast FDQFHU%HWZHHQ$QJLHDQGKHUVLVWHULQODZWKH\KDYH¿YHER\VZKRDOOORYHbaseball. Inspired by their love of baseball, they set out to raise money and play baseball for the Susan G Komen charity by hosting a baseball charity tournament. They devote a tremendous amount of time and energy to stage this event, but this year the hard work paid dividends with an increase in the number of teams who participated. Thirty-one teams in all joined the event, with over $9700 raised. Overwhelmed by the support from all the baseball teams who chose to play in the tournament and the wonderful feedback they received, Angie Tillson said,” Baseball is so much more than just a sport but, an opportunity to teach life lessons to our boys.”
The Knights have enjoyed a fun summer tournament schedule, coached by Daune Kramer, Bart Wilson, and Vats Narayan.

Walton Youth Track Club
Walton Youth Track Club (WYTC) - East Cobb Youth Program since the mid-1990’s!
The Walton Youth Track Club is a Track and Field and Cross Country running club for girls and boys ages 5 to 15 which participates in Northwest Georgia Youth Track League, AAU, and USATF sanctioned meets.
Our Track & Field season usually begins in March where we begin to train our young athletes the fundamentals of running and competing in track meets. This year we practiced at Tritt Elementary and Walton High School.
WYTC Cross-Country is conducted in the fall and prepares youth runners to compete in trail runs across several types of terrain at distances ranging from 1.2 to 3.1 miles.
WYTC has grown over the years. This year we had close to 200 eager and willing participants.
Runners are divided into different age groups such as Sub-bantam, Bantam, Midget, Youth, Intermediate, and Young.
2XUFRDFKLQJVWDIILVPDGHXSRIGHGLFDWHG86$7)&HUWL¿HGCoaches, Experienced Runners, Parent Coaches, and Walton HS Track & Field / CC runners. WYTC is fortunate to have a NFL Pro Tyrone Poole volunteer his time working with our team. Coaches incorporate warm-ups, stretching, running drills, and cool-down routines every practice session. Everyone works together to create an experience that is both fun and competitive.
The success of our program is due to the dedication of our athletes, the commitment of our coaches and the strong participation of our parent volunteers.

Exercise and Injuries
Fitn

When one has an injury it doesn’t mean that you cannot do your normal exercise routine it just limits you on what you should do and how often. Many people have chronic pain and injuries, however knowing the difference between pain and soreness and not to push the limit is what everyone should be aware of. The old saying of No Pain No Gain has been out for over twenty years, you know your body better then anyone else and it gives us signals that we need to listen to so if it hurts , Don’t do It, its as simple as that.
One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not allowing an injury to heal or rest. There are many different exercises to do when one has an injury. For exam-ple if you have a knee injury you might not want to do lunges or squats but concentrate more on your upper body. Swimming in a pool is a non impact exercise so after the injury has had time to rest get in that water your knees will thank you for it.
Another good way to stay active when one has injured themselves is to main-tain some sort of stretching regimen. Hire a personal trainer or physical thera-pist, they will be able to assist you and guide you though certain exercises and make sure you are maintaining proper form and executing the exercises prop-erly.
Shoulder pain is also among one of the most common injuries especially with more active older adults. Strengthening an area like your shoulders is very im-portant especially as we age. All our life we have reached, pushed, and pulled
thru our shoulders. Especially women who tend to have a weaker upper body then men need to incorporate strength training to their regimen. Stretching again these type of injuries needs to be apart of ones exer-cise routine.
Prevention of injuries should be a part of your plan when exercising. See your GRFWRU¿UVWZKHQDQLQMXU\RFFXUVDQGthen learn how to avoid this injury ever coming back. You need to listen to your body and workout smart.
Weather your injury is major or minor setback, it shouldn’t prevent you from exercising. Seek a professional’s opinion ¿UVWDQGGR\RXUKRPHZRUNRQKRZWRavoid any further injuries that might keep you from an active lifestyle.

Multi-talented Young Menthe adventures of two brothers and four sports
I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength
Micah (9) and Malik (12)
Meet Micah and Malik Gay, two brothers who pretty much do all things sport. These guys are not just your ordinary young boys who like sports, they love them! So much that they successfully play four sports each!
Football, basketball, baseball and lacrosse.
Their family moved to the East Cobb area about 8 years ago, just after they lost their father to a sudden heart
attack. They were immediately welcomed in to the community and have found a second family in their
school. The boys attend Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, where Malik recently received the “Mighty in Spirit “
DZDUGZKLFKLVJLYHQWRWKHDWKOHWHZKRPRVWH[HPSOL¿HVthe heart of Christ.
These incredible young men have become successful in their sports despite not having their father there as a role
model. They take a lot of inspiration from their older brother Markelle, who is now studying in Boston, as well as their mother, who has made great efforts to get them
where they need to be.In addition to his school honors, Malik was selected to
the Walton Jr. All-Star football team and led the team in tackles. He is spending his summer days playing travel
lacrosse with the LB3 Lacrosse team.Despite being the younger brother, Micah has his share of honors as well. He was the lead scorer on his lax team with 16 goals; the MVP on his basketball team; the lead in-the-park homerun hitter and plays both sides of the
ball as well as special teams for his football team! What a special gift these guys have received through their
faithfulness and dedication. We can expect to see even more accomplishments from them in the near future.

Selling Yourself
Arguably the most important ability to possess is to know how to sell yourself for the rest of your life! It is so important to know your story and have the ability to communicate it with passion! For the rest of your life you will meet strangers that within thirty seconds to three minutes will determine if you are someone they would invite onto their team, into their family or organization, or invest thousands of dollars into.
Developing this skill is invaluable in WKDWRWKHUVZLOOKHDU\RXUFRQ¿GHQFHand if sold, believe in you. If you are not prepared and don’t believe in yourself who will? When a college coach calls (and they will if they know you exist!) and says “tell me about yourself” how prepared will you be to tell a moving, compelling, and captivating story about what you’ve done and how you developed your talents?
A call from (or to!) a college coach is a critical juncture in a recruiting campaign because the old cliché “you never get a second chance to make D¿UVWLPSUHVVLRQV´KROGVWUXHKHUHThe voice on the other end of the line represents, a college degree, $60-$250 dollars, a network of contacts, a future career, a future spouse, invaluable memories, and the next 60-80 years that depend on your ability to sell yourself!
To develop this skill you need to carve out some time to think about who you are and what you’ve done. You also need to practice communicating with members of your family, friends, or teammates. Everyone has value but only if someone that can reward it knows about it.
Be Prepared...Know Your Story
When watching sports on television, there are typically two types of commentators; a black and white commentator and a color commentator. The black and white commentator states what we saw and already know. A color commentator tells us how the individual developed the talent to do what we just saw.
The color commentator is much more interesting the listen to and provides an insight that inspires the viewer.
College coaches want to know what makes you different from all the other prospects. The only way they’ll know is if you tell them. Instead of saying I have a 3.75 GPA when the coach asks you “what is your GPA?” try this; “Well coach thanks for asking. I currently carry a 3.75 GPA however my goal is to graduate with as close to a 4.0 as possible. I plan to take additional AP and Honors courses next year and increase my study time 30 minutes to achieve my goal. I’ll keep you posted as I hit it!” That’s what makes you stand out on a list of prospects a coach plans to call that QLJKW7KHDQVZHURI³´LV¿QHbut if you were a college coach, which SURVSHFWZRXOGLPSUHVV\RXWKH¿UVWone or the second? You need to be a color commentator! You want to move a college coach! Your talent and grades will open the door but your character seals the deal!

Just your ability to sell yourself will separate you from your pack of competition. This skill will prove invaluable when you interview, meet your college roommates, meet your future in-laws, propose to your future spouse, move into a new neighborhood, partake in meetings as well as attending social events. what has transpired in the lives of student-athletes and their parents that we’ve been so blessed to assist.
Two questions that will always help you initiate a conversation are; What’s your opinion about…?” and “What advice would you give me about…?” Coaches will always end a meeting or call by asking; “do you have any questions for me?” The wrong answer is “no” You always need to have a question to show a buying signal. Asking for advice and opinions empowers to listener! It also makes them feel important and you are thus charismatic!
Don’t be afraid to describe the little things you do to develop your talents both academically and athletically. We all want to be surrounded by sharp people that demonstrate the ability to get things done or get to WKH¿QLVKOLQH<RXPXVWGHYHORSthe ability to communicate or “sell yourself” that you are capable by giving examples of how you’ve gotten there in the past!
I encourage you to carve out 15 minutes a day and devout it to you! Just think and write down the amazing things you’ve done and how you developed the ability to do those things. Like sports, if you prepare and are intentional about succeeding you can do the same in any capacity outside of sports! Sold!
