Girlfriends' Getaway Weekend Slated in Cape May
CAPE MAY – The award winning Equity profession-al East Lynne Theater Com-pany is offering a free night of fun for ages 16 and over! If you’re a seasoned per-former, never performed on stage, or a theater lover who wants to fi nd out more about how actors work, join us Fri., March 23 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. for an acting class taught by actor/director/writer, Tom Byrn. His focus for the class will be improvi-sation and the basics of scene work. Although the class is free, reservations are recommended – and wear comfortable clothes. The location is The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St. in Cape May, where East Lynne Theater
Company (ELTC) is in resi-dence.
Tom was in ELTC's pro-duction of "He and She" last summer, receiving an excellent review in "The Wall Street Journal," and was one of the guest teach-ers for ELTC's Student Summer Workshop. Also for ELTC, he performed in “The Dictator” and “The Ransom of Red Chief” adapted by artistic direc-tor, Gayle Stahlhuth. He helped Cape May celebrate its 400th Anniversary by being in “People of Cape May v. Johan van Buren” written by Judge Frank Vis-ser from The Netherlands, and is working on a play, “Historical Spout Offs,” based on editorials from local Cape May newspapers
printed before 1920. ELTC has already had two pub-lic staged readings of the work. Currently, he is in
rehearsal for “A Wrinkle in Time” at The People’s Light and Theatre Company in Malvern, PA. Prior to that

Spring Into Summer With Savings At Morey’s Piers
CAPE MAY - What did people wear before there were jeans and T-shirts? Sat., March 24, kids can find out all about how Victorians dressed and learn about the material, care and style of Victorian
clothing while having a great time with hands-on activities at the third of four Kids Winter Workshops - a new program of crafts and stories sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities
(MAC) and presented by the Friends of the Physick Estate.
Kids will learn about the styles of Victorian cloth-ing for men, women and children, along with how much time it took to keep clothes clean and pressed in the late 1800s. First, at the Carriage House, kids will hear about Victorian dresses, shoes and accesso-ries, along with men's and children's clothing. Then, it's off to the Physick man-sion where children will be able to explore the Vic-torian house museum with the help of guides, and see scrub boards, "sad irons" and sewing machines and see how it took hours for servants to wash and iron clothing in a Victorian household. Back at the Car-riage House, children will have fun trying on clothing from the Victorian era.
The Friends of the Phys-ick Estate will present this fun program especially suit-ed for children aged 7-10, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. Admission is $10; $7 for MAC members. Admission is limited and advance reg-istration required. Please call 609-884-5404 ext. 126 to register or for further information.
The fi nal topic in the se-ries is a program on archi-
tecture. On April 14, kids will fi nd out about Frank Furness, the renowned architect to whom the design of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate is attributed and see the Physick Estate up close.
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profi t organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpre-tation, and cultural enrich-ment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors. MAC member-ship is open to all. For information about MAC's year-round schedule of tours, festivals, and special events call 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278, or visit MAC's Web site at www.capemaymac.org.
