Walk to School Month
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It was so nice meeting many of you at Open House. A fun
time was had by all in spite of the rainy weather. Hopefully
you got a chance to meet your child’s teacher, have a look
around the school, enjoy some BBQ and participate in many
of the fun activities. Many thanks to our School Council
and our staff for all their hard work as well as, to our par-
ents by supporting the event.
We have established our new school council for this year.
We look forward to sharing our ideas with you in the up-
coming months. Please mark your calendar for October
20th when Trevor Brown is coming to speak to parents
about supporting their children with their mathematics.
This is an evening event and one that promises to be both
illuminating and fun for all who participate. Stay tuned for
more information.
Thanks to all those families who have been following the
new SafeArrival program. We are able to quickly identify
issues in our school. For those of you that have not yet had
to use the system please check out page two of this newslet-
ter.
The congestion in the parking lot at morning drop off and
after school pick up continues to create difficulties. If at all
possible we encourage parents to walk their young children
to and from school and older children to walk to and from
school in groups. Walking has proven physical and aca-
demic benefits for your children. Constable Smith will be
here in October to provide Street - Proofing lessons to all
Grade 4 students.
We are accepting donations for the food drive until October 6.
Please consider sending any extra non-perishable items you can
spare.
Sincerely,
Colleen Lowry Ruby Delill

October 19 opportunity to say ‘thanks’
to bus drivers Peel schools will pay tribute to bus drivers on Bus
Driver Appreciation Day on October 19. If your
child rides the bus to school., take this opportunity
to thank the bus driver for his or her contribution
and ask your child to do so too. We all appreciate
the important job bus drivers do each school day
and October 19 provides an opportunity to give
these individuals the recognition they deserve.
October 26 - Celebrate Peel Teaching Assistant and Early Childhood Educators’ Appreciation Day In 2014 the board of trustees declared the last Wednesday in October as the Peel Teaching Assistant and Early Child-hood Educators’ Appreciation Day. This year, the recogni-tion day falls of October 26, 2016. The Peel board appreci-ates the important work of teaching assistants and ECEs, and the contributions that they make in the lives of chil-dren, families and community members.
Halloween In Britain and Ireland in the Middle Ages there existed the prac-tice of “souling” . This practice involved poor folk going door to door, receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day. Today children go Trick-or-Treating, house to house in costumes asking for treats such as candy. Halloween is an exciting tradition at Edenbrook Hill. Many staff ands students come to school dressed in cos-tume. Costumes are not required. Your child may choose to dress in orange and black, or they may choose to come dressed as they normally would. Regardless of whether your child chooses to participate in Halloween events or not, all members of the school community are expected to be respectful of oth-ers, themselves and the school environment. Costumes should be easy for student to move around the school in. Students should leave any props (guns, whips, swords etc.) at home as they are not appropriate in a school environment.

Help protect students
with severe allergies
by keeping lunches,
snacks peanut-free
Anaphylaxis is a potentially life
-threatening allergic reaction
that affects some children. We
ask that you help us take care
of these students by sending
lunches and snacks for your
child that are free from pea-
nuts or nuts, because these
foods are the leading cause of
anaphylaxis.
Please read the label of any
food you plan to send to school
with your child. If the label
says, "May contain nuts or pea-
nuts," please do not send it to
school.
You can get a
complete copy
of the Peel
board's anaphy-
laxis guideline
from the school
office.
