Greetings!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah,
Happy Kwanzaa. Whatever you say or celebrate at
this time of year, may you have an enjoyable holiday.
There’s a lot going on in this crazy world of ours.
However, in our neck of the woods we are doing won-
derful work within our Club. We are consistently mak-
ing a difference in people’s lives. You may not think a
smile or a small chat with someone while you’re deliv-
ering Meals on Wheels would make a difference, but it
does!!
Wow, you ladies never cease to amaze me by your
generosity - helping to continue our ongoing projects
in Arts and Crafts; bringing in shoes for our
Soles4Souls; bringing in a pair of glasses for our In-
ternational Outreach project. All of these things add
up and really makes a difference.
What will the New Year bring?? I’m hoping more kind-
ness and generosity. May you all enjoy your holiday
season, and maybe make a New Year’s resolution to
be more involved in our Club. Find your niche. That’s
always a great way to make new friends and enjoy
each other’s company while helping us all do the good
work we do.
I personally wish each and every one of you a joyous Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!!

Remember
Your Angel
In November many of us chose our
“angels” for the children’s gifts.
December 19th is the day we bring in our wrapped
Christmas gifts of clothing for the children of Wimauma.
Please makes sure the “angel” is taped securely to the
gift and that the child’s name is visible.

PROGRAM
The SCC Men’s Chorus
will entertain us with

FROM THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Submitted by Jan Heuman, Chairperson
This is just a reminder that the Education Committee is still col-
lecting children's books. We use them to fill the Little Free Li-
braries in Wimauma, and the tutors and readers of Hope Fund
use them with the children.
The Education committee appreciates your help with this as
well as the Pennies for Books, which totaled over $80 last
month. Let’s keep up the good work!

Notice Re: Birthday Lunch
There will not be a Birthday Lunch for
December as the date falls on Christmas Eve.
We will resume our celebrations in January.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.
and Happy New Year!

Birthday Lunch Coordinator
Humans Have a Plastic Problem Submitted by Patsie Ginley, Conservation Chairperson
This will be the first in a series of strategies to get
plastic out of your life.
Soda bottles, sandwich bags, straws - they fill the
world’s pantries, oceans and landfills. And unlike
organic material, they don’t decompose. There are
more than 6.3 billion tons of plastic waste out
there, endangering wildlife, waterways, and our
own health. And, no, recycling is not the only solu-
tion – just 14% of plastic is collected for reuse.
Strategy #1. Carry reus-
able shopping bags.
Use a canvas tote, back-
pack, messenger bag…
whatever works! Chico-
Bags are popular be-
cause they stuff into their
own attached stuff sack
and are easy to remem-
ber. Reuse produce bags and mesh bags that or-
anges and onions come in.
Strategy #2. Give up bottled water. Tremen-
dous resources are used to extract, bottle, and
ship it. Many brands of bottled water are simply
filtered tap water. Get a reusable stainless steel
bottle or travel mug, fill it with tap water before
leaving the house, and refill it at water fountains.
Buy a sparkling water maker to make your own.
Strategy #3. Buy from bulk bins. Some grocery
stores sell unpackaged food in bulk bins. Bring
your own reusable cloth bags, containers, or jars
to the store to avoid taking new plastic bags. Have
your empty containers weighed when you first ar-
rive, so cashier can deduct the weight of the con-
tainer when you check out. You can use your own
containers for meats, cheeses, and prepared
foods in many stores.
A NOTE OF GRATITUDE
As we celebrate the Holidays,
please remember our friends and
neighbors who need a little help
with a hot meal and a kind word.
We appreciate everyone that
signed up to deliver for Meals on
Wheels in December .
Giving of your time is the greatest
gift of all.
Thank you from the bottom of our
hearts!

Susan Royal and
Virginia Kimball

Remember What We Collect?
The Conservation Committee collects recycla-
bles at every monthly meeting. Our newest col-
lection has been for Soles4Souls. We have col-
lected over 200 pairs of shoes so far. We are
looking for new and gently worn shoes (please
secure with string or heavy rubber band). Men’s
and children’s shoes are needed, too.
In addition, the following items are always ap-
preciated: greeting card fronts, buttons (the
larger the better—for crafts), Box Tops for Edu-
cation, can tabs, elementary-age appropriate
new or gently used books for the Little Free Li-
brary in Wimauma, and coupons, but please
note we are now collecting ONLY FOOD cou-
pons.
Currently, we are no longer collecting maga-
zines, corks, or stamps. In addition, plastic bags
can be recycled at most grocery stores, and
Publix has a container for Styrofoam.
