This is my electronic portfolio. I hope that from seeing this one can see all that I experienced during my semester in the Saint Gianna Catholic Health Academy. It will go over Orientation Week, Rotation Blogs, Thank You Letters, Hand-Washing Presentations, Mentor Forms, Resume, Career List & Paper, Summaries of Lectures, and various other projects completed during the semester.
Saint Gianna Catholic Health Academy consists of 25 catholic high school students from Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Bishop Carroll.
The Health Academy is centered at Via Christi St.
Francis Campus. The students are chosen in part to their healthcare
career interest for either an entry level positions or
professional medical degrees. Students could
have previous experience in healthcare, ability to commit to the program
with an ability to communicate at a mature
level.
Orientation Week began on August 19 and lasted until August 27. During this week, the Health Academy students had TB tests, hospital orientation, and the first class of Medical Terminology. We began hand-washing presentations and received badges. Tours of the Via Christi St. Francis Campus and St. Joseph Campus were given by Kim Frangenberger.

During this semester in the Health Academy the class was divided into groups to come up with skits to show children why it is important to wash their hands and when and how they should do it. As a class we went to various grade schools in Wichita and gave the skits to third graders and younger. During the skits we showed the children the germs that were on their hands with a black light. When finished with the skit we would talk some with the children and see if they had questions or answers to questions that we had for them. After this we would pass out toothbrushes, soap, and coloring pages for the children to take home. It was a great experience for the children and it was a great experience for our class in a whole. We had to be able to relate with the children as one in healthcare would have to with a patient to be able to help them and teach them the importance of such little things.

FINAL REFLECTION The St. Gianna Catholic
Health Academy was a great experience. I really enjoyed the semester that I spent taking this class. It was
hard to fit in my schedule, but I am very glad to have
taken this class. The rotations were interesting
and the experience was unforgettable.
